“Uncovering the Rhetorical Strategies of an Advertisement: A Critical Analysis”
I will be sending my rough draft to you I turned in I do just need a final Draft! I will be sending the directions my teacher sent.
During this course, we have begun looking into rhetorical analysis, or HOW an argument is created. A good place for us to start analyzing how an author tries to appeal to their target audience is looking at advertisements. After all, all advertisements have the same goal/argument: buy this product, subscribe to this service, etc. Every single advertisement attempts to connect from the author to the audience through rhetorical methods or moves.
For this assignment, please rhetorically analyze one advertisement of your choosing. You CANNOT use an advertisement or a company we have already done in class together. Otherwise, you have the option to analyze a print ad, a post, a video, a commercial, etc.
In your rhetorical analysis, it would be helpful to consider the author’s purpose, target audience, tone, and stance before considering some of the rhetorical devices/appeals we have discussed in class. Be thoughtful on the number of rhetorical devices you want to analyze in order to formulate your argument. Please keep in mind any of the devices we have discussed in class or anything you have read in our class readings.
Your essay is analytical, evaluative, and argumentative, meaning you look at what the authors are saying, you talk about whether their article/video is logical or not (and how), and you have a stance on your analysis. Your thesis (and stance) are not your own view on the ad/product; your thesis is your argument on how this author/company made their argument concerning the product/service. Additionally, your essay should have a structure that makes it easy for your reader to understand your argument and follow your thoughts. You should use a standard structure, such as: Introduction + Claim, Body Paragraphs, and Conclusion.
Your paper must be minimum 700 words and must follow the MLA Guidelines: double-spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman, one-inch margins, with the appropriate header. The rubric for this assignment is on the back of this page and clearly explains how I will be grading your work. Again, I significantly mark down your grade if you are under the page requirement. *Remember you are able to go to the Writing Center (the first time) for extra credit in this class. -
Title: “Exploring Cultural Traditions: A Deeper Look at the Festivals and Celebrations of India”
Instructions:
Select a topic to inform your audience of a significant aspect of a culture that is different than your own. Possible topics include social customs, family traditions, holidays, clothing, food, religious traditions, and sporting activities. Refer to Chapter 7 of your text as a guide.
Research your topic. Be imaginative in choosing content for your speech. It is not enough to simply summarize basic information from the Internet about a country or culture. Narrow the topic by selecting one specific aspect on which to focus your ideas.
Organize the main points of your speech using an informative pattern of organization. Your speech should give your audience a deeper understanding of your topic, but should not be designed to affect your audience’s beliefs, attitudes, or behavior.
Provide adequate support for each main point by citing at least three credible sources in the speech. Incorporate examples, narratives, testimonial evidence, statistics, analogies, explanations, and/or definitions where appropriate. Sources must be cited orally in the speech. If you have had direct contact with a different culture, you should supplement your research with your personal experience.
Create an introduction and conclusion. -
Title: Applying Leadership Theories in Managing a Department
Assume you are the manager of the department where you currently work. If you are not currently working, use a past situation or a hypothetical situation; be sure to describe it. Select two leadership theories that you believe will be most useful in managing your staff. Select different theories or different combinations of theories than your classmates select. Respond to the following:
Assess why you think these theories will be most practical or helpful.
Evaluate how the two theories might interact with one another.
Analyze whether you anticipate needing different leadership methods (based on your two selected theories) according to the ages, races, national origins, cultures, genders, educational backgrounds, or job types of your subordinates. Provide necessary illustrations and citations to justify your conclusions.
Justify three best practices that emerge from your selected leadership theories (three best practices total. You do not need three best practices for each theory).
The final paragraph (three or four sentences) of your initial post should summarize the one or two key points that you are making in your initial response.
Your posting should be the equivalent of 1- to 2-single-spaced pages (500–1000 words) in length. -

Examine how the film you chose represents the events and subject it considers. Identify and analyze five cinematic techniques the filmmaker uses to effectively tell this story. Is it a story of tragedy or triumph — or even both? What is the filmmaker’s position on the event or series events, and how they signify historically and geo-politically? Finally, were you surprised by what you learned from this film, or did you already have knowledge of this event or series of events? Either way, go to Britannica.com and read more about the subject. (You are welcome to do more research on the topic, but this is a good source for an overview.) Then evaluate the film’s representation of its subject based on your further knowledge.
Remember, If you do consult other sources, you must provide citations for them. Do not quote or paraphrase any sources consulted without providing in-text citations as well.
