Broken Window policing believes that disorder and crime are sufficiently linked to require a law and order approach to minor crimes in order to decrease the likelihood of more serious crimes. Many have criticized this form of policing is having a disproportionate impact on racial and ethnic minorities and the homeless. Using the examples from the readings – the transit police, no right to rest for the homeless, and powder v. crack cocaine – describe the results on this form of policing and the better approaches recommended by the authors in each instance.
