    Additionally, you will need to find a cultural artifact that represents your “region.”
    While Jandt (2021) focuses primarily on intercultural communication in terms of national differences, he also points to the importance of “cultures within cultures” (Chapter 11). In this paper, you will explore the concept of regional cultures in North America and discuss their potential impact on intercultural communication in that context. Journalist Colin Woodard contends there are 11 regional cultures in the United States and that they profoundly impact current political divisions and cultural patterns.
    In your paper,
    Summarize Woodard’s argument as detailed by the This Map Shows the US Really Has 11 Separate ‘Nations’ With Entirely Different CulturesLinks to an external site. webpage.
    Define the terms dominant culture and co-culture.
    Identify which regional area you live in and explain if you are part of the “dominant” culture (Jandt [2021], Chapters 1 and 7) of your area or if you consider yourself to be part of a co-culture (Jandt, Chapters 1, 11, and 12).
    Analyze how dominant cultures and co-cultures relate to your own political philosophy, religion, or other cultural elements. If you’re not comfortable with this self-disclosure, you can speak hypothetically.
    Explain how the dominant culture shapes how people communicate verbally and nonverbally.
    Identify a media or personal artifact that represents the regional culture. This artifact is to illustrate how the “dominant culture” is represented. It can be a local news clip or photo of a politician or religious leader speaking to illustrate the patterns you mentioned. Or choose one of the three items you shared in your introduction and explain if it results from that regional cultural commitment or comes from some other culture. Review The American Regional Cultures and Intercultural Communication Competence video.
    Examine how the artifact and the culture it represents establish and treat in-groups versus out-groups, as outlined in Jandt (2021), Chapter 1.
    Apply the concept of intercultural communication competence to communication between people from different “regional cultures” or co-cultures within them.

  • Title: The Evolution of Media Effects Research: Paradigms, Influences, and Implications for Future Studies

    Trace the evolution of media effects research from Lippmann to the present day. Identify and discuss the key paradigms that have emerged throughout this history, emphasizing what differentiates one from another, as well as what has remained constant. Analyze how these paradigms have shaped our understanding of the relationship between media and its audiences. In your essay, consider the social, political, technological, and methodological factors that have influenced these shifts in media effects theories and research. Conclude by providing a thorough evaluation of the current state of media studies research and the implications of the ‘current state’ for future studies in the field.  please provide APA style in-text citations throughout, and especially when paraphrasing or quoting. You do not need to provide a references section (but you are certainly welcome to do so) unless you rely on outside sources, in which case you must provide a references section that at a minimum includes the full reference for any / all outside materials (even then, you don’t need to provide the full references to course materials, but you are certainly welcome to do so).

  • “Exploring Effective Communication Strategies: A Case Study Analysis”

    This assignment is for an investigating communications class at SDSU, lower division level. I’ve included the instructions given, as well as examples.

  • Title: “Exploring Representation in “Sex Education”: Socio-Economic Diversity and Sexual Identity”

    paragraph parts highlighted in red to bypass AI detection, and write a short paragraph noted in the second section about “You could explore how “Sex Education” navigates the landscape of representation, not just in terms of sexual orientation and identity, but also in its portrayal of diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Characters like Otis, who comes from a relatively affluent background, contrast with characters like Maeve, who faces financial struggles.”

  • Title: “Exploring the Effects of Social Media on Mental Health: A Quantitative Study”

    Introduction (2-3 pages; 15 points): In this first section, you should introduce your
    topic (and its importance). Use three (or more) articles to provide justification for
    your hypothesis(es) or background for your research question(s). Do not just
    summarize the studies, but rather use them to explain why you are making your
    prediction(s) or posing your question(s). End this section with an explicit statement of
    your hypothesis(es) or research question(s).
    B. Method (2-3 pages; 15 points): Describe the logistics of your project, including your
    overall methodological design/procedures, participants (if applicable), setting,
    instruments used (if applicable), and any other pertinent details. Cite course materials
    as appropriate.
    C. Results and Discussion (2-3 pages; 15 points): First, report and interpret your data.
    Describe what you can conclude based on the data. Was your hypothesis supported?
    Or, if you proposed a research question, what was the answer? How do your findings
    relate to the previous research you cited?
    Second, what were the strengths and weaknesses of the methodological decisions you
    made in your study? Refer back to your notes and class readings, and cite as
    appropriate. You might discuss, for instance, issues of operationalization, sampling,
    validity, and reliability. Suggest ways in which the study could be improved upon or
    supported further by future research.
    D. Reference Page in Correct APA Style (10 points): See
    http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/664/1/ for guidance.
    E. Other Materials as Appendices (15 points). These materials will vary depending on
    your project but, when in doubt, turn it in with the hard-copy (or ask me). Materials
    that would be included here are, for example, completed questionnaires, audio-
    recordings and notes from interviews/focus groups, fieldnotes, coding guides and
    sheets, etc. Please also turn in the first page of each article cited.
    The remaining 20 points measure the extent to which the overall paper is well-written (e.g., well-
    organized, grammatically sound) and follows APA format (see sample provided in class and on
    Canvas). Quality of writing is also considered as a criterion in assessing Points A-E above.
    Papers that do not follow the assignment instructions will lose points, so please re-read the entire
    assignment description very carefully before turning in your paper.

