  • “Balancing Autonomy and Beneficence: Ethical Considerations in Difficult Medical Decisions”

    DIFFICULT DECISIONS
Review the following case study and address the questions that follow:
The plaintiff, Bonita Perkins, in Perkins v. Lavin, was a Jehovah’s Witness. She gave birth to a baby at the defendant’s hospital. After going home, she began hemorrhaging and               returned to the hospital. She specifically informed the defendant’s employees that she     was not to be provided any blood or blood derivatives, and she signed a form to that        effect:
I request that no blood or blood derivatives be administered to [plaintiff] during this           hospitalization, notwithstanding that such treatment may be deemed necessary in the     opinion of the attending physician or his assistants to preserve life or promote recovery. I  release the attending physician, his assistants, the hospital, and its personnel from any       responsibility for any untoward results due to my refusal to permit the use of blood or its  derivatives.
Because of the plaintiff’s condition, it became necessary to perform an emergency             dilation and curettage. She continued to bleed, and her condition deteriorated                    dramatically. Her blood count dropped, necessitating administration of blood products as a lifesaving measure. Her husband, who was not a Jehovah’s Witness, consented to a        blood transfusion, which was administered. The plaintiff recovered and filed an action       against the defendant for assault and battery. The plaintiff’s claim as to assault and          battery was sustained.
The plaintiff specifically informed the defendant that she would consider a blood                  transfusion as offensive contact. Although both parties noted that the plaintiff’s husband  provided his consent for the transfusion, the defendant had not argued that his consent   was sufficient to overcome the plaintiff’s direction that she was not to receive a                    transfusion. The plaintiff submitted sufficient evidence to the trial court to establish that      there was, at least, a genuine issue as to whether the defendant intentionally invaded her  right to be free from offensive contact. Because of the plaintiff’s recognition that the           defendant acted to save her life, a jury may find that she is entitled to only nominal            damages.
    Tasks:
Should the court be the ultimate decision maker when there is a dispute over whether a lifesaving measure should be administered to a nonconsenting patient? Explain.
Should a parent have the right to refuse a lifesaving treatment (e.g., transfusion) for a minor? Explain.
To support your work, use your course and textbook readings. As in all assignments, cite    your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format. Please     add  precise conclusion.

  • 1. The Focus of My Research Paper: Examining the Use of Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Anti-Anxiety Medications in the Treatment of Panic Disorder. 2. Demonstrating Critical Thinking Skills: Exploring Multiple Perspectives on the Treatment of Panic Disorder. “Combining CBT and Antianxiety Medications: A Powerful Treatment Approach for Anxiety Disorders”

In one sentence (and only one sentence): What is the focus of your research paper? (What issue
are you going to explore and discuss with the reader? Remember that you are not just
presenting a series of “facts”. The thesis or focus is usually 1-2 sentences that states the main
topic of your paper. It is either in the first or last sentences of your introductory paragraph.) You
want to demonstrate “cognitive complexity” by looking at an issue from different perspectives
rather than “arguing” for one position
    2. How are you going to demonstrate your critical thinking skills? (Please review handout or grading
rubric on critical thinking before you answer this question.)
    3. What do you know about your writing skills that may pose a challenge for you? What might you
do at this point to address those potential challenges?
    4. List 3 of the credible sources (academic/peer reviewed references or .gov/.edu are the only
accepted sources) that you will be using for your research paper (and to develop this outline). Cite
your references in APA format. (Remember that 4 credible sources are the minimum that will be
required for your final paper. You are, of course, welcome to use more than four! See assignment
    guidelines.)
    5. Provide a one-page outline of your paper. State the 3 or 4 main sections of the paper in the order
in which you will present them in your research paper. You should also have subsections. See
    sample on the next page.
HINT: In order to do this well, you need to have done much of your research! You will need to think
about how you will organize your ideas. This outline should tell me how your paper will flow and what
you are going to be discussing in your paper.
If you have put sufficient thought and energy into developing your outline, it will make the actual
process of writing your paper so much easier! Your detailed outline will serve as a map or guideline to
    your writing.
However, you will need to have done sufficient research to complete this process. If you find that your
outline is a bit vague or there are too many “holes” in your outline, it may indicate that you need to go
back to do further research about a particular aspect of your topic and/or give it further thought.
Your outline should help you plan out each step in the presentation of the information in your paper and
will provide a logical flow to that information, leading the reader to your conclusions/summary. I should
be able to get a good sense of the main ideas of your paper by reading the outline and have a sense of
    your understanding and research.
If your outline is not sufficiently organized and detailed to do so, take the time to work on it further at
this point. It will save you time later!
Each section of the outline will roughly correspond to (at least) one paragraph and will indicate the
order in which you will address the different topics and subsections of your paper. (The title of each
subsection of the outline could give you the topic sentence of each paragraph!)
    SAMPLE OUTLINE:
For example, an outline on The Use of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Anti-anxiety medications in
the treatment of Panic Disorder might look like:
    I. Introduction with clear statement of focus/thesis assessing the treatment of panic disorder with
CBT or anti-anxiety medications or a combination of CBT and anti-anxiety medication
II. Brief definition of terms and relevance
    o Criteria defining panic disorder
o Prevalence and risks associated with panic disorder
    o Brief overview of CBT
o Brief overview of the most effective anti-anxiety medications used in the treatment of
    panic disorder
III. Strengths and limitations in treatment of panic disorder with CBT Including references to
specific client populations and cultural considerations
IV. Strengths and limitations in treatment of panic disorder with specified anti-anxiety medications
including references to client populations and cultural considerations
    V. Strengths and limitations in treatment of panic disorder with combined use of CBT and antianxiety medications VI. Summary comments including critical thinking based upon informed
professional opinion based upon evidence presented in paper

