1. Analyze the reasons for the success of the Nazi Party? Why does it succeed?
2. Formulate an explanation for the decreasing number of democratic governments in Europe during this period?
3. Respond to this discussion: After the conclusion of World War I, many countries were drastically changed by the outcome of the war. Specially The Treaty of Versailles helped the rise of fascism and the decrease of democracy within Europe. The treaty put the fault of the war completely on Germany’s shoulders and put extreme economic hardship on the people of Germany. This steeled the hearts of the people and gave rise to an even more aggressive version of nationalism within the country. (The Treaty of Versailles, 2024)
Fascism is an extreme form of nationalism that also promotes an economic system that reduces the difference in class among the people. The reason fascism grew at such a heavy pass is from the economic downturn that was the result of World War I. (The Rise of Fascism, 2024) Even before the war nations in Europe were already developing a common ideology of nationalism among the people. This was because of the militarism that was one of the causes of World War I. The economic hardship as well as the resentment caused by The Treaty of Versailles gave the fascist moment the foothold it needed to rise in the new political landscape post World War I.
4. Respond to this: An example for the decreasing number of democratic governments in the European during this period would be the Great Depression. It was a serve world wide economic depression during the early 1900s. The timing of the Great Depression varied across nation. It was the longest, deepest, and the most widespread dispersion of the 20th century. In the 21st century, the Great Depression is commonly used as an example of how far the world’s economic can decline. The Great Depression had a devastating effect in the countries being rich or poor. The tax revenue, profits and prices dropped while international trade plunged by more than 50%. Unemployment in the U.S rose to 25% and some countries as high as 30%.
