Assignment Details
A 12-year-old boy was caught in the act of battering a 14-year-old female acquaintance by the victim’s 16-year-old brother. The brother arrived home, saw his sister on the floor, and observed the 12-year old boy standing over her with his fist raised in the air. The 16-year old brother observed that his sister was not moving. He also saw a shoe with a bloody heel near her on the floor. The victim was almost unconscious when the police arrived.
Following the incident, the juvenile was arrested and detained by local police on the following charges:
Battery of a minor
Aggravated battery with a weapon
Minor in possession of an alcoholic beverage
Unlawful possession of a controlled substance (marijuana)
The juvenile suspect was a latchkey kid (a child who returns from school to an empty home) from a single-parent home. His mother works from 2 p.m.–11 p.m. Monday through Friday, so the juvenile is often alone and unsupervised for several hours upon his return from school.
After a preliminary investigation, the juvenile suspect explained that the victim purchased the marijuana and the alcohol earlier that same day. The juvenile explained that the victim had invited him to her house because they had “been liking each other” for a long time. Further, the juvenile explained that the alcohol and drugs were in the home when he arrived. He said that he and the victim began by smoking marijuana and drinking beer before they began kissing and touching one another. Next, according to the juvenile suspect, they started to have what he described as consensual sex. After a short while, they were interrupted by the victim’s brother, who had come home from work. The victim’s brother then called the police to report the incident.
The juvenile had prior detentions for violation of curfew, truancy, and attempted sexual battery. No further explanations are given.

This semester, I plan to thoroughly investigate the “Impacts of Socioeconomic Status on Recidivism Rates issue”. The research is designed to examine the interrelation between socioeconomic status (SES) and the probability of ex-prisoners re-offending after their release. Our independent variable is SES, while our dependent variable is the recidivism rate.
The primary reason for selecting this topic is to identify the factors at the root of recidivism. This problem plagues our criminal system and prevents effective justice. By analyzing how socioeconomic status affects crime rates, we would be able to understand how poverty and crime are interconnected, and this idea will further the cycle of crime and incarceration (Drawve & McNeeley, 2021). Indicators from the lower socioeconomic ranks frequently experience hindrances in gaining education, employment opportunities, mental health facilities, and secure housing, all critical factors in reducing the chances of further offenses.
A comprehensive understanding of the connection between SES and recidivism rates is an invaluable guide for policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders as they look to develop more effective programs. By identifying and removing the groundwork of recidivism, such as economic inequality, diverse approaches can be applied to obtain a fairer and more rehabilitative justice system (Drawve & McNeeley, 2021). Another critical aspect of the research is that it offers directions for allocating resources, advocacy, and policy formulation, which aims to break the cycle of crime through promoting social justice.
This topic is a convincing fact that it’s a real experience for those touched by this incarceration issue. By revealing the socioeconomic factors contributing to recidivism and gradually building a more inclusive society where every person with equal economic standing has the chance to gain redemption and rehabilitation, we can endeavor to achieve it.

Plea bargains are agreements between defendants and prosecutors in which defendants agree to plead guilty to some or all of the charges against them in exchange for concessions from the prosecutors. An overwhelming majority of criminal cases are resolved via plea bargaining (well over 90 percent). Despite this, court dockets are full and the few jury trials that do take place, are not always timely. 
Research and write a paper on the pros and cons of plea bargains.  Have your paper address the impact on the criminal justice system if the U.S. Supreme Court held that plea bargaining was unconstitutional. Finally, include proposed changes to the plea bargaining process to make it more efficient, and/or more equitable.
