Title: “Peripheral Arterial Disease in a Patient with Hyperlipidemia and Diabetes Mellitus” The artery that is likely affected in this case is the popliteal artery, which runs behind the knee and is responsible for supplying blood

In a 300-500 word paper, analyze the following case study
and respond to the questions below. Remember to use accurate anatomical terms
in your response.
J.S. is a 55-year-old man who is referred to the vascular
surgeon’s office for right calf pain that starts when he begins to walk fast or
exercise and is relieved by rest. The lower leg becomes pale. On physical
examination, the pulses of the dorsum of the foot (dorsalis pedis) and the
posterior tibialis are very diminished. The surgeon mentioned that this was a
case of intermittent claudication secondary to peripheral arterial disease
(PAD). The physician believes the partially blocked artery must be just behind
the knee. The patient has a history of hyperlipidemia and type 1 diabetes
mellitus.
According to your knowledge of the vascular system, what is the name
of that artery?
What are the branches of that artery?
Based on your knowledge of physiology, why does the pain increase
with exercise?
Are hyperlipidemia and diabetes mellitus related to peripheral
artery disease? Why?
