Title: Cognitive Dissonance: A Personal Experience and Real-World Example

Part one:
This thought share is about cognitive dissonance.  For this thought share please do the following:
1) Describe something you feel dissonant about or in the past were dissonant about. Dissonance, as we’ll learn in this chapter, is the “discomfort that is caused when two cognitions conflict, or when our behavior conflicts with our attitudes.”
2) Specify what conflicts with what. (Note: This requires a precise answer.  In the past students have been too general and received a point deduction.)
This entire post will probably take 2-4 sentences.
Part two:
1) For this chapter pick one of the following concepts (1 point):
cognitive dissonance
[Hmmmm…..that’s odd there is only one choice…..well that fits with the chapter being all about cognitive dissonance]
2) Write the definition from the textbook for this concept. (1 point)  You can copy the definition.
3) Describe a situation from around the world (i.e., news, current events, movies, social media etc.) that relates to the concept.  For this part you’re not talking about the concept iteslf, you are just giving me the background information so I know what’s happening.  The length of this will vary greatly and depending on how long it takes for you to describe the situation.  (2 points)
4) Write how this situation illustrates the concept you picked.  This needs to be in enough detail so that I know you understand and can apply the concept.  For this chapter, you will want to include language relating to the process within cognitive dissonance that you think is occurring in your example.  It should be one of the following:
postdecision dissonance,
justification of effort,
external justification,
internal justification,
insufficient punishment,
hypocrisy paradigm,
self-affirmation theory, or
self-evaluation maintenance theory.
If it doesn’t fit one of these, I’d think of a different example.  This will probably take around 100 words.
Please number the answer, so i can know which will go with. NO OUTSIDE SOURCES, JUST
THE TEXTBOOK.
