  • “Persuasion, Personality, and Prejudice: Exploring the Dynamics of Jury Deliberation in 12 Angry Men (1997)”

The movie 12 Angry Men was originally filmed in 1957 with an all-white male jury and a male
judge. The remake was made in 1997 with a diverse jury (still male) with a female judge. The
cost to rent the movie is the same with either version and the outcome was the same – so select
either version (choose the one that is the easiest to obtain).
You can rent it from most streaming services starting at $0.99 cents on up. Check Amazon
Video, YouTube, Google Play & TV or iTunes. You can check the library; they may offer an online
    option as well.
In the 1997 version the jurors are as follows:
    Juror # 1 – Courtney B Vance
    Juror # 2 – Ossie Davis
    Juror # 3 – George C Scott
    Juror # 4 – Armin Mueller-Stahl
    Juror # 5 – Dorian Harewood
    Juror # 6 – James Gandolfini
    Juror # 7 – Tony Danza
    Juror # 8 – Jack Lemmon
    Juror # 9 – Hume Cronyn
    Juror #10 – Mykelti Williamson
Juror #11 – Edward James Olmos
    Juror #12 – William Petersen
Watch the movie 12 Angry Men. You will submit the paper in two parts: 1) a rough draft; and
    2) a final version. The rough draft should contain a minimum topic/tentative paper title; brief
overview of the proposed topic; and a list of sources. I will provide feedback on the rough
draft. You will be required to make substantial revisions to your rough draft (100 points) in
order to receive full credit for your final draft (200).
    Prepare a 1500 to 2000-word paper addressing:
In the beginning of the movie, the foreman (#1) suggesting a process (straw vote) and
providing instructions on the process. Based upon the skills-assessments you have done
over the semester, what behavior(s) did the foreman use and what impact did they
    have on the remaining jury?
Initially several jurors hesitated at his suggestion of a straw vote. Why is that and if you
were the foreperson what might you have done differently? Highlight points that you
learned during the week on persuasion.
The foreman suggested the 11 jurors convince juror # 8 “why he’s wrong” while
another juror suggests juror #8 “should be the one who tries to convince us” (of the
defendant’s innocence). Both strategies provide value. What would help the group
choose between both strategies? How would you have handled persuading the others
    to his guilt or innocence?
We get to see the jurors’ different personality styles. How would you use these
differences in a positive way that enables members to benefit from rather than being
aggravated and frustrated by those same differences?
    5.
    6.
    A.
Using your personality style, strengths and weaknesses, identify the juror by # and
explain how might you counteract, convince, persuade or communicate to the
    following dysfunctional styles:
    a. Talker/monopolizer (always has something to say)
    b. Heckler/complainer (combative; tells team members why strategies will never
    work)
    c. Silent member (withdrawn, doesn’t participate)
    d. Sidetracker (discusses items not on the agenda)
If you were on the jury, is there anything you would have done differently to get the
remaining members to agree on the same outcome?
Refer to the rubric posted in Blackboard

  • Cultural Differences and the Acquisition of Zappos by Amazon: A Critical Analysis

For this Case Assignment, write an essay in which you discuss the cultural differences of two respected companies that are successful in their industry, Zappos and Amazon.
After you discuss the cultures of Zappos and Amazon, your ultimate final question is whether the purchase of Zappos by Amazon in 2009 was the right strategy based on the findings of your own online library research and the articles provided. You must support your response to that question with at least one high-quality reference which must come from the Trident Online Library.
Prepare a 4- to 5-page (not including title page and references) critique per the following format:
Title Page. Be sure to include 5 components of relevant information (e.g., Name, Class, Professor, Assignment, Date) on the title page.
Introduction. Discuss the topic of the paper and how you will approach it. It is best to write this section after you have written the rest of the paper. The title of this first section is NOT the word Introduction; it is the company names for this assignment, that is, Zappos vs. Amazon. (The heading for each of the other sections of the paper are in bold in the following four subtopics.)
The History and Culture of Zappos. Describe the history and key elements of the culture of Zappos and explain why these cultural elements are essential to its success. Be sure to apply the background material by supporting your writing with high-quality peer-reviewed journal articles found in the Trident Online Library.

