Please select one of the options below for this week’s main post.
1) Be the writer: After reading this week’s assigned literature and online learning resources, imagine that you are a member of the group travelling to Canterbury. Then, think about what your own tale might be, in general terms… It should be an autobiographical tale reflecting upon an aspect of your personal life (your job or career; family; hobbies and interests; where you live now; places you’ve travelled or adventures you’ve experienced).
In your main post, you should first provide a title for your tale. Then, write a brief synopsis of your imagined tale you’d share to the group, or provide a brief description of your main character (you) that is at least 10 lines, written in rhyming couplets. Next, discuss how your character would likely interact with some of the other travelers described in Chaucer’s Prologue. (Use a specific example). Finally, explain to the class how your tale would be similar and/or different from any of the tales you read this week in terms of character, tone, theme, or satire.
or
2) Be the teacher: For your main post, select one of this week’s assigned stories and briefly identify and explain its theme(s) in your own words, addressing your classmates as if they are your students. Along the way, quote/cite a specific online learning resource (one linked in class, or a scholarly source found elsewhere) that can aid in their understanding of the story you chose. Last, at the bottom of your main post, write one relevant, engaging discussion question about your story, or this week’s assigned literature in general. The question shouldn’t be purposefully confusing or difficult, nor should it be obvious or simplistic. Any question should require a short response of no more than one paragraph for students to successfully answer- no multiple-choice, matching, fill-in-the-blank questions allowed.
Continue discussion of questions and answers as the week progresses. If replying to a classmate who is acting as the teacher, be sure your reply includes an answer to their question(s). If possible, respond to classmates who haven’t already had their question answered by another student.

Title: Identifying Polynomial and Rational Functions in Real-Life Situations
This assignment assesses your skills/knowledge on identifying polynomial and rational functions, the domain, using the graphical representation of these functions, and hence you will study the behavior- discontinuities, increasing, decreasing and extrema.
In real life situations the growth need not be smooth and always increasing or decreasing. The functional values may be having different turnings and may be disappearing at some points. These kinds of situations are represented by polynomial and rational functions. This assignment will enable you to identify such functions and interpret them mathematically and graphically.
You are required to complete all the 5 tasks in this assignment, answer the following questions, and show stepwise calculations. When you are instructed to make a graph in this assignment, please use GeoGebra graphing tool.
Task 1. Interpret the following graph in detail:(I) Identify the turning points, zeros, and x-intercepts.
(ii) Do you find any point or zero which has a multiplicity in the graph? If so, specify them with multiplicity and explain the reason.
(iii) Identify the degree and the polynomial as well as identify the domain in which the polynomial is increasing and decreasing.
(iv) Do we have local maximum/minimum here? If yes, find them.
(v) Find the remainder when the polynomial is divided by x-4.
Task 2. Given a polynomial: f(x) = x4 – 8×3 -8×2 +8x +7
(i)Use rational theorem and synthetic division to find the zeros of the polynomial
(ii) Draw the graph using GeoGebra graphing tool.
(iii) Identify its end behavior
Task 3. Given a function ” src=”https://my.uopeople.edu/filter/tex/pix.php/6a632a9cf828e20f00570b5551673896.png”>
(i) Find the horizontal and vertical asymptotes.
(ii) Find the domain of rational function. Show all steps.
(i) Identify the horizontal and vertical asymptotes (if any). Explain how you would find horizontal and vertical asymptotes of any rational function mathematically.
(ii) Identify the zeros of the rational function.
(iii) Identify the rational function.
Task 5. Before working on this task 5, please read the following reading:
Read page 238 of the following textbook will help you in understanding the concepts better.

An online courier service is ready to transport a diverse range of items to ensure efficient delivery. The agency requires boxes of various dimensions. Let’s now focus on creating open boxes that have fixed height for storing these items. Take a cardboard of length thrice of the width and cut the edge of all 4 corners with 15cms, then fold the cardboard to get an open box. Based on that information, answer the following questions:
(i) Find the volume of the open box, explain whether the resultant function is a polynomial or any other.
(ii) Find the possible domain for the volume function
(iii) If we wish to put a flexible item that has a volume of 12500 cubic cm, what dimensions of the box would be appropriate?

Title: The Impact of Social Media on Mental Health: Exploring the Negative Effects and Potential Solutions
You will need a total of 5-6 sources for this essay.
Choose a topic.
Do preliminary research using Radiolab or Points of View. This article or podcast will count as your first source.
Identify a topic.
Create a preliminary argumentative research question based on your initial research. Answer the question to create a working thesis or claim.
Use the methods that you learned during the library instruction class to find 4-5 additional sources for your research question. At least three of these sources must come from the library’s databases or Google Scholar. You may use 1 source that you identify from a simple Google search, but you must show these sources to your professor for his approval.
Read and annotate your sources.
Based on this research, refine your preliminary research question, and create a strong argumentative claim or thesis.
Write an exploratory, a middle draft, and a final draft.
Refer to your research often in your essay and use evidence that is thoughtfully selected, analyzed, and explained in terms of your claim or thesis.

“Exploring the Mathematical Relationships between Musical Intervals and Tuning Systems: A Study of Dissonance and Consonance”
This is a Maths Exploration. There is a stict guideline which we have to follow (see below). We choose our own research question, which in my case is: “Mathematically determining the ratios of musical inetrvals in different tuning systems and their levels of dissonance and consonance.” Since there is a personal background part, I have already written that part. I have my started draft as .docx file, as well as the guidelines, some background research and an example of what the paper should look like.

