Now that you have had a chance to listen to several “Just So” Stories, and have taken some time to look at he PDF and taken note of the patterns and how Kipling uses language to craft his bedtime stories. You will be crafting one of your own “Just So” stories”
Remember that these are origin stories as well as Bedtime Stories, so they are both explanations for the creation of something as well as a lesson to be learned. So when you begin to write your own story, be sure you are picking your subject with care and thoughtfulness. Also remember that you can look further afield or deeper into your own culture for the basis of your story.
You must mimic Kipling’s form and use of language, but do not be afraid to make it your own. Be sure you also keep in mind that this is a bedtime story for children, so express yourself with the care with which you would approach a child. This does not mean that the lesson you are teaching must be a simple one, but it does have to be put in a way that a child can understand. Also note that he does not dumb down his vocabulary, but he does use it in a way that adds to the meaning, rather than adding to confusion.
There is no specific length for this assignment, but always remember that if you do a minimal job, you will receive a minimal grade.
It must also be in MLA format.
Be create! Be thoughtful! Have Fun!