  • Title: The Impact of Media on Society: Exploring Ethical and Social Responsibility Issues

    Research Paper.
    For the final paper, you will write a 15-page paper (including references) about issues related to media and society. The best strategy for writing a successful final paper is to read ahead in your textbook, or pick up on an issue arising during a lecture or documentary presentation: you want to answer a real (and interesting) question, so start thinking now. Please do not put yourself in a situation where you feel compelled to download ready material from the Internet.
    Your chosen topic should relate to media and society. Do not choose extremely broad topics such as “violence on television” or “political bias in the news.” It is almost impossible to say anything significant on such topics in short papers. Examples of topics include:
    Is Google and Verizon’s net neutrality proposal socially responsible;
    How can Internet radio stations cope with copyright restrictions;
    Do you believe that truth in advertising should be monitored and regulated;
    How can consumers encourage television stations to report news instead of fluff and sound-bites;
    How can movie critics write honest reviews for a newspaper owned by a conglomerate that also owns motion picture companies;
    How does a motion picture producer cope with the ethics of product placement;
    Or, far better, choose your own topic and discuss it with the instructor.
    You will write the final paper using your sources of information (at least 7 citations required). You can use either MLA or APA style.

  • “The Impact of Social Media on Democracy: Analyzing Content, Expectations, and Dynamics”

    Content and Expectations. In a 5 page paper, APA or Chicago Style citations, Times Roman, 12point-double spaced, essay, discuss the relationship between social media and democracy. In your response, define social media and evaluate and analyze its sociality. Introduce the concept of democracy and civics noting how they are designed to operate. Explain why social media has transformed or left unchanged the racial, gender, and class dynamics of democracies. Assess the role that false content plays in democratic outcomes. A strong essay will discuss ideology, theory, and other concepts emphasized in the course learning content. Your essay will be judged on how well you apply critical thinking skills to the content.
    Citations and Sources. There should be at least 20 in-text citations in this paper. You must cite the course text at least ten times and a minimum of three course videos must be cited at least twice each. Only the learning content assigned to this point may be used. No other or outside sources are allowed and if introduced will result in an automatic 0 on the assignment.

  • “The Power of Nonverbal Communication: How Body Language Shapes Our Interactions” “Group Presentation on the Importance of Effective Communication in the Workplace”

