  • Title: Decolonization and Cross-Cultural Solidarity: Examining Philosophical Concepts and Strategies

    (Part 1): 6 short answer questions AND
    (Part 2): one take-home essay. The exam will cover material from the midterm to the end of the course.
    Part 1 – Choose 6 out of the 7 philosophical concepts to answer. Each answer should roughly be around 350-500 words. Do not use quotes in your answer.     Part 2 – Take Home questions: (100 points)
    Please choose ONE of the following essay questions. The essay should consist of 3-5 pages. Cite accordingly (Author, p. #) i.e. (Callicott, 28). Please follow the standard format of essays (1 inch margins, double-space, 12 point font).  Answers to the essays will be graded on (1) the degree of familiarity with and in depth understanding of the details of the readings as evidenced in your answers; (2) quality of philosophical argument and degree to which you consider the opposing viewpoint to your own; (3) clarity of organization and expression.
    Histories of colonization play a role in the formation of our identity. Utilizing at least two authors from the last half of the course (Tuck&Yang, David, Saranillio, Kauanui, Clarke-Sullivan), articulate the tension colonization has had on identity and how one can develop a strategy of decolonization. In your response, consider how authors you have chosen provide a reasonable account of “choice” plays a role in decolonization.
    There were many strategies we covered in the last section of the course that addresses issues of cross-cultural solidarity. Defend one strategy from Ahmed, Roshranravan, Bardwell-Jones, Saranillio, Bailey or Sullivan-Clarke. Choose at least one author (from the list above) to help support your argument. In what ways does the strategy aim to develop cross-cultural, cross-racial solidarities in order to transform communities?

    this is a final paper that I have do in my English class. I have already completed two other essays in which need to be combined in order to complete my 3rd and final essay. Any sources used must be ones I have already cited within my paper but the information from each source can be different from the ones previously used. Teachers instructions for the final essay:
    Your Title: The title of your essay is the first point of contact you have with your reader. What sort of title would describe your paper and distinguish it from other papers written on the same essay?
    Example: Education for All
    The paper can be divided into 5 sections.
    Section I: Your Introduction: (1-2 Paragraphs)
    A. Has an attention grabber/hook
    B. Briefly describes the topic/problem.
    C. Makes clear how the problem concerns the audience.
    D. Emphasizes why the time to address the problem is now.
    E. Provides background on the issue and why it matters
    F. States an explicit claim in a definitional thesis statement
    Section II: Defining the Problem (Your Essay’s Body 3 Paragraphs) 
    A. Outline the major reasons that x is y (Topic Sentences). Each topic sentence makes a point that helps define your issue as an important problem. 
    B. Connect the reasons to the thesis statement via transition words with your topic sentences.
    C. Present illustrations, evidence, and examples in the form of summary and paraphrase with few quotes from your sources. 
    E. Evidence is comprised of facts and figures, direct quotations, brief narratives, statistics, testimony and so on from your sources. Evidence provided is from two or more different sources. You want to blend your research in an original way, not summarize or represent one source.
    F. Paragraphs should contain your commentary to elaborate on the evidence and connect it back to the body point and/or the thesis
    G. In other words, establish logos by supplying a well-reasoned, well-supported, well-organized argument via strong body paragraphs.
    Section III: Counterargument & Transition Paragraph (Your Essay’s Body 2 Paragraphs) 
    A.  Includes a counter argument paragraph that acknowledges, rebuts, or refutes opposing viewpoints (aka others may not think this issue is a problem or important, AND your job is to address that in some manner).
    B. Includes a TRANSITION PARAGRAPH –A clear shift to your current solutions and proposed solution/s. Emphasizes why the time to address the problem is now. States an explicit expository thesis statement (i.e. there are solutions to the problem)
    Section IV: Current Solutions/Proposed BEST Solution (Your Essay’s Body 3 Paragraphs) 
    A. Outline three possible solutions to your chosen problem with the third solution being presented as the best choice of the three.Include needed background as well as an evaluation of the merits of each potential solution. 
    B. Connect the solutions to the definitional thesis statement via transition words with your topic sentences.
    C. Present illustrations, evidence, and examples in the form of summary and paraphrase with few quotes from your sources.

    D. Create a call to action by answering the question, “So what?” Why should your audience care about your argument? (AKA what can your audience do to make these solutions a reality)

  • “Weekly Exercise Reflection: Recorded Yoga Classes” In Class #13: I enjoyed the slow pace of the class and the focus on deep stretches. The poses that I particularly enjoyed were the seated forward fold and the pigeon pose, as they helped to release

    Part of the requirements of this class is exercise. As the Catalog Description states, “A combination of physical activity and lecture providing regular exercise to develop physical fitness.” You are required to exercise 3 times per week.
    Each week I will provide 3 recorded yoga classes so you can exercise at home at your convenience. Each class is approximately 35-50 minutes long. When you have completed all three classes you will submit your answers to the following questions.
    What did you enjoy about each of the three classes? Please designate each class. For example, in Class #1: I enjoyed the feeling of relaxation after I was done taking the class. I enjoyed the shoulder stretches because I have limited movement in my shoulders. I had a difficult time with the one-legged balance. You may discuss specific poses and exercises that you experienced in each of the videos. You will say something about each class. Please talk specifically about the classes so I know you are practicing along with each video.
    What was difficult about the class, or did anything hurt? Be specific. For example, in Class #1: I can’t sit cross-legged on the floor. Is there another way I can complete the exercise without my legs hurting? That way I can help. You may also ask a question and I will answer your question in the comments area when I grade your weekly exercise assignment. Submit your assignment at the end of each module/week.
