  • “Tailored Job Application Materials for a Healthcare Position at Kaiser Permanente”

Perhaps some of the highest stakes documents you’ll create in your professional career will be job application materials. This assignment will give you to opportunity to refine and develop any materials you might already have and practice tailoring those materials to a specific employer and job posting.
Conduct a job search for openings and find a job you could reasonably see yourself applying to, either now or after you have earned your degree. Feel free to use the job posting you found for this week’s discussion and the research you conducted into the organization. Or choose a new job posting.
Assemble the following in a single document:
Page 1: A screenshot of the job posting and a link to the job posting online.
    https://www.kaiserpermanentejobs.org/job/anaheim/staff-rn-hospital/641/66679198864
The link I will be using
Page 2: A single-page job application letter, formatted according to the guidelines for business correspondence in this week’s reading, and specifically tailored to the job and employer you’ve chosen.
Page 3: Your resume, tailored for the job and the employer. (You may adapt this from your existing resume if you have one)
The Resume is included it just need the rewriting to make it look presentable and then separately to condense into a single page letter

  • Title: The Negative Effects of Social Media on Mental Health: An Argument for Limiting Usage

    ARGUMENTATIVE RESEARCH PAPER
    SimCheck under 20%
    LENGTH
    1,500-2,000 words (excluding references)
Write an essay taking the “for” or “against” side of any current issue.  Assume that the reader has feelings opposite to yours and attempt to persuade the reader to adopt your point of view.  You will do this by making a strong THESIS statement at the beginning and supporting that idea with at least 4 REASONS:
    THESIS
    Reason + evidence
    Reason +evidence
    Reason + evidence
    Reason + evidence
    CONCLUSION
    TOPIC
Choose a topic which is of interest to you and has plenty of scholarly research available. Narrow your topic down as much as you can—your paper will be more persuasive that way.  Present a PRESCRIPTIVE thesis (what should/shouldn’t be), not a descriptive one (what is/isn’t).
    OUTSIDE SOURCES
Use at least eight quotations from at least eight outside sources to illustrate and defend your thesis. These must be chosen from at least three of the following categories.
Periodical (magazine or journal)                    Television program
    Daily newspaper                                             Government publication
    Book (limit 2)                                                  Live lecture
    Other Internet source                                     Pamphlet
    Personal interview (limit 1)
=an expert, not an average citizen=
Support your opinion with inarguable FACTS.  Give supporting evidence that is free of logical fallacies, assumptions, and biases.  Naturally, your own commentary must be free of these weaknesses and above all rational and non-emotional.
    DOCUMENTATION
Cite your sources using the MLA or APA style of documentation as shown in Rules for Writers.  Give parenthetical references within your text and include a “Reference” list at the end of the paper with full publication data on each source.
    DUE DATES
This project will be completed in four steps.  Please observe the following deadlines.
ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRPAHY. Combine a list of 8 sources and provide a paragraph summary of each source.
THESIS.  Present a single statement (one sentence of reasonable length) that is the controlling idea of your essay.  Unless you and I agree otherwise, this statement will appear word for word in the introduction of your essay.
OUTLINE. Present your approved thesis followed by 2 to 6 primary reasons that will support it.  Each reason should consist of one complete sentence.  No research materials should be included in the outline.
FINAL PRODUCT.  You are required to type this paper.  Double-space of course.  Do not enclose it in any type of binder.

  • Title: The Controversy Surrounding Vaccinations: A Balanced Argument for the Importance of Immunizations

Objective: Employing what we have learned of argument (evidence, appeals, opposition, etc) and of audience (targeting, rhetorical strategy, sensitivity of delivery) to construct a reasonable, balanced, position argument essay over a controversial topic. Research and document sources employing methodologies recommended by the Modern Language Association (MLA), described in our textbooks and in class.
The Assignment: Persuade a designated audience toward your perspective in a documented position argument.
Length: 6 pages in length in proper format as per syllabus. (The Works Cited page is NOT included in the word/page length. You should have the minimum of YOUR text.)
Audience: Satisfying audience is the objective of this assignment. The objective is to reach your reader. The best method of working that audience toward your ends would be (at the very least) acknowledging the other side and establishing common ground.
Sources: Use at least 6 quality sources. Quality will be determined not only on how generally credible and sound a source may be, but how relevant and appropriate that source is for the particular rhetorical situation you have created (ie. for your audience). Two resources must come from the Butler Library databases. Give your readership what it needs, from sources it will attend to.
You may not use all of the same source. This means you cannot use all internet sites or all scholarly journal articles or all books. You need to show that you have gotten research from a variety of places in a variety of types.
The employment of sources must clearly be supportive of the overall argument. Sources should be evidence, not the argument itself.
Documentation: As sources are used in the body of the essay, they must be cited appropriately according to MLA documentation guidelines both in-text and on the works cited page.

