In at least 500 words, please write an essay to the President about
developing a global strategy for promoting nuclear disarmament with North Korea
and other nations. Your essay should specifically address the following
questions:
1) What is the stated goal of the U.S. Defense strategy? Is it to deter
nuclear build up among all nations, only allow the U.S. to possess nuclear
armaments, or specifically force North Korea to eliminate its weapons programs?
As Secretary of Defense you can shape U.S. policy on nuclear weapons in any way
you would like. But You must make your objective clear.
2) Based on what you’ve learned about international relations, how would you
recommend organizing governments from other nations as well as other
international organizations (IGOs, NGOs, the UN, etc.) to help you achieve your
primary objective?
3) Specifically describe how you might use international political economy
to achieve your objective? For instance, what role could the IMF, World Bank,
or other global economic forces play within your strategy? Again, you can
provide any viewpoint you like but be as specific and detailed as you can be.
Remember: you are advising the President of the United States!

“Optimizing Dijkstra’s Algorithm for Efficient Map Routing”
(See the attached pdf for complete details)
Map Routing:
Implement the classic Dijkstra’s shortest path algorithm and optimize it for maps. Such algorithms are widely used in geographic information systems (GIS) including MapQuest and GPS-based car navigation systems.
Your goal:
Optimize Dijkstra’s algorithm so that it can process thousands of shortest path queries for a given map. Once you read in (and optionally preprocess) the map, your program should solve shortest path problems in sublinear time. One method would be to precompute the shortest path for all pairs of vertices; however you cannot afford the quadratic space required to store all of this information. Your goal is to reduce the amount of work involved per shortest path computation, without using excessive space. We suggest a number of potential ideas below which you may choose to implement. Or you can develop and implement your own ideas.
You need to implement 2 improvement ideas, in order to get full points on the coding part. If you come up with your own ideas, you will get extra credits. (up to 10 points)

“Advocating for Change: A Policy Fact Sheet and Recorded Testimony on [Title of Bill]”
PART C: FACT SHEET AND RECORDED TESTIMONY, 250 POINTS, 25% OF THE FINAL GRADE, DUE 24 HOURS BEFORE WEEK 9 LIVE SESSION
The purpose of this assignment is to succinctly set forth and justify a policy position in writing and verbally. You will create a one-page fact sheet that condenses the information in your policy memo from Part B and you will deliver oral testimony to help persuade legislators to vote for or against the bill you analyzed. Because this section has only 90 minutes of live session time, you will deliver your oral testimony through a video recording that you will post to the Testimony discussion board at least 24 hours prior to the start of your assigned live session. Live session discussion time will include instructor and student questions and feedback about your testimony.
Assignment 3: Part C: Policy Fact Sheet and Testimony
POLICY FACT SHEET AND TESTIMONY
The fact sheet and oral testimony will offer opportunities for students to practice short, concise communication strategies for sharing their policy analysis with legislative, media, and/or general audiences.
Fact Sheet Audience: Legislators, Advocacy groups/organizations, Members of the press
Assignment type: Fact sheet
References should be provided as footnotes
A social worker must have the ability to succinctly set forth and justify a position in writing, condensing hours of research, thought, and pages of background material into a one-page fact sheet. This assignment will help you develop that skill. It will also help inform the class about the social problems and policy responses you analyzed for this assignment. Prepare a one-page fact sheet about the bill. You may use both sides of the paper, including references and contact information. It is appropriate to use lists, graphics, and headers with short, concise statements–not lengthy paragraphs.
Testimony Audience: Legislators
Assignment type: Video recorded presentation
Reference expectations: Cite relevant sources for your argument in your oral presentation
To be effective as an advocate, a social worker must have the ability to succinctly set forth and justify a position verbally, attempting to persuade listeners to make a certain choice. The primary purpose of providing recorded testimony is to help you develop this skill.
Prepare and present testimony that would help persuade legislators to vote for or against the bill you selected for your Memo assignment. Your testimony must be written out in advance and should be of the caliber of a presentation to a legislative committee; your dress and presentation, even if recorded, should be reflective of this expectation. Deliver your testimony in a video recording in less than 3 minutes. Speak clearly, without rushing. Because this class has only 90 minutes of live session time, you will deliver your oral testimony through a video recording that you will post to the Testimony discussion board at least 24 hours prior to the start of your assigned live session. Live session discussion time will include instructor and student questions and feedback about your testimony. -
