  • Identifying Variables Title: Identifying Variables in Mental Healthcare Research: A Case Study Analysis and Proposal The difference between an independent and dependent variable lies in their relationship to each other in a research study. An independent variable is a variable that is manipulated

    Discussion Board 4
    Identifying Variables
Describe the difference between an independent and dependent variable.
Locate a QUANTITATIVE peer-reviewed journal article in your field and answer the following questions.
    What are the research questions?
    What are the independent variables?
    What are the dependent variables?
How did the authors measure the dependent variables?
Identify possible variables for your own dissertation study or for a proposed study (if you plan to do the Strategic Research Project).
    For quantitative studies,
    What are the independent variables?
    What are the dependent variables?
What are some ways you could measure the dependent variables?
    For qualitative studies,
What is the variable of interest/phenomenon?
What are some ways you plan to collect data to measure the variable of interest/phenomenon?
I uploaded two files that should flow with the assignment of mental healthcare.

  • Title: “The Constitutional Rights of Public School Students: Should They Ever Be Limited?”

Today, more than 50 million students attend public schools in the United States. These schools require a few million adults to serve as teachers, administrators and staff members. Those figures mean that on any given weekday, about one-sixth of our national population can be found in a public school, making it the largest governmental entity that Americans encounter for sustained periods.
However, as we have learned in class this week, when you step into school, you step into a place that is legally allowed to limit or take away some of your Constitutional Rights.

    Discussion Questions
Now it’s time to share your thoughts. In your submission answer the following questions:
    1) Do you agree with the Supreme Court that schools have the right to limit or take away students’ Constitutional rights in some situations? Why or why not?
    2) Are there any Constitutional rights that you think should NEVER be taken away from public school students? Be specific and explain your thinking!

  • Age group assigned: 11-12 years old in Queens, New York Piaget’s stage: Concrete Operational Stage Expected development: At this stage, children are able to think logically and understand cause and effect relationships. They can also understand

    Instructions
    Be the teacher…
You will be assigned an age-group based on where you live. – Queens, ages 11-12
You will create original Piagetian-type tasks appropriate for the age group. For example, if the grade you are assigned will consist of children who are making the transition into concrete operational thought, they might expand upon Piaget’s conservation of length task (which originally used sticks), by identifying a different type of material (e.g., a garden hose is the same length regardless of being stretched out or coiled). For formal operations, students might consider evaluating word puzzles or solving mystery vignettes. They can then administer these tasks to one or more K-12 students.
Students’ tasks might involve conservation of number, substance, length, distance, area, volume, height, or weight.
    Please write the following:
    Age group assigned
which of Piaget’s stages will the children be in (children might be between stages)
What is expected of children at that stage of development
What kind of developmentally appropriate activity might you assign children of that age. describe it in detail. It could be a game, toy, assignment, etc.
How do you know this is an appropriate assignment for students that age and in that stage of development?
What do you expect the children to learn or accomplish by doing this activity?

  • “Organizing Your Literature Review: Introduction and Body” “APA Style: A Comprehensive Guide to Formatting and Referencing”

For this assignment, you are going to organize your summaries into your introduction and literature review.
There is one criterion in the Research Proposal Rubric along with the description in order to receive a 3: Exceeds Standards, it is:
    1) Introduction: Problem,  Significance, & Purpose of the Study
Presents a significant research problem related to education or topic with relevance to education. Articulates clear, reasonable research questions given the purpose, design, and methods of the proposed study. All constructs and variables have been appropriately defined. Propositions are clearly supported from the research and theoretical literature. All elements are mutually supportive.
There are two criterion in the Research Proposal Rubric along with the description in order to receive a 3: Exceeds Standards, they are:
    1) Literature Review: Organization
Structure is intuitive and sufficiently inclusive of important constructs and variables of the proposed study.
    2) Literature Review:
Narrative integrates critical and logical details from the peer-reviewed theoretical and research literature. Each key construct and variable is grounded to the literature. Attention is given to different perspectives, conditionalities, threats to validity, and opinion vs. evidence.
Outline for writing your small-scale literature review:
    Introduction (15 points)
The introduction is used to establish the context of your review to the reader. Be sure to use the three areas (Problem, Significance, and Purpose of the Study)as subheadings in your Introduction. To establish the context, it is important to do the following in this opening paragraph:
Problem: Define the topic of your study and provide any background information that helps your reader to understand the topic.
Significance: Explain your reason (perspective) for reviewing the literature on this topic.
Purpose of the Study: Explain the purpose of your study, why it is important to you and end include your your research question(s) that will be addressed.
    Body (20 points)
This section of your paper begins with an explanation of how you have organized your literature review and describes findings from articles that provide answers to your inquiry question. Before you begin this section, be sure that you have sorted your articles into different themes based on the articles’ findings (sometimes called results). After you sort your articles, it is important to give your sorted groups a descriptive name. The names of the sorted articles will become your headings for each of the paragraphs that you write in the body of your review. To write the body of your small-scale literature review, it is important to include the following:
Write an introduction paragraph for the body of your review. This paragraph tells the reader specific information on how many articles you reviewed and how you sorted the articles into common themes based on the findings (results).
This will be a paragraph that describes the first theme that you identified and compare, contrast and/or connect the articles you’ve selected.
This will be a paragraph that describes the second theme that you identified and compare, contrast and/or connect the articles you’ve selected.
This will be a paragraph that describes the third theme that you identified and compare, contrast and/or connect the articles you’ve selected.
    Summary (10 points)
This is the last paragraph of your literature review. In this paragraph, it is important to summarize the main findings from the articles that you reviewed and to point out the information that you found particularly important to know that helps to answer the research question(s) that you established in the Purpose of the Study. Try to conclude your paper by connecting your research question back to the context of the general topic of study.
    References (5 points)
This is the last page of your review. It serves as a listing of all references that you mentioned in your paper. Please use APA style when completing this list. #2  Teaching English-Language Learners: What Does the Research Tell Us?   By Sarah D. Sparks
Nearly 3 in 4 American classrooms now includes at least one English-language learner, and these students make up roughly 1 in 10 public school students.  While their numbers continue to rise quickly, the evidence on what works best to help non-native speakers become proficient in English—particularly the more formal academic language needed for school success—has been harder to come by.

  • Title: Teratogens, Genetic and Chromosomal Abnormalities, and Resources for Families

For this activity, you will make three lists.
First, you will create a list of ten teratogens and explain the result of exposure to each teratogen and any interventions that may be made once exposed.
Second, you will create a list of five genetic and chromosomal abnormalities and explain the results of these abnormalities and discuss any interventions that might be made to support the child and parents.
Third, you will create a list of resources to assist families that have experienced any of the above situations. Where might they get support, guidance, or medical intervention? You must have a combination of local, state, and national resources and include contact information and a brief description of the resources.
Please submit your lists in one document and use headings for each list. Remember, this is not a paper. You are submitting three different lists with appropriate descriptions and citations. Do not forget to cite course-related materials using APA format.