“The Interdisciplinary Nature of Intelligence Studies: Exploring the Importance of a Specific Topic” Title: Setting Boundaries and Assumptions: Establishing a Firm Starting Point for Problem Analysis
This assignment is a research paper. This means you will choose a topic that is focused on intelligence (or be intelligence related and you explain how it is important to intelligence), identify your research sources, identify and apply a research method to your paper, and draft a paper that defends your main point/thesis.
As you’ve learned across the program, the field of intelligence studies is an interdisciplinary in that it incorporates elements important to economics, business, psychology, international relations, political science, criminal justice, security studies and more. The term “intelligence” can refer to both a product as well as a process, and a topic that is important to “intelligence” would be something that supports a particular requirement or mission. For example, “competitive” intelligence is often something that’s carried out to support the mission of businesses, whereas “sociocultural intelligence” focuses on understanding social and cultural principles of target areas in a manner to achieve the goals of a particular mission. Executive Order 12333 on United States Intelligence Activities further explains that the goals of United States intelligence in its official government capacity is geared towards assisting leaders make decisions specific to foreign, defense, and economic policies and the protection of the US national interest. However, it’s also important to keep in mind is that “intelligence” is also not limited to the confines of United States intelligence or the United States intelligence community for that matter – the world is MUCH bigger than that.
Topic:
You must choose a topic from your area of concentration which is important to intelligence studies. You are free to choose any topic you are interested in or have wanted to investigate but haven’t been able to address.
Thesis:
Your paper must have a solid, pointed premise. A solid main point is a conclusion of analysis, based on your research, that is reasoned and pointed. You cannot choose a main point which is obvious or self-evident (terrorism led to the war in Afghanistan or the lack of WMD in Iraq was an intelligence mistake). You must ask a research question, research, and draw a conclusion or answer to the question. Your research question should be stated as a declarative sentence in your introduction. That declarative statement is your premise or hypothesis. You must be specific, not vague or general.
Content:
You should be sure to have a thesis that addresses the topic you are focusing on and that this thesis is CLEAR and UNAMBIGUOUS. If you have any questions about your thesis you should ask them on the open discussion board for the class. It is OK to share your ideas and ask for feedback. Also, if necessary, you can ask me for input (though you are now expected to be able to develop your own theses and know that what your developing is a good thesis. Your thesis must be in the first paragraph or section of your paper.
You should also be sure to have section headings, a title page, incorporate citations using The Chicago Manual of Style format, have a corresponding “References” or “Bibliography” page, and incorporate page numbers and all the other elements of a professional paper.
Deliverable:
Your paper should be 15-18 pages in length, double spaced, times new roman 12 point font, 1 inch margins on all 4 sides. You are welcome to use graphs and charts and maps, etc., provided they add new information and support your paper. You should have a title page and a references list (neither of which count towards the assignments total page count).
Sources:
You should strive for 12+ references (which shouldn’t be difficult given all the reading you’ve done in your program). Be sure that your selection of sources gives you balance, that they are credible and reliable and scholarly. To help you determine the appropriateness of a source, please refer to the CRAAP worksheet below.
Assumptions:
All research papers have assumptions. These establish the boundaries of the problem, exclude difficult variables, and provide a firm starting point. While it is not necessary to have a separate section for assumptions, it is necessary that you identify them when you make them. (For instance in an examination of extremist group behavior you might note that one of your assumptions is that all the members of the group agree with how its goals are being carried out.)
Plagiarism:
Don’t do it. If you want to build upon idea you’ve written about previously you need to let me know in advance and you also need to move your prior work forward. At no time (unless you receive prior consent from me) should you copy and paste sections of your prior course work into this paper. You must work on a topic that you’ve not worked on in the past, though you can build from your learning throughout your degree coursework. You must be attentive to quotes both direct and indirect, a refresher on writing style and Chicago referencing can be found in the course overview section of this class. Please note that at this level of your academic career, it’s assumed that you have learned how to incorporate references properly. I know this isn’t anything new for you at this point but based on experience I need to emphasize that plagiarism will result in an F. -
Title: “The Significance of “The Foggy Dew” in the Irish War of Independence and its Impact on Modern Irish History”
I have already written half as attached, please maybe edit and add the extra words to this. The source is on the first page of the document attached. References to use footnotes too.
I would like the rest of the context section to be written about the lead up to the Irish war of independence, including the creation of the Dail Éireann and the first year of the war of independence, however keep it brief. If a few words could be shaven if my previous paragraph about the Easter rising that can be done too. And maybe added sources
The next two paragraphs will be on the purpose of the source and the sources accuracy and bias.
Purpose:
– to inspire those taking part in the war if independence
– glorify dying for Ireland
– it’s use as a song to be spread across the country
Accuracy and bias:
– moderately accurate, though its intention is not historical accuracy
– some points of contention
– “fearless men, but few” does not include the role many women took up
– the song makes it seem as though at the time the general public supported the rebels however this was untrue
-bias:
– written by a catholic priest clearly republican and glorifies the rebels
Significance and conclusion:
Just a paragraph on the significance of the song and its link to more modern Irish history including the troubles. And a conclusion
