Using research and analysis of your chosen horror film, “Scream”, you will develop an argument that establishes a central meaning of your monster or film as it relates to some societal anxiety. Using research and analytical skills, you will write an argumentative essay where you take your chosen horror film and analyze it, then connect the film to societal anxiety. Questions to consider in your essay include: How is this anxiety referenced in the film through the monster metaphor? What aspects of the film’s production and conception imply this? How does your film add to that conversation if it deals with similar themes as other movies in the genre? What was the public’s reaction to the film? What have other writers or critics written on the film that either aligns with your analysis or refutes it? Was the connection to societal anxiety implied from the conception of the film, or has the meaning been attached to the film by the viewers and critics over the years?
