News stories are written in the Inverted Pyramid format. Stories are organized arranging factual information from most important to least important. This is very different from how we write in an English course. Journalism use what we call the 5Ws or who, what, when, where, and why. But, there is another element that is sometimes included is the elusive “H” or how an event is covered.
For this assignment, you will be examining how a particular event was covered.
You will need to select a local, state, national or international news story to analyze. You can use a physical newsprint story, an online news article, news broadcast video, or social media news source. In fact, you must use and cite 3 different sources. You can analyze how the sources covered a global event (like global warming, economics, women’s rights, social justice, etc.) or you can look at a more targeted event (like changes in South Florida like sea level rise, local elections, school zoning, labor strikes, the environment, etc.). The news event that you choose is up to you. If you do decide on a local focus, you should use different local news outlets.
Select a local, state, national, or international event/news story to analyze.
Find 3 or more media outlets that covered the same event.
Make sure the coverage between the mediums is within 7-10 days.
Think critically about how the different news organizations covered the event. How much space or time did the organization use? Was it a top story in all three? Who did they quote? Did they use the same quotes or information?
Instructions
Write a 500-word paper using the Writing Assignment Organizer analyzing how the three media outlets covered the same event.
Include the elements of who, what, when, and where, why, but focus on the how.
Use and refer to the media literacy skill of analysis (defined above) in your work.
Conduct auxiliary research if necessary to define and/or clarify your points.
Produce an analysis and not just simply summarize the information. How can what you found be utilized by media consumers?
Use 12 pt. Times Roman typeface.
DO NOT ignore or write OVER the word count! Assignments that go over the word count will lose 10% of the final grade. (See rubric below). Word counts will be checked. Please put your word count at the bottom of the paper.
Review Working With Turnitin for submission information, similarity scores, AI detection and how to view your feedback and grades.
Don’t forget to include a reference page at the end of the reaction paper. Visit The Roughwriter’s Guide APA References Page by Dr. Karen Palmer for correct format.
Late assignments will not be accepted, and technical difficulties ARE NOT an acceptable excuse for late work. If you experience technical issues, contact Canvas Technical Support.
It is the policy of this course that plagiarism is NOT allowed. Assignments that have a Turnitin Similarity score higher than 25% will automatically receive a “0”. Make sure to check your similarity score prior to submission.

“Developing a Research Question and Analyzing Levels of Measurement in Nursing Research”
What is the incidence of blood clots from COVID-19 in females over the age of 35?
The above question is an example of a research question. A research question consists of three parts and guides the methods and approaches in which you will study the question to find answers. The research question includes: the question, the topic, and the population or variables. In the example provided above, the question is examining the prevalence of blood clots from severe COVID-19 in a selected population. From this question, the variables can be assessed, considerations can be analyzed, and populations can be sampled in order to guide the research.
During Week 2, you developed a research problem statement based on a topic of interest to you or your specific area of practice. Using this research problem statement, you will develop a research question. “A research question is a concise, interrogative statement that is worded in the present tense and includes one or more of a study’s principal concepts or variables” (Gray & Grove, 2020). These questions typically point to the type of study that will be conducted and serves as a guide for the research.
For this Discussion, reflect on your research problem statement. Consider the independent and dependent variables of your research problem through the construction of a research question. Reflect on the potential levels of measurement for your variables and the rationale for the labels, as well as consider the advantages and challenges that you might experience in the statistical analysis of your proposed variables.
Review your research problem statement from Week 2 to develop your research question.
Review the Learning Resources on how to describe variables.
Consider the levels of measurement for your variables: nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio.
After reviewing your research question and considering the levels of measurement, analyze your classification for each variable. What was behind your reasoning for labeling the variables? How might the data be analyzed based on these labels?
Consider advantages and challenges that you might encounter in the statistical analysis of your proposed variables.
Post your research question and describe the independent and dependent variables. Then, identify the level of measurement of both your independent and dependent variables. Provide a brief rationale for your classification of each variable. Be specific. Explain considerations of analyzing data related to each variable based on its level of measurement. Be sure to include any advantages or challenges that you might encounter in your statistical analysis of each variable and explain why.
Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses and respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days by noting any discrepancies and/or suggesting alternatives in the levels of measurement and statistical analyses described.

Title: School Budget Planning for Grades K-12
Grades K-5
The building enrollment is 545 students. Grades K-2 have 80 students for each grade; the student-teacher ratio to be maintained for each grade is 20:1. Grade 3 has 92 students, grade 4 has 96 students, and grade 5 has 117 students. The student-teacher ratio to be maintained at the grades 3-5 level is 25:1. This will give you the number of teachers you will need for the regular education classes. Also take into consideration for your building one special subject teacher for each of the following: art, music, and physical education. In addition, budget for three special education teachers and a guidance counselor as well.
Grades 6-8
The building enrollment is 565 students. Grade 6 has 210 students, grade 7 has 174, and grade 8 has 181. To determine the number of homeroom teachers required, use a ratio of 25:1. Also keep in mind that some homeroom coverage may be done by special area teachers as well. Apply the subject areas you have in your own school, the major categories being language arts, math, social studies, science, world language, art, physical education, etc. In addition, budget for three special education teachers and a guidance counselor.
Grades 9-12 (could be the whole school or a department)
The total building enrollment is 2122, and the department enrollment is 150. Assuming you are currently in a high school, you can apply your personal experience to the development of the budget. You must maintain a student-teacher ratio of no greater than 25:1. In addition, budget for three special education teachers and a guidance counselor.
Common Assumptions for All Three Grade Configurations
Below are common assumptions for all three grade configurations in preparing the budget:
Math and science textbooks are being replaced at a cost of $100 each for all grades. 2. Professional development is $100 per teacher in your building or department.
Student supplies should be allocated at $100 per student.
Secretarial salaries should be $30,000, and there should be one secretary for every 250 students (K-8) and one secretary for every 500 students (high school). Teacher salaries used should be the average salary found on your district report card.
Administrator’s salary should also be the average from the district report card.
Include a nurse per building and use the average teacher’s salary.
Miscellaneous expense (Other Objects): Assume $50 per student regular education. For guidance and the nurse’s section, assume $10 per student. For the principal’s office, assume $25 per student.
Supplies for the guidance office, nurse’s office, and principal’s office should be the same as the miscellaneous expense.
Professional development for the guidance, nurse’s, and principal’s accounts should be the equivalent of one overnight conference at a total of $500.
