As we dive into the textbook, I had come across three different ethical theories. Deontology, Consequentialism, and Virtue Ethics. “Deontology, falls within the domain of the moral theories that help guide and help us to assess our choices of what we ought to do(deontic theories), in contrast to those that guide and assess what kind of person we are and should be.” (Alexander, 2020).
The first example that helped me see was what I was thinking about in a situation in the healthcare field. If you have a terminally ill patient, and they ask you if they will be okay after surgery, that they are going to survive, a deontological approach would for you to not lie to them to comfort them. The truth hurts, and it needs to be said without being sugarcoated.
Consequentialism ” The most prominent form of consequentialism is utilitarianism, it is a broad in scope, seeking to act so as to bring about the greatest good for the greatest number of people.” (Magnuson, 2020). This theory is how the system defines “good” or “ethically right”.
Virtue Ethics ” The emphasis on the agent in virtue eithics means that moral reasoning is not focused so much on decision-making as on the nature of virtue, reflection on what makes for the good life, the values and priorities of a community…” (Magnuson,2020). i.g,. good actions as ones that display emobody virtuous character traits, like courage, loyalty, or wisdom.
” In utilitarian ethics, outcomes justify the means or ways to achieve it, whereas in deontological ethics, duties/ obligations are of prime importance (Mandal, 2016). Deontology and Consequentialism are based on rules that give us the right to action, virtue eithics makes the central use of the concept of character.”How should we live?” the answer is that one should live virtuously, to have a virtuous character. These are based on rules that give us “right of action.” Deontology strengths is that when we use reason all the time and the weakness is we do not always agree on normal duties. Consequentialism is that it is a natrual way for any person or persons to have reason about knowing whether an action was correct or not. A weakness to this theory is not having the information before hand. Many people do not agree on what should be assessed in calculating good consequences. It can also be hard to measure and compare the “goodness” of said consequences. Often we choose a different time periods that may produce a different consequence.

First, select a topic of moral controversy, debate, disagreement, and dispute, Examples of such topics are euthanasia, the death penalty, abortion, cloning, etc. You can pick any such topic. It need not be listed here.
Next, detail the positions of each side of the ethical debate. Note at least two moral reasons each side presents to show their view on the topic is correct.
Now, we want to evaluate these positions using the moral theories we studied this week:
What would an Ethical Egoist say about this topic? What side would the Ethical Egoist take? What would the Ethical Egoist say to justify their moral position? Analyze the case from the perspective of the executive vice president of human resources
(EVP of HR) who is in charge of all employee-related policies. Assume that your company
has historically conducted drug testing for new candidates and random tests of current

Hello class
It took me some time to figure out what theme for my project I wanted to choose. I started first with Moden Slavery, then I thought Indigenous Rights, but landed with climate change. They all have the need for ethical decisions surrounding what needs to be done to make them right. Climate change is the one topic that not many people focus on or discuss because they think that they are not going to see big changes in their lifetime but what many do not understand it that those changes have already begun. Global warming has been going on for decades, but most do not understand enough to know. I’ll be honest I am one of those but every day I hear and read about more and more on the things that need to change to keep the sky from falling, so to speak. We all have an ethical obligation to do our best to change but if people do not have the morals or positive values to get started the ethical decisions will not follow.  Businesses must do the same when they are developing new production or when updating old production to keep up with demands. Honestly, I could go in so many directions with this, but I will save that for my paper. 
When it comes to one’s values and morals if a person who does not care about the environment and chooses to drive their car every day to work by themselves rather than commute or walk, then that is the absence of values to do the right thing like take the bus with others to cut down on emissions.

The global ethical issue I have chosen is Occupation and Seizure of Land (Sovereignty) and the ethical dilemma that I think be addressed is the betrayal of treaties and acts that gave Native Americans access to an already small portion of land they have been encouraged to live on. For the Lakota nations, their tribal lands have been moved several times as the government would find reasons for their removal such as land development or leaning what rich resources the land had that would benefit Non-natives.   
Morals and values heavily influence decision making with this issue because the people making these decisions are doing so based on the good of the predominately white society. During the time of the Trail or Tears many nations were relocated usually because the land they were living on had potential the US government felt were being wasted because they believed the Natives were savages and had no idea how they could benefit from the land, so they removed them to grow and develop. 

Answer the following question in a short essay of 1000 – 1200 words.  The ideal paper will clearly and accurately state the view of the philosophers in question, and state your own opinion of these views.  
Which ethical theory, if any, do you think is best applied to the medical profession?  Do we want healthcare professionals who are utilitarians or deontologists?  Or are these theories inadequate to the task of guiding medical professionals?
