  • “The Power of Narrative: Analyzing How The Jungle Calls for Social Justice” “Crafting a Cohesive and Convincing Argument: An Analysis of the Structure and Language in an Essay”

Craft a 5 page persuasive essay that uses close reading skills to analyze how 1-2 passages from The Jungle  call readers to recognize and address social injustice. For this assignment cite directly from  the jungle by upton sinclair. only source should be the jungle by upton sinclair
Your argument should address at least 2 of the 3 questions below:
    1. How does the text attempt to evoke affective responses conducive to social justice? How does it attempt to generate feelings like empathy, outrage, compassion, disgust, conviction, etc.?
    2. How does the text convey the nature of the injustice(s) represented? What essential rights, values, and/or needs does it portray as violated or neglected?
    3. What alternate and more just behaviors and systems does the text call for? How does it make such a call?
In answering at least 2 of those 3 questions in a coherent argument, you will ideally offer your reader some idea of what tools fictional narratives can use to orient readers’ minds toward social justice. A strong essay will also likely comment on why it matters that The Jungle  call readers to recognize and address the social injustices on which they focus.
This essay should focus on close reading rather than contextualization/research. Dig into the mechanics of the passage(s) you analyze, consider things like figurative language, narrative perspective, narrative structure, etc. Some light research to define key terms could be useful, but I do not recommend extensive research for this assignment.
    Essential Goals:
The essay’s thesis is arguable (i.e., non-factual and unobvious) and represents a plausible interpretation of the way in which 1-2 passages from The Jungle  call readers to recognize and address social injustice. The thesis conveys possible answers to two of questions 1-3 above.
Nearly all of the essay’s claims can be easily understood as relevant to the essay’s thesis.
The essay clearly identifies enough relevant textual evidence from 1-2 passages in the novel to support its claims about how the text communicates a call for social justice, analyzing at least 4 direct quotes from the novel.
The essay’s claims and reasoning offer substantial, coherent answers to two of questions 1-3 above. The essay generally uses reasoning effectively to show how the essay’s evidence supports its claims and thesis.
The essay uses the MLA citation style to cite the analyzed text and includes an MLA style Works Cited (see this site and this site for more info; ask me questions if further clarity is needed).
The essay is 4-6 pages long.
The essay’s language is generally clear and free of grammatical errors.
    Advanced Goals:
The essay’s combination of thesis, claims, reasons, and evidence presents a compelling, persuasive, thorough argument (one that is likely to sway readers and makes counterarguments difficult) about how 1-2 passages from The Jungle call readers to recognize and address social injustice.
The essay’s thesis clearly articulates the argument’s stakes (why it matters that we attend to The Jungle’s calls for social justice), effectively conveys the argument’s central claims, and signals some of the reasoning that will be used to support those claims.
The essay demonstrates complex, nuanced thinking about the ways fictional narrative and literary style can be used to alter how readers think about, respond to, and recognize social justice issues and the people related to those issues.
The essay presents convincing, detailed, precise claims and reasoning about how specific uses of language in the chosen novel invite specific affective responses, work to persuade readers that certain rights, values, and/or needs are both essential and neglected, and/or suggest (again in persuasive terms) alternate, more just possibilities for society.
The essay’s key terms are either clearly defined or already unambiguous, and those key terms are used with a precision that suggests a strong grasp on their meaning.
Paragraphs in the essay are crafted in ways that foreground the author’s argument, focusing on analysis and avoiding summary or contextualization that does not progress your argument. The claims around which paragraphs are structured clearly progress the essay’s argument or serve another logical function.
The essay presents a robust amount of textual evidence and the function of nearly all pieces of textual evidence are given thorough explanations that make evident how that piece of evidence supports the essay’s claims and thesis. The argument walks readers through how a piece of evidence does what they claim it does.
The sequencing of the essay’s paragraphs demonstrates the author’s understanding how their claims build on each other. Later claims follow logically from early claims.
The essay’s language flows in ways that make comprehension easy. It is unlikely that a skilled reader would need to reread get the gist of your meaning or would be “bumped” out of their reading process.

