“Addressing Substance Use Disorder Among Veterans: A Call to Action”

Infographic tools serve as an effective way to present complex data in a visual format that is compelling, provides rapidly available information, and is directly useful for decision-making purposes. Identify and select a health issue/problem from any of the class discussions, required class readings, or listed websites at the end of the syllabus. Create a one-page infographic based on your selected health issue/problem. Successful completion of this assignment will indicate that the student is succinctly able to identify a health problem/issue, identify the cause, and advocate for change or improvement. The health problem should be of interest to the student and should benefit a specific population. It is crucial that the infographic be concise and creative. A reference sheet should be submitted as a separate page. 
The Issue chosen for this paper is Substance Use Disorder among Veterans- 5 slides total
4 slides with bulleted points to answer questions and support data
1 slide to contain 2 graphs- 1 supporting the data of a rise of substance use disorder and  1 in support of whatever is chosen to address it and the efficacy of the suggestion
What are the implications of the issue (include the specific population impacted)? Remember to highlight any systemic forces.
·       Clearly identify the issue. Also specify who is the audience. List the audience specifically on the infographic.
Identify data and trends to support your findings. Select data and pictorial representation carefully.
Who is responsible or what has caused the problem?
What can be done to address the issue, including any evidence-based policy recommendations?
Each student will prepare a 5-minute powerpoint presentation for their Infographic to be presented 
The presentation should include the following points:
·       Summary of the issue you selected and your plan to address it
·       Discussion of one current local or national program that has attempted to address the issue and discuss the efficacy of the program and whether or not social work/social workers are (or have been) involved in the program
·       Who is your audience for the infographic and what is your plan for maximum exposure and potential for change?
·       Graphs, data, visuals to support the issue and address the issue

Issue/Topic/Audience
Is the topic or issue clear? Is the audience specified? There should be clarity around the purpose or goal of this topic. 
What is the problem?
Provide a clear argument for the impact of this issue on a particular group. Use at least 4 facts to support a consistent story which helps describe the magnitude of the problem. Highlighted numbers, graphs or tables are necessary. 
SO WHAT? Why does this problem matter?
Systemic forces are highlighted. Has the issue been examined from a lens of power and oppression?  Social math is used to contextualize the cost or larger implication of the problem on society. The choice of wordsused is thoughtful and supports a deeper understanding of the issue. (
Now What? Solutions. What can be done about the problem?
Multiple solutions are contextualized and situated in literature. Solutions are aimed at multiple levels (micro, mezzo & macro) and inspire action. Recommendations are specific.  
Graphics & Visualizations
Details support the main idea without detracting. Color, shape, size and arrangement of graphics contribute to the meaning and message. Easy to understand. Layout is neat and clear. The takeaway of each table or graph is stated. Graphics chosen highlight key data-points or contribute meaning to the infographic.  
Presentation
Summary of issue selected and plan to address it. Discussion of program that has attempted to address the issue, Discussion of the efficacy of the program found.
