    Turnitin™
This assignment will be submitted to Turnitin™.
    Instructions
    Course Objectives:
CO4: Evaluate and analyze various forms of argument for rhetorical devices, fallacies, and possible pseudo-reasoning. (Evaluate)
CO5: Create an argument free from logical errors. (Create)
    Description:
For this assignment, you will use MS PowerPoint to present your final argument utilizing one of the three forms covered in the class (Classic/Aristotelian, Toulmin, or Rogerian).
After a catchy title slide, you will present your introduction paragraph on slide 2. This should be the same introduction produced in week 5, but with some tweaking based on instructor feedback.
Then, you will add at least one slide for each of the components of that type of argument. For example, if you choose the Classical argument, you will need at least one slide labeled for each component: Statement of the Background, Position, Proof, and Refutation. Be sure you see the lesson on Refutations.
You are NOT pasting a paper into the slides. Doing so will cost points for not following directions.
Each slide should have several bullets providing your best points for each component. Those bullets are then explained in the notes as commentary or in the transcript for any dialogue should you choose to narrate the presentation.
Be sure to include citations of scholarly resources either on the slides or in the notes (or both) and a final slide or two with APA or MLA formatted references.
Convince me that your position on your topic is the right one!
    Consider the following:
Have fun with this assignment and be creative!
Be sure you understand your type of argument and how refutations work.
If you need an alternative format, please contact your instructor immediately.
    – For grading expectations, please see the Final Argument Presentation Rubric.

  • Title: “Building a Healthier Future: A Structural Intervention for K-12 Students in Mexico”

Design a structural intervention outside of the United States to either a) reduce a health problem or b) increase a healthy behavior.
Describe the specific community you are targeting
The type of structural level intervention you would use (e.g., availability, acceptability, accessibility).
What your intervention would look like in practice?
    How you would measure success?
    Example response:
    1. Describe the specific community you are targeting
My ideal intervention would be targeted towards K-12 students in Mexico’s school system. I am generalizing because I am not fully aware of the current situation in between the various different states within Mexico, I would make sure to remain educated in regards to their relationships with
one another as well as their overall health and well being in order to ensure fair and proper allocation of resources. Ideally, I would wish to target states with higher rates of poverty, chronic illness, and mortality rates.
    2. The type of structural level intervention you would use (e.g., availability, acceptability, accessibility).
I would say that availability is my main goal/priority in terms of structure for this intervention. My goal is to expand the availability of resources for those communities whose overall health and well-being are greatly affected by the lack of tools and settings. By measuring our allocation
of resources and ensuring that such resources are consistently being offered, we can ensure that this intervention will provide excellent results in the long-run!
    3. What your intervention would look like in practice?
My intervention consists of three different phases, all conducted at different ages/grade levels that best pertain to human development. Given how kids spend a big portion of their time at school, I believe that incorporating my intervention into their curriculum would be the easiest
and most efficient way of making sure every individual has access to such resources. My proposed phases consist of the following:
    ● Phase #1 (Kinder-3rd grade) –
    ○ Students will be taught basic/core food identification.
    ○ Students will be taught the importance and benefits of daily playtime.
    ● Phase #2 (4th-6th grade) –
    ○ Students will undergo more interactive learning (similar to myplate.gov).
    ○ Physical education classes will be implemented into their daily schedules.
    ○ Students will be offered health and wellness workshops with professional
    speakers monthly.
    ○ Student-led projects and presentations will be encouraged to demonstrate mastery
    and establish consistency.
    ● Phase #3 (7th-12th grade) –
    ○ Students will be offered a variety of fitness courses that will help them learn
    different ways to remain active.
    ○ Sports programs will begin to be implemented at schools.
    ○ Students will be offered cooking classes to ensure proper nutrition and safe food
    handling.
Considering that the older children may not have gone through such interventions and assuming no previous knowledge, I think that offering workshops that cover some core content from phases #1-3 at no cost to the community will be greatly beneficial.
    4. How you would measure success?
A part of my intervention would consist of ensuring consistent medical check-ups, so I believe that results would be reflecting at a more long-term scale. Given how many individuals with Hispanic/Latinx backgrounds are known to develop chronic diseases (e.g. Mexicans being prone
to diabetes), routine testing would help with tracking and it would come to show whether or not

  • Title: “Cultural Stagnation and Progression: Understanding the Singular Cause and Multiple Effects” “Globalization and Cultural Stagnation: The Impact of Global Forces on Society” “Globalization and Cultural Stagnation: Examining the Impact of Singular Causes and Effects”

