“Unleashing the Power of Beauty: A Rhetorical Analysis of Sephora’s ‘Beauty Insider’ Advertisement”

For this assignment, please rhetorically analyze one advertisement of your choosing. You CANNOT use an advertisement or a company we have already done in class together. Otherwise, you have the option to analyze a print ad, a post, a video, a commercial, etc.
In your rhetorical analysis, it would be helpful to consider the author’s purpose, target audience, tone, and stance before considering some of the rhetorical devices/appeals we have discussed in class. Be thoughtful on the number of rhetorical devices you want to analyze in order to formulate your argument. Please keep in mind any of the devices we have discussed in class or anything you have read in our class readings.
Your essay is analytical, evaluative, and argumentative, meaning you look at what the authors are saying, you talk about whether their article/video is logical or not (and how), and you have a stance on your analysis. Your thesis (and stance) are not your own view on the ad/product; your thesis is your argument on how this author/company made their argument concerning the product/service. Additionally, your essay should have a structure that makes it easy for your reader to understand your argument and follow your thoughts. You should use a standard structure, such as: Introduction + Claim, Body Paragraphs, and Conclusion.
Your paper must be minimum 500 words and must follow the MLA Guidelines: double-spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman, one-inch margins, with the appropriate header. The rubric for this assignment is on the back of this page and clearly explains how I will be grading your work. Again, I significantly mark down your grade if you are under the page requirement
( I started by using an advertisement by Sephora but you can use whatever advertisement you like, just not any ad by
Apple.