  • “The Art of Persuasion: Crafting a Strong Argument through Addressing Opposing Viewpoints”

This is a 7 page argumentative paper. It has to be written a certain way though. The introduction and conclusion are mostly normal. But the body has to be written beginning with an opposing point first then explain the opposing point then provide a concession and counter argument(make sure the counter-argument addresses the issue raised in the opposing point) then lastly add explanation and research to show support. If you run out of opposing points then you can just use supportive points in the last couple paragraphs. Please make a works cited page in the end but that doesn’t count for the 7 pages. The font is 12pt and Times New Roman double spaced. I provided screenshots of all the important instructions and information please read.

  • “Building a Comprehensive PowerPoint Presentation: Incorporating Support Files”

I will provide a start file which will be an unfinished powerpoint, along with an instructions file that will tell you specifically how to build and complete the powerpoint. I will also provide 3 support files that will be added into the powerpoint throughout.
The first file will be the starting file (unfinished powerpoint)
    followed by the instructions file
and then the 3 support files
Please review the files before bidding as it is not as easy at it may sound. There are a lot of minor details that need to be correct.

  • Title: “The Unspoken Words in a Tense Confrontation” Inner Monologue of John, from the play “A Streetcar Named Desire” As I stand here, facing my sister-in-law, Stella, I can feel

Choose a scene from this play. Explore the subtext in the scene you have chosen. What unspoken “lines” or words may be going through the characters’ minds as they deliver their spoken dialogue? Choose a section of lines and write an inner monologue that ONE of the actors might think as he or she speaks the lines in the text (Note: you do not have to retype the lines of the play—what is going on inside the character’s head?).
Review the definition of inner monologue. Your inner monologue should convey the “stream of consciousness” thoughts and emotions going on inside your character as he or she is speaking his or her lines and listening to the lines of the other character. Sometimes the inner monologue will match the tone of the spoken lines. Sometimes it may be quite different. How might the inner monologue affect the way the spoken lines are delivered by an actor?
The inner monologue should be written in paragraph form, and in first-person voice, in character (try for a monologue between 3/4 and 1 1/2 pages long, double-spaced).

  • “Exploring Intercultural Communication in The Blind Side: A Film Analysis” “Effective Research and Writing: Guidelines for Writing a Successful Paper”