    This project was originally assigned as a group speech however it is now individual. Please disregard the group references as this is just one person doing this speech. This must be equivalent to 5-7 minutes when talking. I am attatching the textbook and i would like this to be about something from chapter 15.
    Assignment Level Objectives:
    Apply small group communication skills including: problem solving, group roles, leadership styles, and cohesiveness.
    Identify and relate group communication skills in the quiz.
    Apply group skills by using discussion forums to select a topic for the Informative Group Presentation.
    Apply group skills by using a collaborative document to organize and construct an outline for the Informative Group Presentation.
    Apply group skills by using available technology and resources to deliver the Informative Group Presentation as a group.
    Develop, research, organize, and delivery formal public speeches.
    Apply group skills by using discussion forums to select a topic for the Informative Group Presentation.
    Apply group skills by using a collaborative document to organize and construct an outline for the Informative Group Presentation.
    Apply group skills by using available technology and resources to deliver the Informative Group Presentation as a recorded group video with a visual aid.
    Topic Selection:
    The group must decide the topic for the presentation based on some concept or theory from any of the textbook chapters. Hint: any bold words or concepts in the chapters are fair game.
    The group must communicate in the group discussion portal and come to an agreement of which concept or theory from a chapter/section the group will teach to the class. There should be a relevant example of how that concept applies to something in our every day lives (our relationships, jobs, family, school, society, etc). You might see the theory or concept in pop culture as well (examples in movies, t.v. shows, music videos, books…even Twitter!).
    This assignment demonstrates, often dramatically, the relevance of course material to the everyday lives of individuals in society through the lens of Communication Studies.
    Format/Organization: This speech will be organized in a topical format to include three main points: The definition of the assigned concept, the group’s explanation of the concept and lastly stating the application of the concept in a visual or specific example (Define, Explain, & Apply).
    Define: Tell us what the textbook and research says about the concept.
    Explain: Use your own words, your own interpretation and understanding and personal examples to help us understand the concept. Meaning, teaching it to the class in a way thats meaningful for you.
    Apply: Find a creative and innovative example of the concept. Examples may include a news story, painting, article, photograph, short-video clip or sculpture.  Be sure at the end of the concept you bring it back to how it applies to and explains the concept you have chosen from the chapter.
    Research:
    You will be required to incorporate a minimum of three credible sources. In addition to using our textbook as a reference for one source, you should find the remainder of your resources through the school library, electronic media, interviews, and/or the internet.
    For a recap on how to evaluate proper source material:
    SCRAAPLinks to an external site.
    Full-Sentence Outline with Reference List: You will be tasked with preparing a group working outline for the presentation in the “Collaborations” section of your group portal. There will be a Google Doc linked there that is shared will everyone in the group, including the instructor.
    It must be typed, full-sentence, and must use a topical organizational pattern. The outline must be formatted correctly using APA style for in-text citations and the Reference List with a minimum of three (3) sources cited on both the outline and reference list.
    Sample Outline: See Sample Outline Here!Links to an external site.
    The sample outline should show you the correct formatting and style, but go here for a refresher on APA styleLinks to an external site..
    Group Delivery: You will be responsible for divvying up content and speaking time as well as assigning group roles to achieve your shared purpose. You will need to use verbal and nonverbal skills to present the speech audibly, visually, and coherently. Eye contact with the audience, projection, articulation, and speed of the voice, natural movements, formal tone, and time limit will all be assessed based on frequency and punctuality. Verbally cite all 3 sources in your speech as you use the information (it doesn’t matter who cites the sources as long as 3 are cited). You must record different segments of the speech and merge them together using the same visual aid. There are all types of software that can put video segments together. Make sure your group does this and submits one edited video of the presentation into Studio rather than 3 different presentation videos into Studio.
    Here’s what a final project might look like…
    Visual: You will be tasked with using supporting visual material that is clear and relevant to the presentation. This can be presentation software like Power Point, Google Slides, Prezi, and Keynote, or it can be printed media as well. Please see the tutorial below on how to accomplish using a visual aid with the Canvas Studio feature.
    Speech Length:  The speech presentation should have a reasonable window of time in which it must be completed, but the presentation window must be anywhere within the 5-7 minutes range for the whole presentation.
    To complete the Assignment, you will need to submit your:
    1. Full Group Video
    3. Visual Aid file
    to this assignment portal. There will be a time stamp, and you can stack multiple files by uploading them one-at-a-time.

  • Title: Critical Assessment and Connections: Exploring the Main Concepts of [Article Title]

    ● . This assignment offers you the opportunity to express an understanding of the reading and to draw comparisons between readings and class discussion. Further it allows you to ask pertinent questions about the material. Closely read their selected article attached below and write an 800–1000 word (around 3-4 pages, double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins) assessment that discusses the following:
    ● Explain the main idea or concept offered in the reading.
    ● Critically assess the reading under examination. That is, what did you learn? What surprised you about the reading?
    ● What are the arguments proffered by the authors? What is convincing about the arguments presented? What is not as convincing?
    ● Find a current event and find a corresponding outside article and connect it to the main concepts from the readings. Cite this article in a works cited page with a link.
    ● Explain how, if you had the opportunity, you would conduct a study that was interested in similar questions. What data would you analyze? Why?
    ● Lastly, develop and describe at least four pertinent questions about the reading. For your questions you should:
    o Ask for further clarity in reference to the main concepts.
    o Think about potential flaws or inadequacies of the author’s ideas.
    o Ask whether the author’s ideas might be used in explaining a different and/or original example.
    o Investigate the logic of the author’s thinking and attempt to follow it to its logical conclusion.
