  • “Assessment Criteria for College-Level Writing: Evaluating Thesis, Organization, and Source Usage”

I chose three topics in the upload.
The following criteria are based on the recommendations of the departmental Curriculum Committee, February 20, 2009. Updated August 2015. Using sources information added May 2022.
    A          (100-90)
The A paper will have a thesis (i.e., a definite main idea) clearly supported with concrete, relevant details and the required source:

    Clear, varied, and mature sentences.
    Vivid and exact word choice.
Smooth, logical flow with clear transitions within and between paragraphs.
Polished writing style, consistent in tone and appropriate to the subject.
Accurate and varied citing of required source as appropriate.
No errors in Work Cited entry.
No more than two major errors, unless there are redeeming features. *
Absence of minor errors that interfere with communication.
    B          (89-80)
The B paper has many of the excellent qualities of the A paper in terms of the required source, unity, organization, and development, but there will not be as much skill displayed in the handling of ideas or use of language.
Accurate and varied citing of required source as appropriate.
No errors in Work Cited entry.

The C paper falls within the average rank for college-level writing. It will have a stated purpose, a definite organization, details for support, and some variety in sentence structure. Normally a paper will earn no better than a C if it has
Inaccurate and lack of variety in citing source.

All of our papers require you to cite source or sources and to construct a Work(s) Cited. If you do not, you have not done the assignment.
The F paper falls far below average expectations and is deficient in use of source, unity, organization, development, grammar, and/or mechanics. Normally a paper will earn no better than an F if it
Does not fulfill the assignment. See Essay Requirements

    .”
Consider the section “Problems with Writing at the Graduate Level” and answer the following questions in paragraph form:
What are your thoughts about what the article offered in terms of why students struggle with writing at the graduate level?
What types of writing assignments listed in the article have you struggled with and why?
    B. Reflect upon the “Available Methods to Improve Graduate Students’ Writing” section and answer the following questions in paragraph form:
What do you think about some of the suggestions that the authors write about in terms of methods to improve graduate students’ writing?
What methods most resonate with you? If there are other methods you know of/experienced, write about them, too!
How can any of these methods improve your writing?
    C. Read over the Checklist (Appendix). Share a few thoughts on the checklist. Would this be a helpful tool for you to utilize in your research papers? Why or why not?
    D. Write a minimum three-page paper exploring the above questions. APA title and references pages do not count toward this three-page paper requirement. :>) Although APA format is not part of the rubric, understanding this formatting, e.g., using in-text citations and references, will definitely set you up for success early in our course. (Don’t worry if the format is still new to you, I’ll help!)
Hint: Use the built-in grammar and spell-checking features in MS Word. Those features can help catch errors.
    E. Acknowledge my feedback in both the annotated feedback and comments sections on Canvas. This could be as simple as saying that you read it! Here’s the handy link showing you how to do this: Viewing Annotated Feedback on AssignmentsLinks to an external site..

  • “Uncovering the Rhetorical Strategies of an Advertisement: A Critical Analysis”

I will be sending my rough draft to you I turned in I do just need a final Draft! I will be sending the directions my teacher sent.
During this course, we have begun looking into rhetorical analysis, or HOW an argument is created. A good place for us to start analyzing how an author tries to appeal to their target audience is looking at advertisements. After all, all advertisements have the same goal/argument: buy this product, subscribe to this service, etc. Every single advertisement attempts to connect from the author to the audience through rhetorical methods or moves.
For this assignment, please rhetorically analyze one advertisement of your choosing. You CANNOT use an advertisement or a company we have already done in class together. Otherwise, you have the option to analyze a print ad, a post, a video, a commercial, etc.
In your rhetorical analysis, it would be helpful to consider the author’s purpose, target audience, tone, and stance before considering some of the rhetorical devices/appeals we have discussed in class. Be thoughtful on the number of rhetorical devices you want to analyze in order to formulate your argument. Please keep in mind any of the devices we have discussed in class or anything you have read in our class readings.
Your essay is analytical, evaluative, and argumentative, meaning you look at what the authors are saying, you talk about whether their article/video is logical or not (and how), and you have a stance on your analysis. Your thesis (and stance) are not your own view on the ad/product; your thesis is your argument on how this author/company made their argument concerning the product/service. Additionally, your essay should have a structure that makes it easy for your reader to understand your argument and follow your thoughts. You should use a standard structure, such as: Introduction + Claim, Body Paragraphs, and Conclusion.
Your paper must be minimum 700 words and must follow the MLA Guidelines: double-spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman, one-inch margins, with the appropriate header. The rubric for this assignment is on the back of this page and clearly explains how I will be grading your work. Again, I significantly mark down your grade if you are under the page requirement. *Remember you are able to go to the Writing Center (the first time) for extra credit in this class.

  • Title: Examining the Cinematic Techniques and Representation of Tragedy and Triumph in the Film “Schindler’s List” The film “Schindler’s List” is a powerful and emotional portrayal of the Holocaust, specifically the story of

Examine how the film you chose represents the events and subject it considers. Identify and analyze five cinematic techniques the filmmaker uses to effectively tell this story. Is it a story of tragedy or triumph — or even both? What is the filmmaker’s position on the event or series events, and how they signify historically and geo-politically? Finally, were you surprised by what you learned from this film, or did you already have knowledge of this event or series of events? Either way, go to Britannica.com and read more about the subject. (You are welcome to do more research on the topic, but this is a good source for an overview.) Then evaluate the film’s representation of its subject based on your further knowledge.
Remember,  If you do consult other sources, you must provide citations for them. Do not quote or paraphrase any sources consulted without providing in-text citations as well.
Note: All reflections should be at least three paragraphs and provide specific examples that support your argument. Approx. 200-250 words or more.
