Write an analytical essay of about 600-700 words that analyses and interprets Ray Bradbury’s short story “Lawns of Summer” (attached). The essay must include the five elements below. Remember to make references to the text if you quote directly: “bla bla bla bla” (p. 14, ll. 2-4)
1. Write a paragraph that introduces the overall theme of the story (what can you say generally about the type of situation that it deals with?). Furthermore, this introduction should connect the theme to the story. You must also present the story formally with title and writer. Remember that a short story title should appear in quotation marks.
2. Write a paragraph that characterizes the grandfather. Find inspiration in the toolbox in the back of your textbook, page 244, where it says “How to read a short story”.
3. Write another paragraph that characterizes Tom.
4. Write a third paragraph where you focus on an element of your choice (elements that you also find in the toolbox), e.g. setting, language, style, title, narration, structure, composition, mood, tone etc. Again, find inspiration in the toolbox.
5. Put the relationship between Tom and his grandfather into perspective with an experience from EITHER your personal life OR what you have heard or read about similar relationships (for example Peter Parker’s relationship with his uncle Ben in Spider-Man). Here, you shoujld also return to the theme(s) of the short story and make a conclusion to your essay.
Tips:
Do not use subheadings
Instead, begin each paragraph with a topic sentence, which tells the reader what the paragraph should be about.
Proofread focusing on the feedback you received on the last essay
