This journal entry is for me to better understand student response to the novel To Kill A Mockingbird. This novel is considered a “classic”, and therefore, it is often read in school curriculums, despite being controversial. I would like you to write a journal entry below in which you reflect on the following topics:
Did you like the novel? Why or why not?
Did you understand the novel? Why or why not?
Did the use of the racial slur make you uncomfortable or hurt your feelings? Why or why not? (Of course it makes us all uncomfortable, I’m looking for whether it made you VERY uncomfortable to the point where you didn’t want to read the novel)
Do you feel this novel was worthwhile as a part of the curriculum this year? Did it make you reflect on anything?
Would you recommend this book to someone? Why or why not?
Write this in the paragraph form as a journal entry– not simply a list of answers to the question.
Your response must be 350 words minimum.
