  • Title: “Policing Sexuality: Understanding the Interplay between State and Private Control”

Our final unit explored sexuality and the state; or, specifically, how sex and sexuality are discussed and policed both at the state and private level. For this final unit paper, I would like for you to venture an original argument that demonstrates your own understanding of how sex and sexuality are policed and/or negotiated, using the materials from Unit III. once those words are out in social space, there are reactions to those evocations like censorship, violence, and legislation, but there is also acceptance, world-making, and community building. I am looking for you to make sense and make connections between and among the articles that we read for the final unit. What do they all mean, together?
We covered topics such as obscenity, scholarship and dirty work, policing sexuality, sexuality and state violence (like Guild Press and Womack), and social policing. What do these all mean together? What do they all demonstrate about Critical Sexuality, both past and present? You will be required to bring at least four articles into conversation together. As with other unit papers, no outside research nor use of digital assistance like ChatGPT. You will be graded based on your use of course content to support your claim and argument.
One example of an approach would be to use Kiernan and Rubin to consider what happened to Karl Andersson and Louisa Allen. Another approach might be to consider “Dirty work” as it applies to articles like Allan, Irvine, Andersson, and Clark.
This paper must be thesis-driven, 2-3 pages in length, and must cite from at least four of the articles covered in this unit. MLA formatting required and a works cited page must be included.

  • “The Importance of American Indian Sovereignty and Territoriality: A Critical Analysis of Historical Policies and Contemporary Debates” In the article “Now You See It, Now You Don’t: The Politics of Sovereignty and Territoriality among

    1. You will need to have at least 150 words in this post plus full references due Sunday …Research must be done in the library using JSTOR database or other sources that are creditable.
    2.  You must reference using one of the three formats and following your major’s designated style: MLA, APA, CS, Kate L. Turabian’s Manual, and the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS).  YOU MUST CITE YOUR SOURCES!
The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) was founded in 1944 and is considered the oldest representative of American Indian and Alaskan Native organization that serves and advocates for the interests of tribal governments and communities.
The topic for the essay is concerning American Indian sovereignty and territoriality.  As you have seen in the NCAI report, self-governing is crucial to the survival and success of the First nation people.  Below is a series of articles that examine the history of sovereignty and the debate on whether the United States Congress  should limit or allow sovereignty for tribes in the United States.  Each article has to discuss the history and have knowledge of treaties and policies that have been made in the past.
In this essay you will summarize and discuss for the class what you learned in the article. In this essay make sure you discuss what sovereignty means and whether your author approves of sovereignty or not for an American Tribe residing in the United States.  Discuss some of those policies or treaties you discovered in the articles. Also discuss what issues the First Nations deal with in having the ability to self govern.  Also add one paragraph discussing your view on American Indian sovereignty but as always refrain from using “I”.