Film: The Blind Side For the final project, you will analyze a feature film that has something to do with intercultural communication. As discussed in class, “culture” can be defined broadly and may include many types of things such as ethnicity, religion, race, family size, geographical location, generation, gender, and sexual orientation.
In a 5-7 page Word doc, describe how intercultural communication (using only those aspects that are meaningful to the film and that you wish to discuss) works in this film. Be sure that you are addressing the film as a film – something that has been created and edited for very specific purposes. Too often students talk about a film as if it were a piece of real life they were observing. Certainly, that is what a filmmaker wants, but for this assignment, I want you to look at not just the characters and the dialogue, but also the staging, lighting, camera angles, editing, etc. How did the director(s) and writer(s) specifically shape this film, and what does that shaping say about intercultural communication? For additional perspective on these aspects, consider bell hooks’ commentary from Week 3.
What you choose to examine in the film is up to you; however, some aspects of the dialogue and characterization you might look at include patterns of family interaction, expectations regarding marriage, music preferences, food preferences, style of dress, values,
sense of humor, political affiliation, behavior in public places, propensity toward competitiveness, ambition, gender roles, and conversational style. In addition to the specific aspects you select, also analyze nonverbal elements of how it was filmed, such as lighting, staging, the angle of the camera shots on characters (looking down at them, looking up at them), what type of actor is chosen to portray that character, etc.
After explaining what happens in the scenes you chose from the film, ask yourself questions about it. Here are examples of questions you might ask: In what ways are culture and identity communicated in the scene? What makes this intercultural? How are stereotypes used to communicate who the characters are? How does the script and/or choices by the director shape your perception of the scene? What is the relationship between identity and context for the characters? Do any identities undergo change? How are we “told” by the directors to view certain characters? By what means does the director try to get us to perceive the character in that way? What social forces, religions/traditions/values/norms have shaped these characters? To which culture or cultural assumptions does the film appeal? Whose social interests (in terms of social positions) are represented in this film? How are cultural spaces constructed? Are there conflicts of culture? How is power implicated in the social positions represented in the film? And so on…
Keep in mind that you are not expected to address every question listed here and that you might come up with your own questions. The point is to think critically about what is conveyed about culture in the movie you select. You will decide what aspects are most relevant to discuss for a thoughtful analysis; however, the following must be done to receive full credit on the assignment:
✓ Include a one to two paragraph summary of the film (keep it brief, please!)
✓ Examine film techniques used by the director to “talk about” culture and identity
✓ Discuss verbal and nonverbal communication as they relate to intercultural communication
✓ Convey insight and understanding of intercultural communication by incorporating concepts learned in class, demonstrate what you have learned in this analysis
✓ Include a minimum of 3 scholarly references in your analysis (one can be the course textbook, the other 2 must be outside sources that talk about culture — Wikipedia and sources giving just a synopsis or review of the movie do not count). When using material from a reference source, you must include in-text citations. Points will be deducted if they are missing. Additional sources are always welcome.
✓ Cite all references appropriately within the paper and in the Works Cited page, and consistently use APA or MLA style (for example, do NOT simply list the URL
✓ Finally, the paper must be 5 to 7 pages in length (the reference page is additional and no title page, please), clearly organized and well-written with minimum grammar and spelling errors
✓ Submit the paper to this assignment no later than the deadline

  • “Exploring the Role of the ACL Department in Sports Medicine at the Sussex Hospital”

The report assessment file contains all of the directions. For this essay, I need to concentrate on discussing a specific topic rather than the business as a whole. Additionally, if it’s possible, please use the Sussex Library for some of the references. Additionally, I would like to discuss the ACL as the primary department to focus on which can wrap in with the the sports department of the hospital. If that isn’t feasible, though, please keep me informed about any potential solutions, and we can go through them together.

  • Title: Policy Statement for Ethical Use of SharePoint® Server 2013: Cultural and Global Considerations

Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:
Research Transparency International (TI), publishes the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) and annually ranks countries “by their perceived levels of corruption, as determined by expert assessments and opinion surveys.” The CPI generally defines corruption as “the misuse of public power for private benefit.”
Discuss your outlook on the CPI. Do you agree with TI’s assessment of the United States, India, Somalia and a country of your choice? Why or why not?
The director of IT has indicated that the board of directors is compiling a corporate portfolio on ethics and has asked all departments to contribute information on how to write policy statements that reflect a code of ethics. The director of IT has asked for you to provide an example of a policy statement that reflects the work you do in IT administration.
Research the cultural and global political considerations for the use of a sharing service as presented in the lab and the data that could be hosted and made available via the Internet. How cultural perspective could impact the security decisions of an administrator setting up SharePoint® Server 2013, citing choices that were made in the labs
Global political issues, such as corruption, human rights, and rights to privacy, in the U.S. and Key Nations, based on your readings and discussions this week
Write a 1- to 2-page example of a policy statement using Microsoft® Word. Complete the following in your document:
A brief description of the types of data that are hosted and made available via the Internet using SharePoint® Server 2013. Include at least 2 types.
At least 2 cultural or global political considerations for sharing services (e.g., privacy rights)
Your opinion regarding any IT choices that seem to transcend culture
At least 1 example of choices you have when administering SharePoint® Server 2013 that could depend on your ethical stance
