  • Exploring the Influence of Human Ecosystems on Sexuality: A Personal Reflection Exploring the Influence of Microsystems, Mesosystems, Ecosystems, Macrosystems, and Chronosystem on My Understanding of Sexuality

Book: Carroll, J.L. (2019). Sexuality now: Embracing diversity (6e ed.). Belmont, CA: Thomson Wadsworth. Connect three topics from book to paper APA citations AAFCS and the book of Knowledge (BOK) Related to Sexuality in the family
Throughout your degree plan in Child and Family Sciences, you will be learning guiding principles of your professional organization. The principals will guide your professional practice when working with children can families in the “real world”. This assignment is related to the important Body of Knowledge (BOK) integrative element, Human Ecosystems. A second important Body of Knowledge (BOK) core concept is Basic Human Needs.
What Basic Human Needs are related to Sexuality?
    • Part of an individual’s basic human need is to be able to have freedom of sexual choice and action, social well-being, including self-respect, dignity, peace, harmony, and good relations with family and community, and psychological well-being, including peace of mind, happiness.
How does the Human Ecosystem influence our sexuality?
    • The body of knowledge ties individuals, families, and communities together through the family ecosystem theoretical model. Ecosystems within which families function include: (a) families, (b) the physical environment of space and the natural environment, (c) the human-built environment of housing, constructed facilities and equipment, and the application of technology to materials from the natural environment, and (d) the social regulatory environment comprised of the non-material culture, religion, and educational, political, legal/judicial, economic, and social systems. All the ecosystems influence our sexual values, beliefs, perceptions, expectations, and behaviors.
Bronfenbrenner’s Bioecological Theory must be used for the Analysis paper (Components are integrated, using APA citations, into the paper with understanding). You will also incorporate what you have been learning in class and use your textbook to include APA citations to support your connection with the course material and your experiences. The following questions are meant to guide your writing. Choose topics that are the most relevant to you and the environment you grew up in. If any of these questions do not apply to you or you are uncomfortable responding to them in your narrative, please feel free to not answer those questions. Papers should be a minimum of 2 pages.
    • What are some of the messages you received (from your microsystem) about such topics as masturbation, premarital sex, extramarital sex, heterosexuality, homosexuality, transgender persons, the role of men and women (both in and out of bed), birth control, abortion? For any additional topic you find of interest, please check with the professor first.
    • What are some of the messages you have received about which sexual activities are permitted and which are not? Of the permitted sexual activities, when are they permitted and when are they not permitted? According to these messages, are there times non-permitted activities are permitted?
    • What was your experience of sex education (from all sources)? Who or what institution(s) do you believe have been the most influential in your understandings of sexuality?
    • In what ways do you believe such things as your age, gender, religion, and socioeconomic status influence how you view and express sexuality?
    • If you were experiencing sexual issues within your relationship would you consider seeing a sex therapist? Why or why not? What personal values and messages from society, peers, family, etc. have impacted your view regarding sex therapy?
Assignment Details – You should have each of the following as a HEADER – See SAMPLE PAPER

Do you think the time your parents/grandparents grew up has had an impact on what they have taught you about sex and sexuality? How have your views about sex and sexuality changed throughout your life cycle? Were there any specific events that occurred that had an impact on how you view sex and sexuality?

  • Title: The Chase Report: Exploring Entrepreneurial Initiatives in the Field of [Student’s Bachelor Degree]

    2. Individual work: The Chase Report
A key takeaway from this class is to think entrepreneurially and to develop a mindset that helps you identify and discover new customer needs and wants as sources of entrepreneurial opportunity.
Students will also do this with The Chase: an exercise to find interesting entrepreneurial initiatives around the world. You are expected to:
Identify a new and interesting entrepreneurial initiative that comes from the domain or field of expertise of your bachelor degree (international relations, law, design, behavioral sciences, economics, computer science, business…)
This entrepreneurial initiative could be a new venture, an internal project in an existing company, a new project in the public sector, an NGO, a foundation, etc… but it must be less than 4 years old.
Write and submit  a report (maximum 2 pages).
The main objective of the report is that you reflect on specific situations of the story of that initiative (e.g., how they explored the problem, created the idea, created the team, validated the solution, defined the business model, executed the go-to-market strategy, raised funds…) and connect them with concrete and relevant concepts and situations seen during the course. These concepts could have appeared in cases, workshops, readings, simulations, slides, something discussed in class, coaching, deliverables…). This assignment aims to encourage reflection about how the concepts covered during the course and creativity, therefore the structure is completely open and you can comment on what you consider most relevant.
Any type of initiative, including both successful and unsuccessful ones, can be a source of interesting insights and can be the subject of this “Chase”.
Students are encouraged (not required) to use the first 10 minutes of each session to comment on “The Chase”. In this way, the individual discoveries will be shared in the class and can serve to improve the participation grade. The sooner you start thinking about and working on your Chase, the more likely you are to share your findings with the class. You can do so from Session 3 onward.
This exercise is a brief report: focus on quality, not quantity; demonstrate knowledge as well as critical and original thinking about the course topics. If applicable, students are welcome to use personal experience for this exercise.
