Title: Social Commerce Solution for a Sustainable Retail Company “Maximizing Business Potential through Social Commerce: A Case Study of Facebook as a Solution for Expanding Markets”
The assignment portfolio consists of two parts for you to complete. Please read through the business scenario and complete part 1 and part 2.
Business Scenario:
A small (fictional) UK online retail business which focuses on a sustainable product offering. The Business is two years old, is rapidly expanding its sales and customer base and is now looking to use digital technologies (e.g., social commerce platforms) to support its proposed worldwide marketing, commerce and customer service business functions. At present, the company has an online website (one year old), and a physical store within Worcestershire. They predominantly sell within the Worcestershire area but want to expand their sales to multiple locations within the UK and ultimately, worldwide. Their budget is small at £6000 (£4000 for social commerce technologies and £2000 for staff training) and their staff are new and have little knowledge of digital/social media commerce and marketing. The company also has limited staff knowledge of the legal and international considerations surrounding social commerce. As they are a relatively new company and don’t yet have a social presence, increasing their customer following and trust, as well as brand awareness and reputation are top priority. They want to use social commerce platforms and create associated content to help drive online sales, reach further locations and increase competitive advantage.
Based on the above scenario, you are to choose a DIFFERENT company name; a DIFFERENT sustainable product offering within the retail sector and consider a DIFFERENT target customer base. Now, there are two parts to the assessment which you must complete.
Part 1: 60% of assessment 1 grade (1800 words equivalent)
You are required to produce a social commerce solution for your DIFFERENT chosen company name, with relevant content and associated elements, using Facebook as a primary platform and linking to a secondary platform. This needs to be fit for marketing and selling products for your chosen company. You will need to showcase (screenshots/screen recordings) your work via a PebblePad portfolio. Any image/videos/etc. you use must be cited and referenced properly. You must also ensure the platform pages themselves are set private. Any images/footage/music taken should be copyright/royalty-free.
As a minimum, you will need:
1. A Facebook Business page with company information, relevant images and content which aims to attract consumers and gain sale conversion.
2. Produce a minimum of two types of social commerce business tabs/features on Facebook business page (see grading matrix for further details)
3. Linkage to a populated secondary platform solution for the business. You can choose either Instagram, YouTube, or Pinterest
4. Link to an e-commerce solution
5. Produce regular content e.g., posts, stories, etc.
6. 2x videos which promotes the company and its products/services to the consumer, to seek sale conversion (between 30-120 seconds long- see grading matrix for further details).
Note: If you have trouble accessing certain elements (above) to complete the requirements, please speak with your module leader for permission to use templates provided to produce associated features from the above requirements. You will still need to complete the above requirements but instead of completing all of these requirements on the Facebook and Instagram/Pinterest/YouTube online social media pages themselves, you will produce these within the templates. You can combine the templates with the online versions to complete the assessment.
Part 2: 40% of assessment 1 grade – 1200 written words
Based on your DIFFERENT specific company and the business scenario, answer the following three tasks:
Task 1: Introduce your DIFFERENT chosen company, e.g., target customer, sustainable product offering, etc. (approx. 100 words)
Task 2: Assess the implications that your DIFFERENT chosen company would need to consider when implementing and deploying Facebook as a social commerce solution to the given scenario (above), with reference to theoretical underpinnings and your given business case (approx. 500 words).
This will need to include:
1. The business and technical reasoning for using Facebook to help support aspects such as commerce, marketing, and customer service business functions within an expanding market.
2. The associated issues involved in implementing and deploying Facebook as a social commerce solution
Task 3: Using the table in the submission template, map out and compare two alternative social commerce platforms. This should include the benefits and issues of the platforms and the appropriateness for your chosen company in relation to its business and technical/functional needs (as outlined in the business scenario) to enhance competitive advantage. This should be supported by key theories and relevant and credible sources – approx. 600 words
Table 1: Task 3 table of alternative platforms

3. A Yes/No consent to whether you are happy for your work to be used for future marketing material of student work
