  • “Defining the Boundaries of ‘Fake News’: An Analysis of the Contested Case of Pizzagate”

    Definition Argument Essay Assignment
Goal     Write a 1,500-1,750-word essay using five to seven academic resources in which you argue that a contested “case” fits (or does not fit) within a given category. Follow the directions of your instructor as to what topics are acceptable.
    Directions
Follow these steps when composing your essay:
1.Start by selecting a controversial or contested definitional case.
2.Decide what category you think your case belongs in, with the understanding that others may disagree with you about the definition of your category, and/or whether your chosen case matches your category.
3.In the opening of your essay, introduce the case you will examine and pose your definition question. Do not simply summarize here. Instead, introduce the issue and offer context.
4.To support your argument, define the boundaries of your category (criteria) by using a commonly used definition or by developing your own extended definition. Defining your boundaries simply means naming the criteria by which you will discuss your chosen case.
5.In the second part of your argument (the match), show how your case meets (or does not meet) your definition criteria. Perhaps by comparing or sizing up your controversial case to other cases can help you to develop your argument.
This essay is NOT simply a persuasive essay. It is an argumentative essay where the writer explains what a term means and uses a specific case to explore the meaning of that term in depth.
    First Draft Grading
•You will receive completion points for the first draft based upon the successful submission of a complete draft.
•Because your first draft is a completion grade, do not assume that this grade reflects or predicts the final grade. If you do not consider your instructor’s comments, you may be deducted points on your final draft.

  • “Controlling Our Digital Lives: Analyzing the Influence of Tech Companies on Elections and News”

quote the authors by using parentheses and nice transitions
the essay has to be regarding the topic of how tech companies are control our everyday lives like elections or news
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/dec/04/google-democracy-truth-internet-search-facebook something like this but don’t use this article
    (a)    Summarizes
and analyzes the position of the target article
    (b)
Brings three (3) more sources into conversation
with the topic presented in the target article.
    a.
At least one of these sources should be a scholarly
    source
    (c)
Summarizes and analyzes the position of each
    additional source
    (d)
Explains how these sources relate to each other.
    the
article needs to be opinion/idea based.
Using journalism/reporting or strictly informational texts will make it
difficult for you to present the differing views on your chosen topic.  Your goal here is not to inform your reader
on the topic itself, but rather to inform your reader on the differing
    perspectives surrounding this topic.
In this assignment, you are developing your understanding of
a topic area that will serve as the foundation for the remaining assignments.
As with Assignment #1, you should begin by summarizing your target article.
Then, you will take things a step further by analyzing the target text,
assessing its message, audience, contexts, and evidence in order to make an
argument for its purpose. Is the author writing to inform? To persuade? What
types of evidence is the source presenting? Who is the intended audience? Then,
you will broaden your understanding of the topic area by bringing at least 3
additional sources into conversation with the first, summarizing and analyzing
each (your treatment of each additional source may be briefer than that of the
target article). Finally, the work you have done summarizing and analyzing
these sources should be brought together (synthesis) to help the reader
understand the most salient ideas, viewpoints, and arguments on a given topic.
This will serve as the basis for your Position Paper.
    Audience/Situation
Find a publication (print or online) where your essay would
be a “good fit.” If your topic is too broad and doesn’t seem like a good fit
anywhere, this may be a sign that you need to narrow and/or reframe your topic.
The final draft should be at least 2000 words, but may be longer than that. See
me if you plan on exceeding the word count by a significant margin.
    Tips for
    Success:
Every source you find will reference other sources—use
these references and bibliographies to help develop your own sense of the
    broader conversation

  • The Impact of Media on Masculinity: Uncovering the Negative Effects

8 paragraph Research essay 2 intros 5 body paragraphs 1 conclusion( do not use In conclusion teacher hates that)
    Prompt:
Research how the media affects masculinity. As Jackson Katz points out, “cultural theorists such as Raymond Williams (Williams, 1981) have argued that while it’s people who produce the images that bombard us daily on tv, on billboards, in video games….we’re not just consumers of these images.…These images have a profound impact on who we are, and on our tastes, attitudes, and the kinds of choices we make” (16). How does media negatively affect masculinity? Explain how and why.     [NOTE: for your introduction you may want to discuss male and female roles/stereotypes. You may also want to discuss how the different types of media (movies, porn, and so on–think of what Jackson Katz said in Tough Guise 2) send messages to men, what these messages are, and what their effects are on both men and women–what is the problem they are causing? You will concentrate on men in the essay.]

