Minimum of 1 scholarly source (in addition to the textbook)
Initial Post Instructions
Select the work THE GREAT WAVE painted by Hokusai in our textbook, and write a response that analyzes the art through the lens of a descriptive critic, an interpretive critic, and an evaluative critic. What different things would these critics have to say? Use the following guidelines:
Descriptive Critic: Address at least 3 different elements of art and/or principles of design.
Interpretive Critic: This will require research so that you can understand the subject, meaning, and intent of the work.
Evaluative Critic: Use the standards of perfection, insight, and inexhaustibility (as described in the text).
Excerpt from class textbook:
“Ink and Mixed Media: The great Japanese artist Hokusai was prominent in the first half of the nineteenth century in the medium of woodcuts, using ink for his color. The process is extremely complex, but he dominated in the Edo period, when many artists produced brilliantly colored prints that began to be seen in Europe. French painters in particular found great inspiration in the brilliance of the work. The Great Wave, Hokusai’s most famous work (Figure 4-6), is from his project Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji. Here the mountain is tiny in comparison with the roiling waves threatening even smaller figures in two boats. The power of nature is the subject matter, and the respect for nature may be part of its content” (Jacobus & Martin, 2022, p. 63).

“The Right to Choose: A Philosophical Analysis of Abortion” Introduction Abortion has long been a contentious issue in the realm of applied ethics. It raises questions about the rights of women, the moral status of the fetus, and the role
Official Paper Instructions: For your final, you will write a philosophical paper (4-6 pages) that presents a topic from the applied ethics section of the course excluding freedom of speech, two perspectives on this topic from class readings, and then your unique contribution to the debate. You could argue that position A is right and position B is wrong, or B is right and A is wrong, or that both are partially right and complementary, or that neither are right. You could also refine a position, i.e., argue that position A is right, but for different reasons, or you could give a stronger argument as to why A is right.
My Comments: I want my paper to argue that abortion should be the woman’s choice. I’m attaching the two presentations from my class that are “position a” and “position b” Don’t cite anything but use those as a starting point for your own analysis as to why abortion is not wrong. You can make it 5/6 pages, double spaced, times new roman size 12. Thank you so much 🙂 -

Title: Sustainable Agriculture in my Local Community: A Plan for a 500-Acre Food Production Operation
To prepare for your assignment,
Try to find information as close to where you live as possible. If you cannot find information within a 50-mile radius of where you live, then try searching the closest large city, or within your county.
Identify the predominant soil type(s) in your area. You can reference the ecoregion information from the Week 1 lab follow-up assignment.
Identify the weather and climate conditions of your area.
Research what types of agriculture, if any, are currently being practiced in your area. Now, you are ready to draft a paper about soil and sustainable agriculture where you live, and your own plan for a 500-acre sustainable food production operation. In your essay,
Describe the general area where you live (local community, county, etc.) by addressing the following:
What are the characteristics of the soil?
What is the composition (sand, silt, clay)?
How well does it retain water?
How fertile is the soil generally?
What are the seasons like?
How much precipitation (rain and snow) do you get annually, and how is it distributed throughout the year?
Discuss agricultural production in your community:
What crops are being grown?
What production methods are being used?
Is irrigation necessary?
Are there any greenhouses or other indoor food production operations in your area?
Are there any organic or other sustainable agriculture operations within 50 or 100 miles of your location?
Create a plan, based on the conditions in your area, for a sustainable food production operation that addresses the following questions:
How will you divide up the 500 acres between at least four different sustainable food production methods?
Why is each method suitable to your local area and conditions?
Which foods will you produce and what methods will you utilize for each one? You should conduct research on sustainable food production systems, and you can also use information from the Week 2 Properties of Soil and Sustainable Agriculture Laboratory.
must use at least one scholarly source, one credible source, and the course text, for three sources

“Exploring the Relationship Between Disability and Human Dignity: An Ethical Analysis” Introduction: Disability is a complex and multifaceted concept that has been subject to much debate and discussion. It is often defined as a physical or mental Title: The Importance of Critical Thinking in Decision Making: An Argument for its Inclusion in Education
Disability and Human Dignity
Research Paper Assignment
Purpose:
The
goal of this assignment is to allow you to learn more about a topic which
interests you and relates to disability.
The paper will also allow you to develop your research skills and your
ability to make an argument for a thesis.
Basic
Criteria: Your paper should be between 5-6 pages
double spaced in a standard 12 pt font.
It should be focused on a topic which relates to disability, and
it should include an argument for a thesis about the topic. Your paper should include at least three
outside sources about your topic.
(Class readings do not count as outside sources, but they may be used in
your paper.) You should consider
potential objections to your thesis and respond to them.
Topic
Guidelines: Given that
disability studies is a broad field, there is a wide range of topics that you
could choose for this paper. Here are
some general descriptions of topics and approaches you may choose:
1. Explain one of the
philosophical debates about the nature of disability (e.g. whether
disability is a mere difference) or one of the debates about the best way to
model disability (e.g. social model vs. medical model). Provide an argument either for or against one
of the positions advanced in the debate you choose.
2.
Explain
an ethical issue that impacts people with disabilities today (or may impact
them in the near future) and argue for or against a position on the issue you
choose (e.g. argue for against the permissibility of selective abortion,
physician assisted suicide, the Ashley treatment, genetic engineering to avoid
disabilities, rationing of medical care).
If you choose a topic in this area, you should consider applying one of
the philosophical ethical theories we learned in the course to support your
argument.
3. Explain
an ethical issue that impacted people with disabilities in past (e.g.
forced sterilization, institutionalization).
Use one of the ethical theories from the course to analyze the morality
of the past treatments of those with disabilities, i.e. say whether the
treatment was moral or immoral and why).
4.
Explain
a debate about the nature of human dignity and the criteria for possessing
human dignity (e.g. whether the ability to actively think and
communicate is necessary for dignity).
Argue for or against one of the views advanced in the debate.
5.
Defend
a view about what duties society (or specific societal institutions such as
businesses, schools, religious groups) has to those with disabilities. Use one of the ethical theories covered in
the course to support the view you defend.
6.
You
may also choose to research and write about one of these topics:
o
What
is the nature of human happiness (or a good life) and how does having a
disability impact a person’s ability to achieve happiness (or a good life)? (For this topic, it would be good to research
and explain a philosophical theory about human happiness.)
o
Why
does God allow disabilities? Is there a
greater good that comes from disabilities?
o
Can
people with profound disabilities know God and have a relationship with God?
Stylistic Guidelines
1. Your paper should
have a title.
2. Papers should be
double-spaced with normal margins and written in a standard 12 pt. font.
The length should be 5-6 pages.
3. You should provide
a citation (i.e. a footnote, endnote or parenthetical citation) whenever you are using an idea from a source and
of course, whenever you are quoting from a source.
4. There should be a
bibliography with full references for any source you used in your paper or research.
References and/or bibliography should be done consistently according to
a standard manual of
style. You may choose the citation style
that you use (e.g. APA, Chicago), but please use the chosen style
consistently and correctly.
