“Ensuring Quality and Diversity in Police Recruitment and Retention: A Comprehensive Analysis of Hiring Standards and Strategies”

The last two decades have seen an increase in the concern with establishing minimum entry-level requirements for police officers. Virtually all potential recruits face a battery of tests no matter where they live in the United States, which must be successfully completed before becoming police officers. In addition, applicants must typically face an oral board of examiners. For this assignment, use the California POST hiring standards from post.ca.gov or research the standards in your state if you choose. Prepare a written report in which you include the following: 
Describe in detail the process an individual must go through to be hired as a police officer. 
Explain whether you feel this is adequate. 
Recommend methods for police agencies to recruit people to become police officers. 
Explain specific techniques to recruit people of color and women applicants who may not traditionally apply at the same rate. Assess ways police departments can retain the good people they have. 
Summarize how you would incentivize the work for your senior people to keep them from leaving the profession. 
Provide examples to illustrate your findings and thoughts.