  • “From Dental Struggles to a Stronger Faith: My Journey to Becoming a Dentist”

Hello this will be my personal statement for my dental
school application I’m going to tell you what I want to write about and tell
you everything and you would just make sure it’s in the most professional way and
professional words and vocabulary please and make sure your words not
repetitive and it has to be 4500 characters MAXIMAM so please make sure it
    doesn’t exceed that.
    I want you start the
    statement by this:
-At first I want to start with an interesting story to hook
the reader  and it’s basically when I was
10 years old the dentist told me that my bottom jaw grows around 3x faster than
my upper jaw which makes my mouth has a weird bite and weird smile so I had to
put like something metal in my mouth and it had a key that pushes my upper jaw
every day until the age of 13. Plus, I had to put braces on to fix my gaps as
    well,
    – then I want to talk about how I was born in Egypt which is
a Muslim country and I’m Christian, there they don’t really like Christians and
we don’t have as much freedom at all like for women they have to go in street
with their hair and their body covered and they would prefer the Muslims over
Christians in anything and any job. So, when I turned 14 me my brother and my
parents immigrated to USA and we have been in Florida since then.
-then I want to talk about how when I came here I couldn’t
transfer all my credits from Egypt and I had to retake 7th in middle
school. So I felt a little behind and when I went to high school I took it only
in 3 years not 4 because I would take extra online classes every year to finish
early and graduate and then I went to saint Petersburg college for two years
and then I transferred to USF to take my bachelors from there.
-then I want to talk about why I chose dental, which is
basically two reasons, first it’s the story I said in the beginning and how I
would hate what happened to me to happen to anyone else and I would love to
help everyone and make sure everyone is good. Second reason is also the main
reason my parents moved to USA is me and my brother so we can have a better
education and better jobs and that made my parents come here and not work with
their certificates and just find any random jobs just for us to have a better
future so I’m working my hardest to do that for them and myself as well
-and then this section I want to talk about my faith and
church, I’m Coptic orthodox Christian and I go to a Coptic church here in
florida and I always attend liturgies and serve there, I have different
services one of them is Sunday school which I really enjoy because I love kids
and also I serve in the church sports days and that’s probably my favorite
service because sports and games are something I do more than 3 days a week and
enjoy playing and having fun with the kids at church as well.
    – now this section I just want it to be short and simple I
just want to thank my parents and my older brother and give them credit for
basically helping me go through all this until right now and always being with
me and supporting me in every step
    – and then please include a conclusion paragraph.
    Note;
again please make sure this is as professional as possible, and feel free to put extra words or sentences as well as long as it doesn’t exceed the 4500 characters

  • Title: Annotating Literary Elements in a Short Story

Annotating keywords can help us understand the literary elements of a short story, such as plot, character, setting, diction, or theme. You were introduced to these literary terms in Week 1.
For this homework assignment, you will reread and annotate the story you chose for Week 2, Discussion 1. You will locate keywords that signal the literary elements of the short story. You should read closely and carefully, noting words or synonyms that repeatedly draw your attention to the literary elements of theme, plot, character, and setting. In a printed book, you may underline or highlight them. You may also write notes to yourself in the margins. In a PDF, you may be using the markup tools or comment features.
There is no exact, “right way” of annotating a particular story; like the writing process, the close reading process is yours to individualize.  If you prefer to print out the story on paper, annotate it by hand, and then upload a picture or scan of the paper, that submission would be perfectly fine as well.
In short, by reading the story more than once and annotating it, you are engaging in active reading, which will improve your experience as a reader. You will comprehend more, remember more, react more, and possibly visualize more. The reason to annotate is to become an active reader.
    Directions:
Identify three of the following literary elements in the story, and explain how you recognize them:
    plot
    character
    setting
    theme
Choose just one of the literary elements that you discussed in Question 1 and list 10 keywords in the story that relate to that element.
Annotate at least one section of the story that elucidates the literary element.
Take a screenshot (or a picture, if you’re using a print version) of your annotated section(s) of the story. Save it as a PDF or JPG, and upload it to the Assignments area of the classroom.
