  • Title: Pseudocode and Flowchart for Pet Boarding and Grooming Software Method “Creating a Pet BAG Specification Document: Utilizing Shapes and Pictures”

    Overview
Pseudocode is language agnostic, which means that you can create pseudocode with little to no experience in a specific programming language. Pseudocode is an important tool to work with individually or as a part of a development team to plan your code. Think of pseudocode as the broad strokes in a painting that help you plan your finer strokes when writing your code. Flowcharts are a powerful way to represent logic, decisions, and branching graphically. This milestone will help you develop the skills necessary to plan and organize your code, which is an important skill for programmers of all experience levels.
In this milestone, you will work with the same scenario as in Project One. You are part of a development team that has been asked to design and develop custom software for a local pet boarding and grooming business, Pet Boarding and Grooming (Pet BAG). To prepare for the code you will eventually write, you will create pseudocode and a flowchart for either the pet check-in or pet check-out method to meet the Pet BAG company’s specifications. You only need to pick one method. This milestone is one part of the work you will complete for Project One. After you have completed this milestone, review any instructor feedback you receive. This way, you can make improvements before your final submission in Project One.
    Directions
Your supervisor has provided you with the Pet BAG Specification Document in the Supporting Materials section below. This document reviews Pet BAG’s software needs. Review the pet check-in and pet check-out methods described in the Functionality section. Then choose one of the methods to implement: check-in or check-out. As you read through the descriiptions for each method, ask yourself the following questions and take notes:
How would I break down these steps so that a computer can understand?
A computer can only execute the instructions it receives. Create these instructions with the understanding that the computer knows nothing about the Pet BAG specifications.
What information would I need from the user at each point?
When would it be a good idea to use decision branching, such as IF and IF ELSE statements?
These are areas where more than one path is possible, depending on user input or results from a method.
Next, write pseudocode that outlines a plan for the one method you chose and aligns to the specifications. Start by breaking down the descriiption of your chosen method into a series of ordered steps. As you write and review each step, consider the following questions:
What input does the computer need to complete the task?
Include user input PROMPTS in your pseudocode.
What output should the computer display to the user?
When might you need to use decision branching and use a different set of steps depending on the user input? If you used decision branching, did you account for all possible input values?
Reminder: You do not need to write pseudocode for both methods.
Based on the pseudocode you wrote, create a flowchart for the method you selected. Remember, you do not need to create a flowchart for both methods. Your flowchart will help your team communicate to your client how you plan to develop the software. In your flowchart, be sure to do the following actions:
    Include start and end points.
    Include appropriate decision branching.
Align the flowchart to the check-in or check-out process you selected.
Note: You can find the correct shapes to create your flowchart on the Insert menu in Microsoft Word. You may also draw your flowchart by hand, take a clear picture, and insert the picture into your Word document. Use the Add Shapes and Insert Pictures tutorials in the Supporting Materials section to help you. If you prefer, you could also use a flowcharting tool that you are familiar with, such as Lucidchart.
    What to Submit
Submit your pseudocode and flowchart in a 1- to 2-page Microsoft Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins.
    Supporting Materials
The following resources support your work on this assignment:

  • “Exploring the Struggles of Addiction: A Qualitative Study on the Journey to Sobriety”

I am looking to write a dissertation focusing on how to improve the effectiveness of substance use disorder treatment. My theory is that eating disorders – such as, binge eating disorder or bulimia nervosa – in adolescents may be at risk of developing substance use disorder in the future. However, there were many articles that did study this question. Therefore, I am trying to change the topic to something that is more associated with social work (like what are addicts’ biggest struggles before becoming addicted to a substance, what are their biggest struggles during active addiction, and what are their biggest struggles after abstaining from their substance of choice). I want to do a qualitative study by interviewing addicts who have over 6 months of sobriety.

    • Collaboration in groups – brainstorming, evaluating ideas, overcoming differences, coming to a consensus.
    • Apply the education from the semester to articulate choices and why (use of notes in PPT is the method for this)
By the end of this project, students should have gained an understanding of the role of marketing and many of the steps taken to provide an effective marketing plan presentation.
Task: Students will work in groups (3-4 people depending on the size of the class) to create a PowerPoint presentation that showcases the group’s knowledge learned throughout the course.  The groups will be tasked with creating a compelling marketing plan/presentation for a “new product” (one they conceptually create).  Research in the industry/market (citing when taking information from sources) and using the terminology and concepts from the textbook is expected in all presentations.
Citations AND references are required for this assignment. Students MUST provide Citation/References for any researched material.  It is expected that every group will have cited material.  Students should use APA format for citations and references.  Citations (Author, Year written or posted) should be provided near referenced material, in the notes and or in the PPT slide.  References (the list of sources) should be at the end of the presentation.
    Citation and References Resources:
    • https://apastyle.apa.org/
The PowerPoint presentation should start with a title slide with all the names of the group members, an introduction of what items will be presented (how the presentation is organized – a table of contents) and then offer information about the brainstormed product. The body of the presentation should provide engaging visuals and text and address all the areas shared in the skills section (references to these areas are discussed throughout the semester) above.  The end of the presentation should conclude with a wrap-up that summarizes the marketing plan (aka a conclusion) and a list of references.  The presentation should have a minimum of 20 slides and a maximum of 30 slides.
Notes (PPT has an area where you can write notes for a slide, do not provide a separate document) must be provided for the majority of the slides.  The notes information should showcase to me the link between your understanding of the textbook and what you have provided for your business/product (that link between knowledge of the terms/concepts and being able to apply it).  Notes should explain why you picked what strategies you picked and align with the terminology/concepts from the text and your research.  The 2nd section of the rubric below is dedicated solely towards assessing the notes section.
    Blackboard Examples:
I have provided examples of presentations from previous semesters on Blackboard.  Because these are actual final projects, there are some issues. The presentations should not be exactly how you create your presentation.  You need to look back at the feedback your group was provided for your ICA assignments and use your own judgment along with the presentation examples.  I expect even better presentations/projects from you all.  Make sure to carefully review items in the examples, such as the order of concepts (sometimes you can review this from the Table of Contents if it is detailed, which it should be) and whether all skill areas are presentto see if you need to make any adjustments.
    Group Dynamics:
While I know working in groups is not always liked by all students, working in groups is absolutely a skill needed for the workforce.  It is best to get practice at it and become better skilled at it.
Some groups may have creative differences or other issues.  Students should not wait until the project is submitted or close to completion to discuss with me the issues.  There is not much that can be done at that point.  If issues arise that appear not to be able to be resolved through healthy discussion amongst the group, I should be contacted for resolution.  Most issues are able to be resolved with my help.  It is rare that this is not achieved; however, if we cannot come to a resolution, the group may be able to be separated and team members or individuals can complete the entirety of the project.
    Criteria for Success:
This project is worth a total of 190 points.
The grading criteria (rubric) for the marketing plan is provided below.  Not citing properly will result in a lowered grade, not citing and providing references may result in a failing grade – plagiarism
