This is a Literature Review, and is to provide an overview of the answers that exist in the research to a a given question.
The question and context given for this assignment is: You are asked to write a literature review on the impact of family dynamics during childhood on perpetration of crime during adolescence. In 1000 words or less, discuss the relationship between parental incarceration and adolescent crime.
Think about the factors that play a role in the relationship by working out the ‘how’ and ‘why’. For example, why would parental incarceration be related to adolescent crime? Try to come up with 2-3 factors.
Work out which advanced relationship the factors are. For example, access to additional resources might be a likely moderating factor in the relationship between parental incarceration and adolescent crime. Such that, if the adolescent has access to additional resources they might be less likely to commit crime. On the other hand, if the adolescent does not have access to additional resources, they might be more likely to commit crime.
As a Literature Review, the goal is to provide an overview of the answers that exist in the research to the given question, provide a meaningful synthesis of the information for the reader.
Give some evaluation of what we do or dont know from the research, including some evaluation of the research (ie limitations) – not of individual studies, but the combined body of research as a whole.
Overall: Write a good general essay discussing the relationship between parental incarceration and adolescent crime. With a paragraph discussing the research (limits etc). Try to identify some factors that can impact on the relationship. If possible please try to explore at least one of the more advanced relationships as discussed above.
