Purpose
This assignment will deepen your understanding of the normal aging process and ways to make changes in the environment to compensate for these.
Directions
After reading the chapter, watching the videos, and doing the Learning Curves, write an essay that is at least 500 words naming three age related sensory/motor changes and ways to slow progression or improve the quality of life despite these changes for each of these.
Submission:
Save this assignment on your computer as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf.
This assignment is worth 20 points.
The essay will be graded based on the incorporation of at least 3 chapter concepts concerning age-related declines and proposed environmental supports, and the quality of writing.
Additionally, assignments are always graded on the quality of writing. You are encouraged to spell check and proofread your work as poor writing will result in up to a 10% (2 pt) grade reduction.
Written assignments require both in-text citation and full references. This is how you let the reader know where you obtained your information. Quoted material and paraphrased material require the use of in-text citation and full reference. For assistance with this requirement, please see the APA formatting link in Module 00. Failure to include proper citations will result in a 10% grade reduction (2 points) on the assignment.

“The Impact of Childhood Trauma on Immigrant Children: Understanding and Addressing Language Barriers and Cultural Differences”
You will combine one life stage (Column
A) and one social issue (Column B) from the below columns to engage in the discussion of a social phenomenon and apply a theory to make sense of this phenomenon.
Column A Column B
Infancy Incarceration
Early Childhood IPV/Sexual Assault
Middle Childhood Addiction
Adolescence Work Oppression
Young Adulthood Trauma
Middle Adulthood Homelessness, Housing Insecurity
Late Adulthood Ability/Disability
Very Late Adulthood Poverty/Hoarding wealth
Death, Dying, Grief or Loss
For example, your paper could be on the experience of (a) sexual assault in young adulthood, (b) disability in very late adulthood, or (c) grief in adolescence. Once you have selected a combination that interests you, you will locate a theory that can help you understand the phenomenon you are describing and/or help you understand how to support those who it affects. You will then thoroughly describe this theory and thoughtfully apply it to the phenomenon. The paper will include the following sections:
1. Introduction (2 points): a brief description of what you will argue in your paper and how this argument will be organized (make sure to include a clear plan or “roadmap” for the paper, telling your reader what you will do);
2. Description of Phenomenon (8 points): a description of the phenomenon you are interested in exploring. Use at least four empirical references in this section and address the following questions (when applicable) in your description:
1. How common is this phenomenon?
2. How is it different in this life stage than in other life stages?
3. Who is most at risk of experiencing this phenomenon (when applicable)?
4. How does the social environment contribute to this phenomenon?
5. How has this phenomenon changed over time (ex. for different generations, historical events)?
3. Description and Application of Theory (8 points): a description of a theory that can help you understand or treat this phenomenon and the application of this theory. Use at least four empirical sources in this section and address the following questions (when applicable) in your description/application:
1. How is this theory described?
2. Who established this theory? When? Why?
3. How do you use it to understand this phenomenon?
4. How can this theory help us intervene and support those experiencing this phenomenon?
5. What are the gaps in this theory?
4. Conclusion (2 points): a short wrap-up and summary of the most important points made in your paper.
Please include section headers in your paper and be mindful of the fact you will also be graded on writing, editing, and APA formatting (5 points). This paper should be submitted via Blackboard due Session 12 by 5 pm. A minimum of 5 peer-reviewed articles are required to support your work.

“Comprehensive Analysis of Key Concepts in Social Psychology” “Improving Writing Skills: Addressing Common Errors in Course Content Analysis”
These are comprehensive questions. A response should take at least 2-3 paragraphs per question (this is a minimum expectation). However, this is a minimum, and you will more than likely need to write more than 3 paragraphs to fully answer a question.
Your response must be written in Microsoft Word, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font, black font, and in APA format. The use of APA format is judged on relevance, not citation, for citation’s sake. Edit your work before submitting it.
You are required to use proper APA 7th edition citations (both references and in-text) to support your answers. There are no set minimum/maximum sources that you need to use. You will be assessed by the quality of the source, citing when needed, and how well you integrate information into your answer.
Keep in mind the maximum 15% similarity score for your submission. This excludes the reference section and title page but includes all direct quotes and paraphrased material.

Grading Rubric
25-22.5 points on a question: Main ideas are clear and well supported by detailed and accurate information (in-depth discussion, in several sentences or ideas, are presented). Information is relevant and presented in logical order and there is no doubt the student learned the material. There is very strong evidence the student knows that material. Most or all the paragraphs are in the appropriate length (5-10 sentences). Most or all the sentences are well constructed and have isolated errors in grammar, mechanics, and/or spelling. The answer is clear and there is very strong evidence the student studied and knows the material and can use the information learned. Consistent use of appropriate, legal, and relevant sources, both internal and external, of the class. Answers adhere to the assignment instructions, including the number of paragraphs per question, format expectations, and APA format.

The answer to the question is there but not very clear, but there is strong evidence the student knows the answer. The knowledge of the answer (topic) is evident and demonstrated in several instances, but it is too general. Most sentences are well constructed. Most paragraphs are in the appropriate length (5-10 sentences). Writing has a few errors in grammar, mechanics, and/or spelling, but they do not interfere with understanding. “Examining the Debate Between Nozick and Rawls on Justice: A Critical Analysis of Their Arguments”
It is of primary importance that you carefully read each part of the instructions, so you understand what to do. I have tried my best to make it very clear. Note: You will be taking either Nozick’s position or Rawls’ position in your essay. And you will need to grasp and discuss in detail their arguments in the essay. You need to be clear on this. It is not a “write anything you want/feel” essay. It is, in part, checking your ability to read arguments; and then grasp, and articulate your reasoning on this issue, using two opposing viewpoints that have stood the test of time, and are worth considering.
I cannot overemphasize this: I expect you to have read the relevant chapters, watched the PP presentations, and to have read the online article noted in the instructions. I expect you to follow the instructions I have given. If you do not do so, the result will be catastrophic for your grade on the assignment.
The instructions for the essay are found in 3 separate documents in this week’s Module. Take one at a time, and make sure you read, understand, and follow the instructions as I’ve given them. Please ask if you need further clarifications.
