  • Pursuing Personal and Professional Goals

AA:   One goal I am working toward is completing a half marathon within the next year. This goal is moderately difficult, requiring significant physical endurance, mental resilience, and consistent training. The goal is highly specific: it is clearly defined in terms of the event (a marathon), the timeframe (within the next year), and the objective (to complete the race). Goal acceptance is high, as I have personally chosen this objective based on my interest in long-distance running and my desire to push my physical limits. I have researched the requirements and understand the commitment needed to achieve it.My commitment to this goal is strong. I have created a detailed training plan that includes incremental increases in running distance, cross-training for overall fitness, and scheduled rest days to prevent injury. By breaking down the goal into smaller, manageable milestones, I maintain focus and momentum toward achieving my ultimate objective of completing a marathon.
AR: I am currently working toward the goal of getting into law school. The specifications of this goal are taking and getting a high LSAT score, compiling letters of recommendation and a personal statement, and selecting which law school I would like to attend. The difficulty of this goal is the academic (bachelor’s degree) and standardized testing requirements (LSAT), as well as the competitiveness of law school admissions (average of 41%). I will have to spend a lot of time and effort in studying for the LSAT. The LSAT itself also costs around $250 to take.
I have accepted the challenges of preparing for the LSAT.
I am currently in LSAT preparation courses, watching YouTube tutorials, and asking legal professionals’ advice so I do good on the test.
CG: One goal that I have or trying to achieve is passing my SHRM test. It is very important to me because it will help me in my future. I currently work in HR and this will help push me to the next level. It very difficult to achieve right now while in school because it takes a lot of dedication when studying. The information is loaded that you have to learn. It takes a lot of commitment as well. I am scheduled to take the test in July but I am not sure if I am ready. I plan to have passed my SHRM test and graduate this coming December. One reason it is so important to pass now is the cost of the test. Right now, as a student I am able to get a discount on the test. Anything able is so expensive. I think with a lot of dedication and commitment I will do just fine and knock out two birds with one stone.

  • The Impact of World War I on the Liberal Political Project Thesis: The First World War marked a significant crisis for the liberal political project, as evidenced by the political and intellectual shifts that followed. One of the most important takeaways from this

In a post of 3-4 paragraphs, respond to the same prompt as the entry post, below, but using what you’ve learned in the unit to show what you’ve learned and how your thinking has evolved (note that those are not the same things). Please:
Clearly express what you consider the most important takeaways from this unit and why.
Demonstrate this with evidence from the unit, either readings or lectures, but do not use any outside sources or include information not contained in the unit.
Cite all evidence parenthetically, with lectures cited with my name and the lecture number, for example (Woolley, Lecture 1.1a) and the textbook with the page number like this (Pollard et al., 617).
Include a clear argument in your first few sentences (your thesis), and begin each paragraph with a clear topics sentence from which the content of that paragraph follows.
Follow all syllabus guidelines on academic dishonest exactly, especially regarding the use of AI-generated text.
Finally, please also respond to the post from the class that you believe is the best (besides your own) with an explanation as to WHY you chose that one.
    Prompt
“In studying the First World War–its causes, the war itself, and its outcomes–to what degree do you believe that it constituted a crisis for the liberal political project inaugurated by the Enlightenment and the Age of Revolutions? What evidence do you see of this in the political and intellectual shifts that followed?” A few things to keep in mind:
By “liberal,” I am referring to classical liberalism, the political and economic ideology of free markets, national state, individual rights, and the belief in the rationality of human decision-making. You can refer back to the ideas of thinkers like John Locke, Adam Smith, the Marquis de Lafayette, and the framers of the US Constitution for more on this.

  • “Optimizing Parking Space Usage through Smart Technology: A Visualization Presentation for City Council”

As a city manager for a mid-size city, you must be able to examine patterns and trends to highlight organizational performance and support organizational strategic planning. One of the ways that is done is through analyzing the statistics. Still, just presenting the numbers is not always the most efficient way to present your analysis.
    Scenario
You are a city manager for a mid-size city that is anticipating increases in population and auto traffic as new industries move into the downtown area. Parking spaces are already hard to find and traffic congestion can be problematic from commuters and events like concerts and sports. Before considering adding additional parking, you think it is possible to use existing parking more effectively through a smart parking app that identifies parking space availability in different parking lots throughout the city in real time.
In this assessment, you will demonstrate your skill in information visualization when you present your recommendations to the City Council members who are responsible for deciding whether the city invests in resources to set in motion the smart parking space app.
    Preparation
Review the parking space usage file.
Select any 2 parking lots. For each one, review the scatter plot showing the occupancy rate at each time stamp during the week of 11/20/2022 –11/26/2022. Identify whether occupancy rates are time dependent. If so, identify the times that seem to experience the highest occupancy rates.
Research “smart cities” to provide guidance and support for your presentation.
    Assessment Deliverable
Create a 10- to 12-slide information visualization presentation including voice-over or screencast video. Include the following in your presentation:
Outline the rationale and goals of the project.
Analyze the box plot charts showing the occupancy rates for each day of the week and interpret the results.
Analyze the box plot charts showing the occupancy rates for each parking lot and interpret the results.
Choose 2 scatter plot charts showing occupancy rate against the time of day over the course of the week and interpret the results.
Make a recommendation about continuing with the implementation of this project.
Format references according to APA guidelines.
    Submit your assessment.
