  • Title: The Complex Relationship between Lucile and Bruno in Suite Française: A Critical Analysis

I have read the beginning of the book Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky first part of the book called storm and the second part of the book called “DOLCE” which is the part of the book that this research paper focuses on. We read from chapter 1 to the end of the dolce. It mainly focuses on Lucils relationship with a German nazi named Bruno while she lives in her French home she falls in love with him and has moments where she questions the reality of a German nazi with a French woman. Below is the instructions my teacher has gave to me. The relevant sources can be articles about French people in times when the nazis lived in their house or something that may relate to the relationship between Bruno and Lucile.
Topic 2: Focus on the character Lucile’s relationship to Bruno
Given that French women were supposed to be patriotic and stay away from German soldiers under the Vichy government, what do you make of Lucile Angellier’s attraction to Bruno, the Nazi Officer? Where does one see Lucile think critically about their developing relationship? You might want to consider how she changes as the plot progresses around the hiding of Benoit.
Include at least 5 relevant sources based on your own research.
Format: 8-9 pages including Bibliography (MLA style), 1.5 space, 12-point Times New Roman, no spaces between paragraphs, 1-inch margins.

  • The Deceptive Facade of Social Media: A Response to Stephanie Ericsson’s “The Ways We Lie” Lying is a universal phenomenon that has been ingrained in human behavior since ancient times. In her essay “The Ways We Lie,”

Your first assignment is a short and hopefully enjoyable assignment. I want you to write a 250-400 word short paper in which you define your own lie in the vein of Stephanie Ericsson’s essay “The Ways We Lie.” You may think of this as a reading response paper to Ericsson’s essay. I want you to cite her essay at least once, using APA style in-text citations, and explain a type of lie that she did not cover. Write an introduction about lying that mentions Ericsson’s essay, define your lie, give examples of it, and describe if you think the lie is harmful or not harmful.
For example—and do not use this one please—“The My Computer Crashed Lie” in which panicked students who forgot to do their English paper write their professor pretending that their computer crashed in the hopes of getting an extension. Your lie can be a broad category of deception that her essay didn’t cover or else a specific type of lie that might or might not fit under one of her terms. The façade of Instagram? The façade of being a nurse? A lie of omission that helps people? Whatever you’d like.
While this short paper can be fun, I do expect it to be proofread. And most importantly this essay needs to be in APA formatting. The grade will be 5 points for the writing and 5 for APA.

Research a recent civic issue (2024) published in the Editorial section of https://thedailyaztec.com/category/opinion/ The author(s) must make an argument which is of concern to a specific community of non-experts (students of a particular school, gender, occupation, fandom, etc.). Identify multiple perspectives from which this issue is viewed.  Use this information to create a persuasive text that uses ethical persuasive strategies to advance social understanding, change, or action. This project should be presented in a genre that would be commonly used to communicate with members of this community.
Texts: Find a Daily AztecLinks to an external site. article AND additional sources which you will cite in support of your argument. See the details in the lecture slides and in the rubric below. Not all of these outside sources have to be scholarly articles (many can come from a general internet search).
Purpose:  Respond to an author’s argument and try to persuade the audience of that article to agree with your point of view. Regardless of whether you agree with the Daily AztecLinks to an external site.’s editorial, you will create a rebuttal in which you play the opposite perspective (although you are encouraged to create some places of agreement). Use a variety of Rhetorical Strategies to appeal to Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. Avoid fallacies, ad hominem attacks and maintain an argument which wouldn’t be offensive to the average person’s conscience. It must be an ethical argument.
Audience: Your audience consists of those who would have read the article you researched, plus a more general audience. Consider them to have limited knowledge of the topic you are debating (explanation of the context of this argument will be necessary).

