A solid understanding of the performance and results of decisions drives an organization in specific directions, which may help to meet strategic goals. This is typically a more rational action since financial performance, quality improvement, and other essential functions are routinely overseen.
Progressive and transformative organizations are inclusive and collaborative and illicit the input of the workplace community. In some cases, small groups are established to work in teams, build consensus and provide recommendations to decision-makers. Consider the employees in this week’s work. How easy is it for employees to speak up and give improvement ideas or complaints that ultimately would enhance the organization if addressed by leaders?

Does the team foster a group-think approach, or is there an environment that supports openness, input, and consideration of other options? Anyone participating in a project with assigned group members can most likely relate to personalities conflicts. When a group can effectively brainstorm and collaborate, positive outcomes can emerge. This is the type of decision-making that organizations thrive on and emerge more successful. Implementing effective team brainstorming and group decision-making activities boosts the organization forward in reaching missions and goals.
Successful companies include those that take an inclusive approach to making decisions by warding off groupthink. There has been a shift from a top-down approach to a center-out approach. When companies embrace collaboration, employees are more likely to be committed to the vision and mission of an organization, as well as its overall success.
