Title: Developing Authentic Servant Leadership: Exploring the Skill of Empathy through Literature and Personal Experience
First, review the page in the Course Syllabus entitled “Authentic Servant Leadership at GMC.” Next, view the PowerPoint resource in week 3 entitled “Authentic Servant Leadership” (this resource will be used to help write this week’s paper). Then, write a thorough, organized response that a) clearly identifies and further analyzes at least one of the seven authentic servant leadership skills listed in the week 3 resource (listed on slide 3 and explained further in slides 4-9); b) meaningfully discusses your chosen skill(s) in relation to at least one specific character, theme, or event in assigned reading in weeks 1-3; and c) provides a specific personal example of how your chosen skill(s) has shaped or influenced your own life thus far—and how further developing this skill could help you become a better leader moving forward.
Your paper must include at least one brief quotation (with appropriate MLA citations) from both the literature used in your response as well as the “Authentic Servant Leadership” resource linked in week 3. Any content within this resource can be cited, to include the actual quotations from historical/literary figures. The only sources used in the paper should be your chosen literature and the Authentic Servant Leadership resource provided for you.
Your submission must be new, original work that is at least 750-1000 words and addresses all assignment instructions.

“Exploring and Solving Problems in Your Field: A Persuasive Analysis” Title: The Ongoing Presence of the Problem and the Stakes at Hand
Be sure you read and follow the instructions about revising previously graded work before putting it back in your portfolio. If you don’t make suggested revisions, you could lose valuable points. Please be sure to read all of this assignment description carefully. It’s very detailed. It describes two separate things. However, all items will be submitted in ONE Word document.
Describe a problem you might want to explore in your final paper. Then try to persuade your classmates to share your view that this problem needs to be looked at. Your initial post will have two parts:
What is the problem? Describe it in terms of who, what, where, when, how, and why. Why should this problem be examined? Persuade your peers that money/time should be committed to this problem. Use the appeals of ethos, logos, and pathos (described here in Types of Persuasive Appeals) as appropriate to convince them that this is an important issue to be studied and/or solved.
Your outline should include your thesis statement (a single complete sentence), a description of the problem, and a thorough analysis of the problem. It is not necessary to include a solution to the problem.
You will most likely have between 4 and 7 sections in your outline, with the introduction and conclusion being at either end. The middle sections will likely be body paragraphs and should provide evidence to support the assertion that is your thesis statement. Be sure that the elements of the outline are complete sentences. Please note that, if you have one subheading in a category, you should have a second subheading.
The portfolio that contains elements you have been working on throughout the course; and the final paper (problem analysis) that you will include as part of the portfolio. Let’s look at the BIG picture first, the final portfolio. What is a portfolio? A portfolio is a collection of items organized in a notebook, file, or a similar format. By collecting this information throughout a course, you can clearly see the connections among assignments as well as the progress you have made. In ENGL110, your portfolio will reflect the work you have done in a specific discipline or topic, ending with the analysis of a problem you have explored. Here are the required elements of the portfolio. The required sections are included in the template. Title Page Table of Contents Item 1 of the Portfolio – Description of Discourse Community in Your Field This is the assignment you submitted in week 2. You are to submit a final version of the description, including any changes recommended to you in the instructor’s feedback. Item 2 of the Portfolio – Annotated Bibliography for your Final Paper This is the assignment you submitted in week 4. You are to submit a final version of the annotated bibliography, including any changes recommended to you in the instructor’s feedback. Item 3 of the Portfolio – Final Paper – Analysis of a Problem This is the final problem analysis paper that is the culmination of all the work you have done in the course. Please see the complete description of the paper below. Final Paper (Problem Analysis)
Assignment Instructions This analysis project requires you to tackle a problem within your field of study by first exploring it, its causes, and its impacts. Then, if you want, you can recommend one or more practical solutions to solve the problem. After deciding on the problem you wish to tackle, begin building questions about it. Your goal for the analysis is to answer the questions through your sources. Finding multiple angles and perspectives is ideal so that you explore those possibilities in the final paper before settling on your recommendation. Be sure to identify what is at stake. Here are questions to help guide your analysis: What is the problem being addressed (explain, describe, and “prove” that it exists)? Who is affected by this problem? Why does this problem exist? (Identify the root causes.) Why does the problem persist? (Identify the major factors that contribute to the problem’s ongoing presence.) What is at stake if the problem is not solved? If you decide to include a solution, use these questions to guide you: Who can take action? What should they do, exactly? Why would this help? What are the positive and negative aspects of your solution(s)? PURPOSE: To analyze a problem and possibly provide a solution AUDIENCE: Classmates, others interested in the field LENGTH: 750-900 words (Times New Roman font). Please do not go significantly (~10%) under or above the word count requirement. This word count includes only the paragraphs in your final essay (not the Works Cited/References page or previously submitted sections).
