Patient Scenario
Ronald is a 48 year old male, states he rarely visits the doctor due to his hectic life and tight schedules. Has not had a physical or any medical contact for longer than he is willing to admit. On Ronald’s initial vital signs he had a blood pressure of 156/96, pulse of 102 blood oxygen of 94, hieght 5’10” and weighed 252lbs. Upon completion of the Lifestyle/Hitsory questionnaire Ronald revealed that he has been a pack a day smoker for the past 20 years and his mother was a diabetic. A finger stick was performed blood sugar of 300. Patient states im getting old er and “I need to start to take better care of my self and I will”.
More than 30 million people in the United states have diabetes and its the seventh leading cause of death.1 Healthy people 2030 focuses on reducing diabetes cases, complication and death Some racial/ethnic minorities are more likely to have diabetes. Many people with diabetes don’t know they have it.
