  • Title: “The Power of Personal Experience: A Comparative Analysis of Heschel’s “Salvation” and Hughes’ “Salvation”

rewrite my reasearch paper taking into account my teachers sugestions.
“Good start. There is no comma in the date on the top your first page. Also, your first paragraph is confusing, because you are talking about Abraham Heschel’s “Salvation,” instead of Langston Hughes’ “Salvation.” Plus your thesis is confusing. I would rewrite your introduction. You are including outside sources throughout your draft. You need to state your points and ideas, then you use the supporting sources to back up your own ideas instead of just summarizing the sources throughout your paper.”

  • “Analyzing Current Issues: Connecting Class Concepts to Real-World Arguments”

For this video, choose one item that addresses a current issue and makes connections to class concepts. The item may be print or video—for example, an article from the current edition of a newspaper or magazine, a segment from a news or talk show, a YouTube video, vlog, or any program that features current affairs.
Your item (up to 2 minutes) will be embedded in a PowerPoint that you will use to supplement your presentation.
You may use clips of a video, pause a video as necessary to identify concepts, or use a clip for a full 2 minutes. However, you cannot use over two minutes of video in your own presentation.
Items cannot be more than 90 days old.
Clips and articles can be embedded in a PowerPoint that you will use to supplement your presentation or you can share your screen and show these separately during your presentation.
Remember, your PowerPoint is there to guide you during your presentation. Do not overload this with text.
Submit a 4-5 minute video in which you:
Use any software you are comfortable with, including Panopto, in order to record yourself speaking and presenting a PowerPoint at the same time. You and your PowerPoint must be visible during the entirety of the presentation. This cannot just be a recording of your face presenting and it cannot just be a voice over with your PowerPoint – Video and screen option should be selected on any media you use.
Clearly identify the argument. Present the premises and conclusion in your chosen article or video clip and explain their importance. Did the speakers/writers use deductive or inductive reasoning?
In your article or video clip, identify three of the following: vague/ambiguous language; credibility; cognitive bias; rhetoric; logical fallacies; generalizations; arguments from analogy; cause and effect reasoning; and value judgments about morality, law, or aesthetics.
Explain why you think the argument fits this concept. Also, identify if this was purposeful and why, and how this affects the strength of the argument.
Provide a conclusion to your video. Was the argument convincing? What is your position? (30 seconds max)
    Length: 5 minutes maximum

  • “Intersections of Gender and Identity in Cristina Garcia’s Dreaming in Cuban”

    Lit 275-Essay 4
Throughout the novel, we see the interconnected lives of Cuban-American women that span generations. Throughout their stories, we learn of the sociopolitical, economic, cultural, and religious influences that act upon them. At times, these forces become tools of empowerment while, at other moments, they threaten the individual agency of the women.
For this essay, you will make an argument about how Garcia’s novel illustrates the ways gender is influenced by other sociocultural factors such as race, politics, class, religion, and/or sexuality. Your thesis should give an answer to the the following: What do we learn about intersectionality through the del Pino family? How do the form, themes/motifs, and other literary features of the novel work to articulate this understanding?
To enhance your reading, you will need to rely on close reading of the novel as well as secondary critical research. You must effectively tie in at least 1 of the critical readings provided as well as 2 additional peer-reviewed outside source to meet the minimum requirements. There should be a
clear and substantiative connection between the outside material and primary text. Essays that simply draw in an outside quote but do not articulate its significance within the context of the overall argument will not score highly.
Overall, we should leave with a clear sense of the novel’s importance with respect to gender intersectionality. It is one thing to point out the ways gender is present in the novel. However, we want to go further and state why these representations of gender are significant—we should make a case for what the novel and secondary sources teach rather than show.
    Requirements:
At least 1,250-1,500 words excluding the works cited page
Use and appropriate citation of at least 1 of the two journal articles provided as well as 2 peer-reviewed outside sources, for a total of at least 3 peer reviewed outside sources.
Completion and Submission of essay rough draft
Submission to Canvas by the due date listed in the course calendar
    Successful essays will:
Have a clear thesis that makes an argumentative point about gender, intersectionality and Latinx identity as presented in the text(s)
Identify and elaborate upon the specific literary devices and genres used by the author
Incorporate and closely read textual evidence beyond summarizing
Effectively draw in outside research to further the textual argument
Adhere to MLA standards and have minimal spelling/grammatical errors
    Less successful essays will:
Lack a clear thesis or state facts about the text
Not refer to any literary devices or terminology
Not include sufficient textual evidence to justify points
Not include outside research or merely place outside quotes without tying them to a specific point
Include many grammatical and spelling errors that disrupt the argument