  • Title: The Impact of Homework, Drinking Age, Social Media, and Independent Music Distribution in New Media

    Assignment
Choose one of the topics and pre-existing texts below to respond to in a text drafted for new media. You are not required to film a video or edit a TikTok. Instead, you will be demonstrating an understanding of the rhetorical context of new media through drafting either a script for a video that would be posted to YouTube or some other video aggregate site or a blog post that could be submitted to a digital publisher specializing in reader-generated content.
    Texts for Response (choose one)
“Editorial: How Can Kids Learn Without Homework and Rigid Deadlines? Quite Well, It Turns Out” by Los Angeles Times Editorial Board for the Los Angeles Times (opens in new window): Frame your response around whether or not you agree with the editorial board’s stance on homework and deadlines. Would it be better if we relaxed homework expectations for kids? Should this be implemented across all levels of education? Or is this dangerous?
“The Case for Lowering the Drinking Age to 18” by Shayna Herszage for The Yeshiva University Observer (opens in new window): Frame your response around whether you agree with the points made by Herszage. Why do you agree? Why do you disagree? What do you think the drinking age should be?
“I’m an Influencer and I think Social Media is Toxic,” by Lydia Keating for Slate (opens in new window): Frame your response around whether or not you agree with Keating’s take. Can you understand why she feels the way she feels? Can you understand why she continues to do the work even while feeling this way? How do you feel about the toxicity of social media in general?
“How Rap’s SoundCloud Generation Changed the Music Business Forever,” by Alphonse Pierre for Pitchfork (opens in new window): Frame your response around whether it is a good thing that artists are able to distribute their own music without record labels or do you think that the music industry was better when it was harder for people to be heard?
    Grading Criteria:
You must refer to your chosen text in your response. You’re responding to it. Choose a handful of specific points made in the original text you wish to respond to. Quote the original and offer your take.
Think about how texts written for new media acknowledge sources. You must acknowledge any sources you use in your writing according to expectations for new media. This includes your chosen text and any other source material you incorporate.
Submissions should be around 700 words and in the format appropriate to your chosen genre.

  • “Overcoming Obstacles: Michelle Obama’s Journey to Becoming First Lady”

Michelle Obama is an American attorney and author who served as the first lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017,
Michelle was raised in Chicago’s south side by her family of four. They lived in a little upstairs flat in a bungalow owned by her great-aunt. She and her brother, who was 21 months older, slept in the living room with a sheet dividing the space. Their family had some difficult times financially, even though they were not living in poverty. Her dad worked at a water-cleaning plant for Chicago, and her mom was a stay-at-home parent after working as a secretary for Spiegel’s.
Michelle finished from Princeton and Harvard Law School. At first, she worked at Sidley Austin and met her husband. Then she worked in nonprofits and as the associate dean at the University of Chicago. Later, she was vice president at the University of Chicago Medical Center. She married Barack in 1992 and they have two girls.
She tells about feeling put in a box as an angry Black woman by some media after she got into politics. She says, “It felt like there was a fake me causing trouble out there, a lady I kept hearing about but didn’t know—a too-big, too-strong, ready-to-take-power Godzilla of a political wife” —-~Becoming Michelle Obamas memior) Theses were some of the obstacles she faced as beging the First Lady racism, and begin stereotyped.

Now that you have had a chance to listen to several “Just So” Stories, and have taken some time to look at he PDF and taken note of the patterns and how Kipling uses language to craft his bedtime stories. You will be crafting one of your own “Just So” stories”
Remember that these are origin stories as well as Bedtime Stories, so they are both explanations for the creation of something as well as a lesson to be learned. So when you begin to write your own story, be sure you are picking your subject with care and thoughtfulness. Also remember that you can look further afield or deeper into your own culture for the basis of your story.
You must mimic Kipling’s form and use of language, but do not be afraid to make it your own. Be sure you also keep in mind that this is a bedtime story for children, so express yourself with the care with which you would approach a child. This does not mean that the lesson you are teaching must be a simple one, but it does have to be put in a way that a child can understand. Also note that he does not dumb down his vocabulary, but he does use it in a way that adds to the meaning, rather than adding to confusion.
There is no specific length for this assignment, but always remember that if you do a minimal job, you will receive a minimal grade.
It must also be in MLA format.
Be create! Be thoughtful! Have Fun!
