The graduation speech is an opportunity to reflect on the past and imagine the future in a positive light. Envision yourself graduating and being chosen by your classmates to give this speech. Consider why you might be selected, and focus on what it means to reach this marker in your own life. Offer courage and confidence to others. You should have a message or central idea. Don’t just spew words –decide what you think is the most important thing for your audience to leave your speech with; think about both what has happened in the past and what you hope will happen in the future. If you choose to reminisce about your high school experience in your speech, make sure you don’t focus too much on yourself. Remember, you have an audience that needs to engage with your speech, so if you are talking about your memories, find a way to make those memories relevant to others in the audience too.