  • “Exploring Themes and Formal Choices in “Passion Joan of Arc”: A Focused Analysis of the Film’s Central Conflict”

Assignment: This 6-8 page paper (double-spaced) should advance a focused, argumentative thesis about 1-3 films (at least one of which we’ve seen in class) and should support this thesis with persuasive analysis of specific scenes and formal choices. Use definitely the film called, “Passion Joan of Arc.”
Process: To arrive at a thesis, I recommend that you think about the topics and films that have interested you the most over the course of the semester. Think about what questions, themes, and ideas you’d like to explore further in these films (or a single film). A great way to derive a thesis is to think of an essential conflict arising from a theme/idea expressed in a film (or up to 3 films). This can be a matter of social or cultural commentary expressed through the film’s formal techniques or you can focus on the meaning-making of the aesthetics of formal techniques themselves. This assignment is essentially a longer version of your scene analysis. Please refer to the scene analysis guidelines for concrete writing suggestions.
Review Comments on Scene Analysis: It is also a good idea to review the comments I made on your scene analysis and to keep those in mind as you draft your final paper. For instance, if you struggled with logical transitions between ideas or paragraphs in your scene analysis, you will want to make sure to attend to similar problems as they may arise in your final paper. Similarly, if you struggled with a focused thesis, you will want to make sure that you are more concrete and explicit in your final paper. If your scene analysis had a lot of “Significance” tags, you need to do a more thorough job analyzing the significance of your observations to the thesis you are advancing.
Final Paper Due via Turn-It-In link –December 13th, Noon
Grading Rubric: Please keep the following rubric in mind as you write your final paper.
    A/A+ –
    ·      Clear, focused thesis communicating a persuasive and unique argument about to a well-defined central theme/idea of the film(s) in question.
    ·      Close-readings and analyses of scenes and specific elements from the film(s) that are persuasive and specific and provide evidence/support for the paper’s argument.
    ·      Unique observations and well-developed analysis throughout.
    ·      Logical transitions between sentences, ideas, and paragraphs that build an argument rather than create a laundry list of examples.
    A-/B+ –
    ·      Many unique observations but perhaps lacking in a focused enough or argumentative enough thesis.
    ·      Alternately, a focused thesis with weak/vague analysis and language throughout or close-readings that are not persuasive or specific enough or are presented without strong logical transitions and thus read as a laundry list.
    ·      Papers in this range all at least attempt analysis (rather than simply making observations).
    B/B-
    ·      Functional observations but no central thesis or a weak/vague thesis.
    ·      Some legitimate observations but generally absent analysis or unpersuasive analysis or analysis of a scene’s entertainment value rather than of a theme/idea central to the film.
    ·      Papers that do not present enough evidence from the film(s) in question or present such evidence in insufficient depth.
    ·      Papers with generally vague language and unspecific citations/discussions.
    C+/C
    ·      Bare minimum for the assignment.
    ·      Vague citations of scenes and/or undeveloped analysis and/or absent thesis.
    ·      Papers that are only half the minimum length.
Scene Analysis is attached below for help. The sources listed as mandatory are only the suggested amount of sources. You can use less sources.