  • Title: Reflective Revision: Evolving as a Writer and Thinker

In this paper, you will employ revision strategies by revising a page from your Rhetorical Analysis paper. In addition to this revision, you will also compose a reflective memo that details the changes you’ve made in the revision and how they reflect your development as a writer and thinker over this semester. That is, in the memo you want to explain to me not just what you revised but why you revised in the way you did.
    Your Revision
You will choose a page from your Rhetorical Analysis essay. To guide your revision, you will consider the writing strategies you’ve learned throughout the semester, review the feedback I’ve given you on your essay, reconsider the suggestions students have made on your drafts, and reflect on your own ideas and concerns that you articulated in your reflection assignments. You will then decide which feedback to incorporate and which of your own new ideas to incorporate and revise your draft in way that – to the best of your ability – addresses the core issues in your first draft. Your revision will demonstrate your assessments of your writing and your mastery over the skills you’ve identified as critical to the revision. The idea here is that you demonstrate how you’ve continued to fine-tune your writing skills over the course of the semester and that you can now use these new understandings to revise your work. Your revised essay should reflect your end-of-the-semester knowledge and rhetorical expertise.
Understand that this will entail doing more than simply fixing spelling mistakes and grammar – you need to substantially change the page you’re revising, whether by changing the organization, adding key information, or rewriting segments all-together. If in doubt, consider reading the original page once, then putting it away and rewriting the page entirely – this may show you how your instincts as a writer now have changed compared to you instincts at the start of the semester.
    Reflection
The three-page memo is your chance to justify these changes, as well as your chance to show me how your writing has evolved over the semester. If you find that you’re unable to come up with 3 whole pages when it comes to reflect on your changes, it means that you haven’t done enough to change your draft and you need to go back to the drawing board. This should be a substantial and thoughtful attempt at growing and evolving in your writing and self-reflection. However, those three pages do not need to be entirely about your revision specifically – you can use this as a springboard to talk about how your writing and thinking has evolved overall this semester. Just make sure that you’ve explained your revision enough so your reader clearly understands what you’ve changed and why that change was so significant.
What to include to receive full credit:
The original page that you’ve chosen to revise, looking the way way it looked when you submitted it earlier in the semester
The newly revised version of that page (clearly labeled). This revision must be substantial and be more than small fixes.
A three-page (minimum) reflection on both your reasoning behind those changes and how they reflect on your evolution as a writer and/or thinker over the course of the semester. This reflection can talk about more than the revision itself, but it must clearly demonstrate why the changes you’ve made are significant.

Hello. Would you be able to assist with a work in progress? I am writitng a thesis on the subject of use of found objects in art therapy. I alrqady have the first chapter written, and have completed my data collection – there are approximately 300 items that include research articles, general articles, books and xhapters from books, all covering the theraputic use of found objects in some form. I am looking for someone to take this list and format it in APA style, organize the items into the categories i created, alphabetically, in places adding missing information, such as issue/page numbers, publishers, etc. Each item comes with a link to the source from where I found it, such as Google scholar, and a couple of other scolarly online databases. How much would you charge for this?