It was or was not a good decision for Amazon to Purchase Zappos. Make an argument that Amazon made the right or wrong choice to purchase Zappos. Discuss the specific differences between the cultures of Amazon and Zappos in support of your position. Be sure to use the background material by supporting your writing with at least one high-quality peer-reviewed journal article found in the Trident Online Library.
Conclusion. Discuss the key points in your analysis that demonstrate the importance of understanding that organizational cultures are not easily changed and why culture should be a primary consideration when organizations contemplate an acquisition or merger.

  • Intentional and Business Torts, Negligence, Strict and Product Liabilities: Case Questions and Analysis “Assessment of Understanding: Proper Use of Legal Terms and Spelling/Grammar Accuracy”

Case Questions, you must answer four synthesizing questions regarding intentional and business torts as well as negligence, strict, and product liabilities. See the Assignment Expectations page for more detail.
Gryphon Consultancy is a computer-consulting firm. It spends considerable time and effort recruiting the best personnel from the United States’ leading technical schools. Gryphon employees sign an initial three-year employment commitment. Dwayne worked for Gryphon, but then he quit and formed a competing company, which he called Syntel. His new company contacted Gryphon employees by phone, offering more money to come work for Syntel. At least 16 Gryphon employees left their work without completing their contractual obligations and went to work for Syntel. Gryphon sued. What did it claim, and what should be the result?
You have most likely heard of the Liebeck v. McDonald’s case. Liebeck spilled hot McDonald’s coffee in her lap, suffering third degree burns. At trial, evidence showed that her cup of coffee was brewed at 190 degrees, and that, more typically, a restaurant’s “hot coffee” is in the range of 140–160 degrees. A jury awarded Liebeck $160,000 in compensatory damages and $2.7 million in punitive damages. The judge reduced the punitive award to $480,000, or three times the compensatory award. Comment on the case, and whether the result was reasonable.
Self-driving cars are no longer science fiction. These vehicles are programmed to use lasers, sensors, software, and maps to drive themselves. A handful of states have passed laws allowing driverless technology on the road. But what happens when a driverless car harms someone? Who should be at fault? The passenger? The programmer? The manufacturer?
Congress passed the Protection for Lawful Commerce in Arms Act which provides that gun manufacturers and retailers cannot be sued for injuries arising from the criminal misuse of a weapon. Critics argue that when gun makers market and sell military-style assault rifles to civilians, they should be held liable because these highly dangerous weapons are designed for specially trained soldiers, not the general public. Assume you own a gun store. What ethical considerations would apply to the sale of guns in your store? If Congress had not passed the pertinent statute, what legal theory might make a gun store owner liable for a customer’s misuse of a gun bought at the store?
    Case Questions Expectations
In Weeks 3, 5, and 7, you must complete Case Questions. In each of these weeks, you will answer four synthesizing questions covering material from your textbook. Generally, these Questions will cover chapters that your Discussion posts do not cover. Thus, through either Discussion posts or homework, you will need to display knowledge of each assigned chapter each week.
Your answer length may vary, but you should have enough to discuss to submit at least a few paragraphs for each question or scenario posed. If sources are requested, you must use APA style and provide in-text citations and a Works Cited page. When referring to a case cited in the text, you do not need to provide a case citation, merely provide the page number that you are referencing.
Each question is worth 30 points, totaling 120 points per assignment.
These Case Questions are due before 11:59 p.m. CT on Sunday of the assigned week.
Please use a legible font style, such as Times New Roman or Arial, with a font size of 12 pt. Double-space the text of your paper and set the margins of your document to 1 inch on all sides.
