  • “Effective Virtual Team Communication: Tips, Differences, and Takeaways”

    WRITING QUALITY:
Writing should reflect full sentences, proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization are required. Avoid writing as you would text (e.g., “u” in place of “you.”)
Student responses to discussion questions must be thorough and reflect an understanding of course material. Be organized in your thoughts and ideas. Incorporate correlations with the assigned readings or topics. Stay on topic. Avoid summarizing. Contribute to the learning environment with depth and with the goal of motivating discussion. Scientific discourse is based on evidence. Opinions are just that, but if used in a discussion, they must be informed opinions.
In your 3 original posts (answers to discussion questions), you should have two types of citations: in-text citation in your post and reference citation at the end of the post.
Cite the textbook, refer to concepts in the textbook, and/or include an outside source (e.g., link to relevant information/website) in your answers.  Cite textbook material and/or website information according to APA style both in-text and at the end of your post
For your original post (total three posts are required), the length of one single post must be a minimum of 300 words (excluding reference citation and name/post number/ question/question number). Thus, the minimal length of the total three posts will be 900 words (i.e., minimum 300 words/post x 3 posts), Q1. Look at the “Eight Tips for Effective Virtual Teams” from Psychology Today at https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/smartwork/201…. Then answer the followings: 1) Describe/explain eight tips. Which tips would be the most important for your effective virtual team communication? Why? 2) Is there anything you would add?
Q2. Because of Pandemic, our work and social life heavily rely on virtual communication. Read class reading, Communicating in virtual groups and teams by Beebe & Masterson (pp. 21-26). Then, discuss the followings:1) There are six key differences between virtual and non-virtual collaboration in the class reading. Describe and explain those. Cite textbook. What are the benefits and drawbacks of working virtually with groups? 2) Choose one of three theories in the reading. First define the theory with textbook citation. How does this theory help you enhance effective virtual team communication?3) What are some things you learned about yourself when working virtually?
Q3. Describe at least two “takeaways” from this course. In other words, what have you learned that is useful for other groups of which you are a part of? Be specific and avoid generalities, such as “I am a better communicator.”

    Assignment Prompt
Compose a comparative analysis that identifies similarities and/or difference between you and a person from I Am Malala. You may choose Malala Yousafzai or Ziauddin Yousafzai (Malala’s father).
For this essay, look closely at the example essays provided. You should compare and/or contrast multiple points. For example, if you choose Ziauddin, you may choose to discuss the similarities and differences between how you both raise your children, how you both believe in fighting for equality, and how you both have a special regard for your spouse. If you choose Malala, you may decide to write about the similarities and differences between how you both love your homeland, how you both have important relationships with parents who helped shape you, and how you both have difficult experiences you had to overcome.
Resist choosing Malala only if you are a woman or Ziauddin if you are a man. Select based on the one with which you would have the best points of comparison/contrast.
