  • “Exploring the Versatility of Research Papers: Crafting a Genre to Effectively Communicate Your Ideas and Engage Your Audience”

While the term “research paper” is common, it doesn’t exist as a singular genre. That is, you may be asked to research and work with the resulting texts in a variety of ways across classes and careers. The projects will often look very different from each other in terms of purpose, audience, style, and organization.
With that in mind, I’m not asking you to make a particular type of “research paper” in our final project. Instead, I want you to practice with a variety of rhetorical tools; to develop and revise your writing to effectively represent your own perspectives; and to consider the needs and expectations of a specific & appropriate audience. Aim to make something that people would find useful or interesting. In short: you get to choose a genre that fits your purpose and audience, while allowing you to dive deeply into the topic.

Post Misrepresents immigrants’ Eligibility for Socisl Security Numbers, Benefit
By Alan Jaffe. Posted on April 26, 2024
    – Immigrants who are lawfully living or authorized to work in the U.S. are eligible for a Social Security number and, in some cases, Social Security benefits. But viral posts make the false claim that “illegal immigrants” can receive Social Security numbers and retirement benefits
    – Social Security numbers can also be assigned to “an individual with a valid nonwork reason… For example, they need an SSN because of a federal or state law requiring an SSN to get a benefit or service,” Henriquez said.
    – Many of the immigrants arriving at the U.S. southern border in recent years have sought asylum claiming they fear returning to their home countries because of persecution and other dangers.

    * HOMEWORK: ESSAY 4 (RESEARCH PAPER) DUE on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 11:59 pm as a Word attachment in an email to me: (1,250 – 1,500 words—10-11 paragraphs).
Compare/contrast the views of two current candidates (perhaps one of them being the candidate you discussed in Essay 2) on 2 or 3 political issues that are important to you.
Through research from 4 or more sources (including each candidate’s major website and a source that is critical of the candidate), present the individual’s position on each of these issues, as well as their past experience in dealing with it, if applicable. Indicate your view of strengths and weaknesses of the candidates’ views. If there is a factor that is not related to the issues but that you consider extremely important in evaluating a candidate, you need to include it. (For example, if you feel that a candidate has no chance of winning but would hurt the chances of a candidate who would be an acceptable choice, this could be a factor.) Thesis-question for the conclusion: On the basis of your judgment of the findings, if only these two candidates were running, which one would you vote for in the November election? Why?
    Research requirements:
a minimum of 4 sources (Quote directly from each source between 2 and 5 times.)
1 source (of the 4) from a licensed subscription data base
    Quotation in every body paragraph
correct in-text citations for quotes and close paraphrases
a Works Cited with all sources

  • “Growing Together: A Community Garden Proposal for Downtown Phoenix’s Tent City” “Improving Neighborhood Socioeconomics and Infrastructure: A Proposal for Homewood, Pittsburgh”

This research paper but made into a STORY MAP and it is diving deep into my proposal which is implemented into a neighborhood of my choice. That neighborhood is in downtown Phoenix. The neighborhood is “Downtown Phoenix’s Tent City”. So for my proposal I wanted to implement a community garden in the area which would at the end of the day help the homeless in many ways. For the proposal that i had to submitthis is what I mentioned.
. Why this city? Why this neighborhood/intersection/area? Phoenix, Arizona stands as a pivotal city for this research proposal due to its substantial homeless population and intense urban heat island effects. The city has been experiencing significant growth, which, while beneficial in some aspects, has exacerbated socioeconomic disparities and environmental stress. A community garden in the homeless community neighborhood, particularly around the intersection of 12th Avenue and Jefferson Street, could offer considerable benefits. This area is notable for its high concentration of homeless shelters and services, making it a strategic location for community based interventions.
    2. Demographics, Built Landscape, and Economic Base: The target area is characterized by a high density of underutilized land and abandoned lots, surrounded by low income housing and homeless shelters. The demographic profile of this area primarily includes homeless individuals and low income families, many of whom face challenges such as unemployment or underemployment. The economic base of the area is relatively weak, with few job opportunities available locally, particularly those that offer livable wages without requiring advanced education or specialized training.
    4. Purpose of the Community Garden: The primary goal of the community garden is to provide both a sustainable source of nutritious food and therapeutic space for the homeless and economically disadvantaged residents. Additionally, the garden would serve as a community hub, fostering social cohesion, offering educational opportunities about nutrition and farming, and potentially providing some residents with volunteer or even paid work opportunities
    4. Challenges in the Realm of Justice, Sustainability, and Diversity (JSD)
    ●  Justice: There is a significant lack of access to healthy food options and recreational spaces, which perpetuates health disparities among the homeless and low income residents.
    ●  Sustainability: The area suffers from environmental degradation and a lack of green spaces, which contributes to severe urban heat and poor air quality.
    ●  Diversity: Economic and racial inequalities are pronounced, with a large portion of the homeless population being people of color who have limited access to essential services.
    Final Project
All sources must be cited appropriately, using APA, Chicago, or MLA formatting
A complete bibliography must be included
You should use at least 8 sources for your project; at least 5 of these must be scholarly sources
Be sure to proofread and edit the document
Most projects will be 1200-1600 words of text.  People write differently.  Don’t “fluff” up to reach 1200 words – if you have covered everything well, you’re done.  Similarly if your essay is longer, don’t edit out critical information to get down to 1600 words (but do edit out redundant or irrelevant text).
    Evaluation of the project:
(15%)   Your understanding of JSD is clear and the links to the concerns of the 3 Es are clearly laid out in your proposed project (B) or your project comparison (C) or provides the context for your discussion of the book.  Please note that ChatGPT believes that JSD refers to something that has nothing to do with this class.
(15%)   Your final project or review is clearly linked to course material and concepts we have covered this semester.
(20%)   Your final project or review is well-organized with supporting images where appropriate; sources, including images, are correctly cited (in-text and in the bibliography); your text is free of typos
(20%)  Context:  for “B” you have a rich description of the neighborhood and its place in the city, including a clear discussion of socioecononomics and infrastructure.  Maps and tables are appropriate here.
This is what was posted by my professor.
This proposal should focus on a specific site and include specific recommendations that address the problems you have outlined in your introduction. For instance, you would not attempt to address air pollution in Pittsburgh. Instead, you would focus on a specific neighborhood, such as Homewood, and identify the challenges facing the area. You would then outline the specifics of a pregram that could address some of these challenges. For instance, if you are proposing a community garden, you would show where you would locate it, who would benefit and how (what are the demographics of the immediate neighborhhood? how will people get there? What challenges it would address (where are supermarkets and corner stores located? What do we know about public health in the neighborhood? Would this also address a lack of green space in the neighbohood? I stransportation (levels of var ownership and connectivity of public transit) relevant to your proposal? Are you creating jobs?
    Including maps/data/ images

You are the project manager and need to compose an SOW for clients who want you to develop a Kickstarter.com site for their project, as discussed in the chapter.

Share your Gantt chart for the project as an attachment and as an image – discuss how a Gantt chart can improve projects that you work on.
Assume that after your clients review your SOW and Gantt chart, they request that you discount the price 20%. Based on the triple constraints, discuss how you would respond?
Use APA7 style. Cite your textbooks and cite four other sources if appropriate. Your initial post should address all components of the question with a 500 word limit.
