Title: “Medical Advancements and Challenges in 1960s Kentucky: A Contextual Analysis of the Journal of the Kentucky State Medical Association” Thesis Statement: The Journal of the Kentucky State Medical Association, published in March 1964

Your essay will contextualize your primary source, analyze its contents, and develop a central argument about what it can teach us about the time and place that produced it.
You will write a 4-5 page (double spaced, 12-point font, 1-inch margins on all sides) paper focused on your chosen primary source. Your paper must:
Answer the basic primary source questions for your source as fully as possible (What is the source? Genre of source? When and where is it from? Who created it? For what audience/for what purpose?)
Provide as much precise background on your source as possible
Provide historical context for your source
Present a central argument about your source that is introduced in a thesis statement in the paper’s intro and developed over the course of the paper
Your central argument must respond to this question: What can your source tell us about medicine in the time and place that produced it?
You are encouraged to do outside research on your primary source. When drawing on outside secondary sources, you must do the following:
Use at least 2 high-quality secondary sources that rate well on the CRAAP test
Cite all sources you draw on in the text using MLA-style citations
Include a Works Cited at the end of your paper listing all sources you have used
