“The Pros and Cons of Self-Driving Vehicles: An Analysis of Their Impact on Drivers, Communities, and the Automotive Industry”

In September 2023 U.S. News & World Report came out with a list of ten vehicles that were almost self-driving. From the Tesla Model S that includes a summons feature that brings the car from its parking spot to a location determined by the driver to the Ford F-150 that allows a driver to take their hands off the wheel; various models of self-driving vehicles are on the road. Take a moment to skim through the sample articles and op-ed essays, then write your own essay in response to one of the following prompts:
Option 1- Are you in support of, or against the use of self-driving vehicles on the road? Why or why not?
OR
Option 2- Write an essay in which you support a claim that either 1.) self-driving vehicles are beneficial to drivers, the community or the automotive industry or 2.) self-driving vehicles are not beneficial to drivers, the community, or the automotive industry.
Your essay should take a position on the issue, and argue that position, drawing upon appropriate source materials for support.
Requirements:
1. Minimum length: 600 words
2. An original title
3. Minimum of 5 paragraphs, all of which are approximately the same length
4. A clear and specific thesis statement in which your argument is stated
5. Clear and specific details which demonstrate and prove the thesis statement
6. 3rd person only; no 1st person (I, me, my, we, us, our) or 2nd person (you)
7. 3 internal citations, can be a combination of quotes, paraphrase or summary; ***NO MORE THAN 3 DIRECT QUOTES
8. At least 2 sources must be cited within the paper
9. Works Cited page-those sources used in the essay must be documented on a separate Works Cited page
The exam will be scored as follows:
25% thesis and clear/convincing argument
25% development/organization
25% citations
25% grammar/mechanics/style
