“Implementing Evidence-Based Practice: A Change Management Approach”

Oral component
Summary
The oral component involves presenting a 10-minute case as though to a professional team to convince them of the need to change practice and how you will do this. This builds on the question and
evidence located and appraised in your written component.
Presentation
You should prepare a presentation which you could give to a professional team about the problem you have identified in practice, the evidence you have found and appraised and then how you plan
to implement this evidence. No questions will be asked during or at the end of the presentation – so you should ensure that you convey as much detail as possible within the 10-minute time frame.
Suggested content.
Briefly describe the context (the environment where you may/may not implement this evidence and the issue you are trying to address).
Briefly describe the paper which you are going to use for evidence, the results of the paper, why this one and the quality of the evidence (no more than one minute).
Briefly describe how the results of this are paper similar to others in this field (ie is there a body of evidence drawing similar conclusions). If not – have you provided a strong justification earlier?
The main focus of your presentation should be based on theory (about 7 minutes) covering:
The changes you are recommending as a result of this evidence.
How will you make these changes?
An overview of the barriers you are expecting – include general barriers to implementing evidence-based practice as well as barriers in the particular context?
An explanation of how you plan to overcome these barriers.
You should also prepare and provide a ONE-page hand out to support your presentation – the format is your choice, this may be powerpoint or a summary and should INCLUDE ON THE SAME PAGE
supporting references (eg relevant theories of change, barriers etc)
So I is really important in this to note, you are not really focussing the presentation on the chosen paper and how you found it but rather how you will influence change in practice linking to change management theory.
