As part of this course, you will develop a training program for an organization or group. If possible, you should select a project that relates to something in which you are already involved (job, volunteerism, etc.), so your project can be anchored in an applied setting. However, that may not be possible in all situations. Normally, a needs assessment should be conducted to determine the best course of action. That isn’t particularly feasible within the time frame of this course, so we will assume a needs assessment has been conducted and proceed to development of the training.
The project proposal is 400-600 words, explaining the training you are proposing. First, provide an executive summary describing the need for the training and the organization or group. Then, include the following areas (see Chapter 5 Introduction):
Objectives
What are the goals for learning?
What should the learner be able to do better as a result of completing your program?
Content
What is being learned?
What level of proficiency should a learner reach?
Activities
How are learners learning?
What kinds of activities will they engage in to learn the content better?
Materials and resources
With what are learners learning?
Are books, videos, or other materials required?
Grouping
With whom are learners learning?
Are they learning alone or with others?
Location
Where are learners learning?
Is the training online or in-person? If online, is it synchronous or asynchronous?
Time
When are learners learning?
How long is the program?
Instructor/Trainer role
How is the instructor facilitating/guiding learning?
What do you expect the instructor to do (e.g. providing feedback, providing instruction, providing coaching)?
Assessment
How is learning progress being assessed?
How will you know the program is effective?
Remember that this is a proposal, so these descriptions are only preliminary at this point. This information can and should change as you continue to develop your project. Provide a narrative description for each of the nine areas. Please include the headings for each area, but do not include the questions provided above in your submission.