  • Title: Ethical Considerations in Patient Care: A Case Study Analysis

    Assignment Overview:
Case box example 3.3 (page 57) of your ‘Leading and Managing in Nursing’ eBook: In Estate of Travaglini v. Ingalls Health (2009), an 84-year-old patient was admitted to the hospital with general complaints of “not feeling well.” At the time of his admission, the physician told the admitting nurse that the patient had dysphagia and must be observed whenever he was eating or trying to swallow liquids. At 10:00 that evening, an aide came to the patient’s room and left a sandwich for him to eat. Shortly afterward, the patient’s roommate heard the patient choking and summoned help. At autopsy, it was confirmed that he had aspirated the turkey sandwich, and that this was the cause of the cardiopulmonary arrest that killed the patient. Though liability was found against the aide and her supervisor, the court also upheld a verdict of $500,000 against the hospital.
    Assignment Instructions:
In your eBook, this client care scenario is viewed from a legal lens and how the UAP, the supervisor, and the hospital were found negligent. Because ethics and legal principles often overlap, consider the same scenario from an ethical standpoint. Answer the following questions, record your answers on a Word document, and upload it below. Always give credit to your sources.
Define beneficence and non-maleficence. Discuss how they are similar, yet different, and give examples of each.
How were both of these ethical principles not upheld in the given scenario?
Rewrite the scenario of this client with dysphagia to uphold these ethical principles. Consider the rights of delegation. What could the provider, admitting nurse, and the UAP do differently to ‘do good’ while also ‘doing no harm’? What provider orders should be included?
Start your scenario with the same opening sentence: An 84-year-old patient was admitted to the hospital with general complaints of “not feeling well.”
    Submission Guideline:
Record your responses on a Word document and upload it below.
Give credit to your sources using APA 7th edition format; use both in-text citations and on a reference page.

For guidance in writing your APA style annotated bibliography, consult the Purdue Owl Website or review the Annotated Bibliography Guidelines document under the Helpful Writing Links section of the Canvas classroom.
A successful assignment will have the following two parts:
    1. Research Questions:
Create 3 research questions based on PowerPoint Presentation in Week 3.
Utilize the template provided under Week 3 section of classroom
Research Question #1 must be a Question of Definition (This question allows you to explain the problem to your reader)

  • “Analyzing Sources for Research: Annotated Bibliography Project”

It’s not enough to just report what a source’s claims are. You should get in the habit of reading sources for research questions, methods, claims, evidence, and rhetoric. Without a clear understanding of how and why a source reached his or her conclusions and how s/he is using rhetoric to prepare audiences to accept those conclusions, you won’t be able to engage in true inquiry. What You Will Do I will provide the sources you will use for your annotated bibliography project and your controlled research paper. We will discuss the paper topic in class. The six different sources are: “Getting Personal about Cybersecurity.” Lindsay McKenzie (p 1247) “Oh My Gosh! When Did Facebook start with Mind Infiltration?” Brian Crane (visual) (p 1255) “70 Percent of Employers Are Snooping Candidates’ Social Media Profiles” Lauren Salm (p 1263) “Creative Ways to Get Noticed by Employers on Social Media” Deanna Hartley (p 1267) “Congress Let Internet Providers “Spy On’ Your Underwear Purchases, Advocacy Group Says” Lauren Carroll (p 1273) From World without Mind: The existential Threat of Big Tech Franklin Foer (p 1287) You must use at least three sources for your annotated bibliography project and the controlled research paper. You may use more if you feel they are relevant and helpful to your writing. Even though your research paper is not due now, you should begin to think about your argument because that will dictate which sources you choose. For this project, you will write good, useful annotations of those sources so that you really understand their content and their rhetorical appeals.
For this week, you will utilize the attached assignment explanation to complete 3 annotated bibliography entries. You will take the peer feedback from your mid-week discussion board post to revise your first annotated bibliography. Please see rubric for grading profile