    Prompt:
Defining history of singular cause or singular effect
The primary goal of Essay 1 is to establish a comprehensive understanding of your chosen subject. This involves defining the central topic, delving into the underlying issue, providing historical context, and conducting a thorough analysis of either a single cause with multiple effects, or a single effect with multiple causes. Do not pick both.
A cause is something that produces an issue (creates problem; antecedent).
An effect is what results from an issue (consequences; aftermath).
Select an individual research topic that addresses the concept of cultural stagnation (CS). Cultural stagnation encompasses instances of social injustice, including civil unrest, marginalization, and inequality within specific communities, leading to a cultural standstill (metaphorical quicksand). This issue often goes unnoticed by the media, which might not fully cover or even address the problem. Consider cultures or communities that are suffering due to the absence of equal rights and access to goods and services.
Your chosen topic must provide the scope to discuss cultural progression (CP) in Essay 5, separate from Essays 1, 2, 3 and 4. Cultural progression should encompass both practical and idealistic solutions, as well as logically sound compromises.
Essay 1 should not discuss counterarguments and oppositions nor solutions (which you will cover in later essays).
Keep in mind that you will be composing four mini essays centered around a single individual research topic, which can ultimately be arranged into a final research paper ranging from 15 to 20 pages (equivalent to 4,500 to 6,000 words) by the end of the semester.
When selecting a topic, conduct preliminary research to assess the availability of relevant information to support your research essay. Additionally, explore the diverse positions that past writers have taken on similar topics. Understanding the spectrum of possible responses is beneficial before formulating your own stance.
Your topic is debatable, encompassing a minimum of four viewpoints (perspective and angles surrounding topic). It should also possess complexity and the potential to yield credible research. If you find that conducting credible research, involving data from varied sources, is unattainable, you will need to choose an alternative topic. Research is not linear; it is a process of trail and error.
Choose a topic that empowers you as a student, writer, researcher, and critical thinker. Think strategically about the knowledge and growth you will gain during the research process.
How will your work empower not only your readers and audience but also those who may not be directly impacted by the issue you’ve chosen?
What unique insights can you provide that readers cannot simply Google and comprehend within a minute?
You are encouraged to draw from the topic you submitted for approval during your Pre-Outline assignment in Week 1, but you’re not limited to this choice.”
    Assignment Details

How will your individual research topic define cultural stagnation and cultural progression?

  • Title: The Process of Canonization and the Evolution of Religious Traditions

Instructions: Choose two of the following prompts and write an essay on each of them.
Each essay should be a minimum of 750 words and a maximum of 1000 words. For all
questions, be sure to use specific examples from the textbook and course notes.
NOTE: You may not focus on the same religious tradition in both questions. In other words,
if you choose to compare Christianity and Islam in question 1, then you should not write
about either Christianity or Islam in your second response.
    Questions
    1. Many religions have sacred texts that eventually get organized into a canon. Why is the
process of canonization so important to understand? Choose any two of the religious
traditions that we looked at in the course and compare and contrast their canonization
    processes.
    2. Many New Religious Movements are derived from existing traditions. What themes
unite the new religious movements rooted in Eastern traditions? How do these
concerns compare with the central themes expressed in the new religious movements
    based in the Abrahamic tradition?
    3. Throughout the course, we’ve talked about the difficulties in establishing definitions
    and categories. Explain some of these challenges when talking about “religion” broadly;
why is there no universally agreed-upon definition for religion and how can this be
mitigated? Then, think the terms “new religion,” “sect,” and “cult.” Why is it sometimes
difficult to distinguish between these three terms? Provide one example of each and
explain why you’ve classified it that way.
    4. The different understandings of a possible life after death reflect the cultural values and
historical circumstances out of which they arose. Compare and contrast different
understandings of the afterlife in any two of religious traditions that we examined in
the course in the light of their respective cultural and historical circumstances.
    5. Choose either Judaism, Christianity, Islam, or Indigenous Traditions and discuss the role
of women in this tradition. How has the role and place of women in your chosen
tradition/culture changed over time? What issues regarding gender and sexuality are
currently being considered within the community? Be sure to consider how gender
appears in the sacred texts/stories and whether/how women appear in leadership
    roles.
    6. All religious traditions change over time. Choose either Judaism, Christianity, Islam, or
Indigenous Traditions and compare the ancient practices to modern ones. How are the
ancient and modern practices related? What historical developments are important for
analyzing the transition between the ancient and modern periods in your chosen
    tradition?
