  • “Development of a Biosensor for Early Detection of Colorectal Cancer-Related Gut Microbiota Metabolites”

Designing of biosensor for detection of the gut micro bacteria.
    Title
Introduction: Various type of bacteria are present in the gut. Some are beneficial for us and some causes disease. The early detection of bacteria helping understanding the pathogenesis and treatment of diseases even Colorectal cancer is because of the bacteria. So early detection it can be done by the double up and up of suitable markers.
How we can the design of suitable markers?
    Designing of experiment:
    1. Selection of bacteria: So different types to bacteria is present but we will select the bacteria which causes Colorectal cancer or be enhance the Colorectal cancer and will isolate the bacteria and we see how many different types of metabolites the bacteria is going to release.
In the laboratory condition as well as in the gut, so we will isolate or collect the various type of metabolites release by the bacteria from the faeces. Apart from this we will also isolate the metabolites release by this bacteria in the laboratory condition. After releasing this, these metabolites are further undergo this chemical reaction to produce a colour. So different in there many metabolites but we will select only that metabolites which is having a very high concentration release in very high quantity and which show increase in the concentration with respect to the progression of the disease that means if a person is suffering from Colorectal cancer stage-3rd must have higher concentration of this metabolite as compare to the stage-2nd. So that when this metabolite is treated with a chemical to produce colour by the intensity of the colour we can identify which stage of the cancer it is.
Expected result: So by this way we can design a suitable biomarkers for the early diagnosis of the disease.

  • Carbon Reservoir Report Introduction: Urban forests, also known as street trees, are an essential component of urban areas and play a crucial role in conservation biology, environmental services, and climate change mitigation. These trees provide numerous benefits to both humans and the

Create a spreadsheet with the information in the file attached. copy the tree ID and CHANGE THE DIAMETER BY 1 OR 2 CM EACH. VERY IMPORTANT. write a 500 to 750-word report
    a. Title (2 points): Your title should be descriptive yet no longer than 10 words. “Carbon Reservoir Report”
    b. Introduction (4 points): 1-2 paragraphs explaining the concept of urban forest. Mention its importance in
the context of conservation biology, environmental services and climate change mitigation tool (please
use reliable sources for your research – no Wikipedia or blogs). Tertiary sources and government reports
    are allowed.
    c. Methodology (4 points): 1-2 paragraphs explaining the measurements made and the material used. Refer
to your classmates as “researchers” rather than “students”. You will be writing about the entire class data
    – not just your own. Remember that everyone is a collaborator; rather than saying something like “our
group was assigned to measure trees on Pearl St.”, explain that “our team of researchers measured street trees in the vicinity of Santa Monica College”. This section should be detailed enough to allow a reader to replicate your work. Leave out irrelevant details such as “we walked to our assigned street” or “the measuring tape had inches on one side and centimeters on the other”. Please include information about the equipment used during field work, the city’s tree map and the equations used.
    d. Results (4 points): 1-2 paragraphs going over the data collected by the class. This includes, but is not
    limited to,
    i. The total number of trees measured,
ii. Number of softwoods and hardwoods found,
iii. Average tree mass in kg,
iv. Average C mass per tree,
    v. Average CO2 equivalent per tree,
vi. Estimated annual C uptake, considering 1973 as the planting year.
    e. Discussion/Conclusion (4 points): 1-2 paragraphs. Start off by reminding the reader about the importance
    of urban forests.
    i. Refer to your carbon footprint calculation. Mention here the carbon
footprint for each group member (annual metric ton of CO2). Compare that number with the
estimated annual C uptake of the trees you measured and see how many trees are required to
    neutralize each member’s carbon footprint.
ii. Mention possible issues we may have had with the collection and processing of data and what we
can do to improve our research (see spreadsheet notes for examples).
iii. Make suggestions for future research.
iv. Take home message: 1-2 sentences summarizing the report.

  • “Exploring the Effects of Temperature on Enzyme Activity: A Laboratory Report”

I need a lab report which includes the title, abstract, introduction, methods, results, table/figure, discussion, conclusion and references. I will provide a lab report sample he gave us to use as a guide as well!

  • “Leading Through Crisis: Evaluating Global Leadership during the COVID-19 Pandemic”

We are all too familiar with the COVID-19 pandemic and have probably all been touched by it in some way. While the COVID-19 pandemic has been declared over, there are still so many impacted and working to regain a sense of normalcy. The ability to navigate the pandemic and help each other globally, took strong leadership and humanism. Was this handled correctly? Were there approaches that could have been more beneficial? Are we prepared if this type of situation were to arise again?
This week, you will research who the leaders were that helped bring this pandemic to a manageable situation. Be sure to look globally, as this was not something one country or group could handle on their own. After your research is complete, provide the background information to the above questions. Finally, be sure to discuss the person or persons who demonstrated true leader to YOU! What did YOU learn from their actions and leadership? How did this help you become a better leader?

  • Title: Interconnected Systems: How the Digestive and Circulatory Systems Work Together to Maintain a Healthy Diet

    BIO 105 FINAL PROJECT – 200 POINTS
The final project for our course requires you to make connections between at least TWO of the human body systems we have studied this semester. There are a number of ways that this can be achieved.
EX: Connect two (or more) body systems through a common disease state.
You could explain how sickle-cell anemia, diabetes, muscular dystrophy or any other disease affects the various body systems. Discuss the cause, symptoms, treatments utilizing terminology and concepts from the various topics we have covered.
EX: Connect two (or more) body systems in the ways that they function to support each other in a healthy body.
You could discuss how the circulatory system and respiratory system work together in exercise or how our digestive system and circulatory system cooperate in maintaining a healthy diet. Be sure to include all appropriate anatomy and cellular processes involved.
EX: Come up with your own way to discuss the various supporting systems!
You could look into the various systems response to “fight or flight” or discuss how your body’s systems work together for healing when you break your leg. The possibilities are almost endless!
The human body is an amazing group of parts and systems that must rely on each other for nourishment, energy, transport, structure, etc! Describe a scenario, using all pertinent anatomical terms and cellular occurrences that shares your gained knowledge from this course.
This is a 200 POINT assignment so be sure to be thorough in your descriptions of the systems, their parts, functions and connections in the given scenario. If you are uncertain, please send me a copy of your ideas, what you have written, I will be very happy to provide feedback and guidance.
The format for this project can be in written paper form or recorded presentation with powerpoint slides. If you have another suggested format, please let me know, I am open to new ideas!
Be sure to properly cite any outside resources used.
