  • Title: “Exploring the Power Dynamics in Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’: A Comparative Analysis of the Play and Film Adaptation”

Follow the instruction sheet, complete question 8 with a 5-6 page double spaced essay. Must use the play along with the filmed version.

  • “The Art of Theatre: An Analysis of Acting, Directing, and Design in [Title of Show]”

In the essay, you need to cover ALL the following areas: acting, directing, design (set, light, costume). With all of these areas, talk about what you found was effective and ineffective. Who stood out to you and why? What was effective or ineffective about them? What about the show was effective as a whole? What was the message of the show? What themes did you find in the show? THIS IS NOT A PLOT SUMMARY. I do not need or want you to just talk about the plot or give me a play-by-play of the show. I saw the show as well. You can touch on the plot, but I am much more interested in your opinion of the show (and all its various aspects). Also, you cannot just refer to someone by their character name or their title (director, designer, etc.). You are expected to give credit to the actor, director or designer by using their actual name, which must be spelled correctly. Find info here
    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090607/fullcredits/?ref_=tt_ov_st_smLinks to an external site.
You will LOSE POINTS if you do not do so. You will also lose points if you do not talk about the acting, the design (all aspects of design – set, lights, costumes) AND the direction!!
In your paper, don’t forget YOUR reaction to the performance itself. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART! How do you react to this play? How does the message of the play affect you individually? Discuss directorial choices, design choices, acting choices … anything that you had a reaction to. Be as specific as you can be and use specific examples from the performance to illustrate your point. You don’t have to love the play or even like it, but you need to be able to support your arguments. So just saying “I loved this play” or “I hated it” or “it was all right” won’t cut it – tell me WHY you are having the reactions you are having.
Each paper will be 700-1200 words long. This paper is not a just plot summary or a book report. Plot is very important, but it is only one of the many areas you need to discuss. I want to hear YOUR reactions to this performance. If you do not give credit to the designers by name, you will automatically have TWELVE POINTS deducted from your grade. Mentioning only some of the designers but not all when then incur a deduction. If you do not give credit to the director by name, you will automatically have TWELVE POINTS deducted from your grade. If you do not give credit to
the actors by name, you will automatically have TWENTY POINTS deducted from your grade. NOTE: This does NOT MEAN that you have to talk about EVERY SINGLE ACTOR in the show. Some of the shows have 15 actors – you do not need to talk about them all. Also, DO NOT just list out all the actors and the parts they played.

  • Title: Exploring the Purpose and Impact of Theatre through the Works of Playwright [Playwright’s Name] Theatre has been a powerful medium of artistic expression for centuries, and it continues to captivate and inspire audiences around the world. At

Research the playwright. What does the playwright believe the purpose of theatre is? What is their personal background? Education? What are the names of the plays they have written? Where were they performed? How were they reviewed by critics? Who were they influenced by? Who did they influence?
Give me a  summary of one of their plays.
Include photos of productions of that play. Analyze the photos for symbolic meaning and tone of the play.
Paper needs to be three pages typed (this does not include the photos). Used Times New Roman font at 12 pt. 1 inch margins around the page. Due by the end of the term. Cite your sources using MLA format.

  • Title: “The Unspoken Words in a Tense Confrontation” Inner Monologue of John, from the play “A Streetcar Named Desire” As I stand here, facing my sister-in-law, Stella, I can feel

Choose a scene from this play. Explore the subtext in the scene you have chosen. What unspoken “lines” or words may be going through the characters’ minds as they deliver their spoken dialogue? Choose a section of lines and write an inner monologue that ONE of the actors might think as he or she speaks the lines in the text (Note: you do not have to retype the lines of the play—what is going on inside the character’s head?).
Review the definition of inner monologue. Your inner monologue should convey the “stream of consciousness” thoughts and emotions going on inside your character as he or she is speaking his or her lines and listening to the lines of the other character. Sometimes the inner monologue will match the tone of the spoken lines. Sometimes it may be quite different. How might the inner monologue affect the way the spoken lines are delivered by an actor?
The inner monologue should be written in paragraph form, and in first-person voice, in character (try for a monologue between 3/4 and 1 1/2 pages long, double-spaced).

    Introduction to Drama
Final assignment (stage a scene) | spring 2024
From one of the plays we’ve read for class [*], choose an act or a scene & write a summary of it. In addition to explaining what happens in the act, your summary should explain how the act works in the play. 200 – 300 words.
[* if you really enjoy the reading we’re doing & have the energy, you may choose an act or scene from one of the two plays in our texts we didn’t read for class: Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler or Yukio Mishima’s The Lady Aoi.]
Break down the act’s action—i.e., describe, as simply as possible, what happens.
You may write this as a list.
How would you stage the act?
Be as literal or abstract as you please. Your goal, aside from thrilling your audience, is to convey the play’s meaning using your actors, set design, lighting, sound, & costume. 2 pages. 2 full pages, please.
If you want to include concept sketches, you may—but as an appendix, not in the body of your 2-page staging description.
