“Designing for Social Justice in Education: Exploring Hot Button Issues and Potential Solutions through Interviews and Research” Introduction In recent years, issues of social justice and injustice have become increasingly prevalent in the field of education. From disparities in resources and opportunities

For your final paper in this class, students will identify an issue of social justice/injustice, a current “hot button” issue or policy impacting education. Students will conduct research on the background and context of the chosen issue, analyze the broader systemic view (e.g., national, state, and /or local), interview 3 individuals (including multiple perspectives from different constituencies) and discuss possible solutions for change (drawing on the Design Justice Principles and students/communities’ Funds of Knowledge). Pulling in research and interests from prior assignments is welcomed and encouraged. The paper should be no more than 4 pages—what is important is that you cover each of the required sections in the rubric.
